35 years since this team drafted a LB in the first round

I see he diagnoses plays correctly and will be in position. But more often then not, he is shoe string tackling, getting dragged for extra yards, gets trucked or outright whiffs. On occasion he makes a tackle in the backfield for a loss. I don't think he is an NFL starting calibur LB, but he can definitely start for our sad LB corp.

The Giants down lineman were 1st, 2nd, and 3rd round picks.

The primary outside linebackers are 2 3rd round picks and 2 UFA from the coordinator's previous team.

Yesterday, the edge rushers had 3 sacks and 6 QB hits.

I'd argue the issue if anything is the inside linebackers and safeties.

One needs to stick with ones choice of the betcher, you hired him and give him the pieces he needs. Giants got their QB, but it was obvious that the ilbs and safeties couldn't do this scheme or contemporary football.

Possibly bench Pepper's and bathea and try the second string players, run without the slower ilbs, use your starting safeties at ilb and your extra corners, ballentine or the depth safeties, at safety.

It's also clear that they are putting the D play aspects in slowly, which could be players slow to learn or positional coaching.

If he had the speed. Also carlock may have been a better fit in this. Where's he at now non facetiously

You need at least 1 lb with safety speed, who can cover, also to have both your safeties with legit free safety skills, to be able to go get the ball in the air and cover also. I'm not even sure Pepper's or bathea could even play ilb given that.

But you could try:

Olb ximines, Carter ilb, Pepper's ilb, golden olb.

That gives you a variable situation as to who is the extra pass rushers with Carter doing both. But I'm not sold that Pepper's can cover a TE.

Also, assign Carter to push the TE back at snap and make it a 10 on 10 game.

We had a prime opportunity to grab and excellent piece for our defense in Josh Allen and decided to go with Jones, and I don't have an issue with drafting Jones. The problem seems to be that not only did we pass on Allen but supposedly made an attempt to trade with Detroit to get Allen only for Jacksonville to pounce on him with the 7th pick.

So, instead of moving up to draft Bryan Burns who is an excellent edge rusher and selected by Carolina with pick 16, we stay at 17 and draft Dexter Lawrence who is a very good DL but not the Pass Rusher we really need.

Then we move back into the end of the 1st round to draft Baker who we are not using properly.
