Lawrence was flagged for questionable unnecessary roughness

lcrim : 9/16/2019 1:09 am
This call should be investigated by the league office. It smelled of the officials taking a hand in the outcome. I'm not a bettor, but it surely messed w/ the point spread as well.
I've been a Giants and pro football fan for better than 50 yrs and can only remember a few calls that smelled this bad.
I'm surprised that there isn't more bitching about this.
The game was still up for grabs at this point and then it was settled.

I was saying it during the game

Granted, emotions were running high...but is the same official who called the holding down field away from play on Jenkins? That was a bs call. The "blow to the head" on a fg was bs, and then late in the game an official from the defensive backfield comes running in to throw a flag on Ogletree when 2 others were standing right there, helf their flags, and eventually overruled the call.
yes, this call was total nonsense

did not affect the play but did affect the game. those type of calls should never be made.

it seemed very strange to me
BS call

You could call this on EVERY FG or XP try. You have a center with his head down and a pass rush trying to block a kick applying pressure up the middle. Game changer for sure.
I am not suggesting it wasn’t a questionable call

but go take a look at what Eli and the offense did when they got the ball back down 14 instead of 10. I will save you the trouble...

They ran 6 plays, gained 17 yards and turned the ball back over on 4th down.

The bad call didn’t prevent the Giant offense from doing anything. They do that themselves...
The call was questionable

But, do you really think the Giants would have won the game down 10?
The forward progress non fumble call was worse

If they say it’s not reviewable because of forward progress they should be able to review to confirm the damn whistle blew.

I know we have been helped out immensely by that rule in seasons past but it’s a rule that should be added to review since everything else under the sun is now reviewable.

I miss football from the 80’s, 90’s, and early 2000’s where it didn’t feel like you were getting hosed by the rules at every turn.
No they wouldnt have
Jimmy Googs : 9/16/2019 7:55 am : link
They would have run 6 plays gained 17 yards and turned the ball back over.
Even the CBS hired ex-ref said it was a ticky-tack call....

But bad teams get bad calls (unless you are the Saints).

The bizarre thing is the referee actually said the player (quarterback) was down by contact before shurmur threw the challenge flag. He only said forward progress was stopped afterwards
The league won't get to the Giants

The Saints game is going to occupy all of their time this week (and probably this season).

That'll teach the city to complain and file lawsuits and whatnot.
