NYG Postgame (vs. Bills) Transcripts: CB DeAndre Baker -- September 15, 2019

Q: The defense played better in the second half. What do you attribute that to?
A: We adjusted. We got comfortable in the game and just adjusted. Little adjustments and things that coach told me, I went out and did it in the second half.

Q: How uncomfortable was it for you guys to score so quickly, turn around and the next thing you know it’s 21-7?
A: It was tough, but we were trying to find a way to help us.

Q: What are you learning about the scheme, now that it’s regular season and the speed is a lot quicker?
A: Every team does something, so you have to watch the film and be ready for whatever they do best.

Q: Was there anything in this game that the Bills brought that caught you by surprise?
A: No, they stuck to their game and executed their plan. They made plays, we made plays. They just came out on top. We are just going back to the drawing board and work on the things that we didn’t do well.

Q: Was it tough having Josh Allen out there with his mobility. It seemed like he was all over the place.
A: Not really. I think our D Line did a good job containing him this game. In the back end, we’re holding up. It’s just some small things we have to fix to execute.

Q: What’s your mental approach on facing plays that didn’t go your way, that you have to come out and forget it and move on?
A: You just have to have a short-term memory. It’s always the next play. You forget about the last play. You can’t re-do it, so you just make sure it doesn’t happen again. You learn from it. It’s all about learning.

Q: What has been the biggest adjustment for you from the college game to the pros?
A: I’ll probably say it’s the speed of the game. It’s not a big difference, just a smaller difference.

Q: In terms of what you looked at on film last week and recognizing that it’s a different team this week, what were some things you were building upon last week, that you saw improvement upon, this week?
A: Just our technique on the back game. It was just playing man coverage. We worked on it and worked on it and we played better this week. We just want to keep building.

Q: Are you used to having so many balls coming your way? Is it frustrating for you to assimilate in the first couple weeks?
A: No, I look at it as an opportunity to make a play. If the ball’s coming my way, that’s big for me.

Q: Subconsciously, do you think you place a little too much pressure on yourself to go out there and be perfect. Do you feel like you’re playing as fast as you could be?
A: Right now, I’m not playing as fast as I could be. But that will come with preparation and time and within our room helping each other get the scheme right. It’ll come. I don’t feel like there’s a lot of pressure. I play off a lot of pressure. So the better the pressure, the better I play.

Q: Why do you think there were so many instances of receivers running open? Was it blown assignments? What was the cause of that?
A: I’m not sure right now. But once we get in the film room later on tonight or in the morning, we’ll figure out what happened. But right now, I’m not sure.

Q: One thing Javaris (Jenkins) mentioned is that as cornerbacks, you guys keep cover for 8, 9, 10 seconds. It’s almost impossible for you guys as a defense to get better pressure on the quarterback. Would you agree with that?
A: I’m not sure. But I don’t remember covering for long, but I definitely wouldn’t like to cover for 8 seconds. But I feel like our D Line got some good pressure.

Q: Could you go through that 51-yard pass play? Did you break the wrong way?
A: I’m not sure right now. We have to see if it was a missed assignment in the film room. But I can’t take the fall or blame anybody right now.
Is there anything more useless than a postgame presser?

...but right now he just plain sucks and is one of several reasons why this team stands at 0-2.
I'll be worried

if he still looks lost by the end of the season. I'll accept growing pains right now.

He was out a lot of camp, so he has a lot of ground to make up. If he was that good in college, he'll figure it out.
I knew his injury
