This article in The Ringer points out the “new” offense of the Chiefs, Ravens, Seahawks and others as speed, quick reads, mobile QB’s lead the way.
Worries me that DG (unclear about Shurmur) still talks about focusing on the running game, hog mollies, and pushing Eli out there.
Luckily if the Giants hire a forward-thinking GM they would have a couple of assets to start with in terms of Barkley and Jones (jury is out but we know he can run) however they need a ton more.
In reaction, teams are going to need to build fleet defenses with quick edge rushers, fast LB’s who can cover, and a number of CB’s so the top 2 or 3 don’t get warn down.
Now, I know this is an article about fantasy football but this type of O is showing up in the win column too.

Shurmur's career winning percentage dropped to .294. That's seventh-worst in NFL history among coaches with at least 50 games.
PhilSimms; can you point out how many teams have won a Super Bowl that could not "run the ball, stop the run, get after the passer" I can't really think of many if at all. Playoff football seems to expose teams that are built on mirrors.
Maybe some of these young guys can play. If this coaching staff and front office are blown out quickly enough maybe they won't all be wasted picks.
But if Gettleman gets 2 more years with these coaches the Giants will literally be the worst team in the NFL. They are headed in that direction and are not far from there now. Maybe that's what it will take for the Mara brothers to step back and hire some young progressive people to run the team. But I won't hold my breath.
Welcome back to the Wellington years. Some of us have seen this coming for a while.

Yet Ballentine,Davis & Love don't see a single snap on defense yesterday! Tough to get experience w/o playing!
And I agree New England continues to be an anomaly but they have arguably the best QB and the best head coach ever.
2: The teams reference KC, Seattle and Baltimore all have very good running games and at some point in time, have invested in that position (Seattle 1st round pick, Baltimore paid Ingram, KC multiple picks at the position + signing McCoy)

Pushing hard for the immortal Steve Spagnuolo and his lifetime .212 winning percentage as a HC.
No.. Pats have a QB who moves great within the pocket.. has great pocket presence.. has great touch on his short-medium range passes.. hits WR in strides and doesn't get the ball tipped nearly as often as our QB.. He has also in the past few years performed with and without a functional OL (The season Broncos won the SB).. without a functional pass catching outside WR and Gronk (last year).. He has never had as good a running back as the Giants have now..
This idea that we won't be any better if we had Brady instead of Eli is ridiculous..
+1
Had a conversation with my brother earlier this morning about the Giants O and the lack of mobility at the position. We discussed Brady and Rivers being similar pocket passers in a league trending towards more mobility. I asked him if he thought Phillip Rivers was more mobile or is it the offensive scheme?

with an immobile QB, a defense predicated on stopping the run and fundamentals, and a running game that ramps up when the weather gets cold.

That's not my argument at all.
Brady is one of the best QBs of all time and they run much like they do pass opportunistically.
You can't ignore the fact that they have Brady there when you point out that they were more of a running team in the playoffs last year. Much easier to run with that big of a pass threat on your team.
