Do you think Gettleman & Shurmur are on the same schedule?

Sean : 9/15/2019 6:14 pm
I’d imagine Gettleman would get to choose another HC as this was the case for Reese. Obviously, Mara probably has the final say on HC, but I feel Gettleman would have the longer leash.

I’m ready for a defensive minded coach, we haven’t had one since Parcells. This would seem to align more with Gettleman’s philosophy as well.
they both live and die

With jones.
Shurmur better be. But right now I think he's safe.

Doubt anything happens this season.

I agree except there's a lot of season left and losing takes it's toll. I think ownership's plan is for Shurmur to remain through early Jones year(s) but its going to be damn near impossible to retain a coach if this team goes 3-13.
Ownership is the common denominator
Coach Red Beaulieu : 9/15/2019 6:23 pm : link
two wco 70% Eli completion system HCs in a row.

Meanwhile Vrabel was out there, obvious to anyone but Mara and Tisch he is the better HC candidate.
We're Stuck with Shurmur

Shurmur got a five-year deal. He's not going anywhere until at least after the 2021 season.

Disagree. McAdoo went 11-5 and was shown the door. Results matter.

I'm not sure about that. I think if the bottom keeps falling out Shurmur's seat gets a lot warmer. The team looks completely lost.
Either Shurmur will be gone before Gettleman...
M.S. : 9/15/2019 6:36 pm : link

...or they are both shown the door together.

But no way Shurmur outlasts Gettleman.

I think that's the question here - if Shurmur gets it, does Gettleman as well.

And let's be honest - if Gettleman goes, what are the chances they don't just promote Abrams?

I'm afraid that both are safe through the end of 2020-21, and then Abrams would be tagged (with Gettleman retiring).
Smart franchises would dump them both if it got "that bad"
The_Boss : 9/15/2019 6:42 pm : link
The 2019 NYG on the other hand.....
Abrams won’t be promoted if the team is awful..
Sean : 9/15/2019 6:46 pm : link
Not even Mara can justify that.
Dump them both
jeff57 : 9/15/2019 6:49 pm : link
And bring in a GM from the outside.
Yes
BigBlueDownTheShore : 9/15/2019 6:50 pm : link
They have to be.
Not that I need to keep him, but I don’t think Shurmur
ron mexico : 9/15/2019 6:50 pm : link
Has had a chance to succeed.

Gettleman has been a disaster. He only has his Jones lottery ticket left.
Also the one constant through all of this is Chris Mara
ron mexico : 9/15/2019 6:58 pm : link
I have no idea what his responsibilities include, but he is either doing a bad job or no job at all.
Yes

If being shown the door is on the schedule
Its Mara who's fucked up this team, not DG or CS
Ron from Ninerland : 9/15/2019 7:28 pm : link
Its clear that the only reason Eli is still here is because Mara has willed it. Shurmer has made no secret that he wants to move on. Keeping a fading 38 year old QB on a rebuilding team, when his replacement is in house is lunacy. Aside from being stupid just on the basis of player development, its stupid for all the cap money its eating up. Had Eli been cut, the cap savings could have been used to sign a defensive playmaker or two. As it is, they barely have enough to sign street free agents if they need them this season. How can you blame the GM or the coach when their hands are tied ? Also I suspect it was Mara behind the boneheaded moves last year of giving away Apple and Snacks for low draft picks. The speed at which those two were dispatched looks more like a temperamental Mara running them out of town rather than a reasoned DG shopping them around for a better deal.
They should be
Carson53 : 9/15/2019 7:55 pm : link
but with Johnny Mara, who the hell knows?
I think Gettleman gets a longer leash than Shurmur.
I don't think we are stuck with Shurmur - he needs to win
PatersonPlank : 9/15/2019 8:31 pm : link
or at least show progress towards winning. DG gets more leash, probably will live through Shurmurs replacement. If we still suck then that will be the end.
Do you think Gettleman & Shurmur are on the same schedule?
Bill in UT : 9/15/2019 8:32 pm : link
Do you mean do they get their periods on the same day?
Shurmur should get fired at the end of this 2-14 season
larryflower37 : 9/15/2019 8:40 pm : link
Gettleman is on a much longer leash.
Given his track record
LakeGeorgeGiant : 9/15/2019 8:43 pm : link
a 3 win season for Shurmur should be his undoing. It's hard to sell that to a fan base that gets more frustrated by the day.

I think Gettleman will have another chance.

This team was projected to be 6-10. Next year Eli is probably gone. If the GMEN stink next year you can't blame Eli any longer, can you? As a result, would you agree if they stink next year it's the coach AND the GM more than likely AS WELL AS Mara?
The narrative they pushed and with a few key moves they made said
Zeke's Alibi : 9/15/2019 8:47 pm : link
this team is going to be competitive while rebuilding. If you win 3 games with this schedule the seats should be very warm. Don't think they will be but it should.
They should be on the same schedule
AcesUp : 9/15/2019 9:04 pm : link
It's why I felt the GM should have had a strong hand in the coaching hire and they probably should have gone with the QB during that management turnover. It would have been a hard reset where everybody was accountable together. We waited a year on the QB and we should all be encouraged by Jones so far, let this play out. We don't want to be one of those dysfunctional franchises that drafts a kid at QB that changes OC, then fires the HC, then fires the GM, then gives up on the previous regimes personnel moves. Give this time.
The 2017 NYG went 3-13
The_Boss : 9/15/2019 9:40 pm : link
The 2018 NYG went 5-11 after benefitting from playing a few backup QB’s. They, too, were probably a 3 win team. The 2019 NYG smell like another 3-4 win team. How exactly will have we improved over the last 2 years to think DG and the Shurminator deserve another bite at the apple? Unfortunately, they’re both here through the end of 2020. If this team, after another top 10 (probably a top 5) draft and a FA spending spree is 7-9 or worse, my guess (and hope) is they’re both gone.
