It's the Giants way.
Less than one percent

Mara is not putting an accountant in charge of football operations

Irony
GeoMan999 : 9/15/2019 6:09 pm : link
There is a good chance Abrams would be very good.

When Gettleman was hired it was widely reported that he would mentor Abrams. They also said that the Giants were going to get Abrams more involved in scouting and personnel decisions to better prepare him for the roles of GM. This would be a classic Giants move that wouldn't surprise anyone.

This is Mara you are talking about. It is almost 100% Abrams with Mara making the choice.
Almost assuredly.

And right now I'm not keen on either.

It would be like having Ernie Arccosi as your tax accountant

Finally, someone has been paying attention. DG isn't going anywhere in the immediate future. But when he retires (he isn't getting fired), Abrams will take over as GM.
If this happens

in 2021 and it depends on Daniel Jones. If Jones replaces Eli and plays well and the needle is pointing up in 2020 (ie- a playoff appearance), I see DG retiring and Abrams takes over.

If Jones bombs out, I think the Giants fully clean house because there will be no more links to the 2007/2011 title team that was built by Accorsi and Wellington remembered.

The front office put their jobs and reputations in the hands of Daniel Jones.

Mara has made so many bad decisions lately he does not deserve any benefit of the doubt.

If the Giants go 3-13 & Jones looks so-so at best, theyll need to look long and hard at Tua/Herbert/Fromm in comparison to Jones.
I'm not a Gettleman guy
AcesUp : 9/15/2019 7:20 pm : link
I've been critical of him in the past and I believe he botched the 2018 offseason. However, he's corrected course in season last year and his decision making has been consistent. Some of those correct decisions meant purging talent so I'm okay with the growing pains.

We should be moving forward with Jones this week though, lean in to what this team is.

it would be the Giants way to promote from within. Who knows, maybe Chris Mara will take the job.
We need another George Young

Absolutely spot on.

And if this happens, absolutely NOTHING will change.
Why?
JFIB : 9/15/2019 9:19 pm : link
Because we're always in such good shape as far as the cap goes? How is it Dallas always signs anyone band everyone without cap problems. The Eagles are as strong a team in the league as there is and they always are in good shape. We sign our players to horrible contracts and over pay out UFA's.

If Jones is so so, they should absolutely pull the trigger on one of those guys. But they wont, because that doesnt promote stability, the giants would rather lose with stability than course correct at the qb position.

Yeah, Abrams is clearly a smart guy but I'm not sure what building financial models has to do with scouting.

Excellent post.
Depends on the success of DG.

If things get worse over he next two seasons, I think the ownership panics and reaches for some nobody. Which could be good. Or bad😐

They are pretty open about the fact that they are grooming him to be GM. Like, teaching him how to scout. Think about that for a second. Imagine training a guy to scout so you can hire him as your GM. That would be like training Sterling Shepard to throw spirals so he can take over for Eli.

That's John Mara for you. Born on 3rd base and thought he hit a triple.
