I’m going glass half full here

Fish : 9/16/2019 10:11 am
My thoughts are the giants cleaned house last few seasons (Odell, Collins, snacks, Vernon etc) and we have a ton of young players on roster that will either improve with good coaching or suck. Baker, hill, Lawrence, D Jones and Barkley etc. We are brutally awful now BUT Gettleman has to have a plan knowing all this and was hoping to mask it with at least .500 play. The .500 play ain’t happening therefore the bullseye is on GM and coach.
Assume we get top 5 pick next year we draft more talent and sign a few free agents to fit then the rebuild can happen earlier than it looks now.
Thoughts?
I'm with you

I think for some teams that have drafted bad like the Giants....its going to take a little longer to get it turned around than anticipated. You can't tell me that the Giants can't win the next 3 games and all of the sudden are 3-2. 8-8 would be a successful year this year.

Reasons to hopefully optimistic.

1) Daniel Jones - should be our QB for a long time
2) the o-line is very solid and should only get better this season as long as there are no major injuries.
3) Saquon Barkley - he's obviously a stud.
4) Special Teams are solid
5) As you mentioned above....the young players on defense should improve dramatically.
2 and 5 are not givens

They are hopes. It’s just as possible that Gettleman brought in a bunch of JAGs to replace the JAGs we had

is the OL not light years better? 4 of them are younger than 30, Remmers is the oldest at 30. It's not like any of them are ancient. The defense being younger, the OL being better, and the potential of a Saquon/Jones combo being reasons for excitement are facts.

"Younger" and "exciting" don't win games by themselves obviously, so ultimately Gettleman will sink or swim by whether the younger defense is actually a better defense and whether Saquon and Jones can be more than exciting and actually win games. The rest is window dressing, though the coaching staff isn't doing the windows any favors.
LOL at this thread

Other than Saquon none of these guys have shown they’re studs. Reality is that this team is terrible, has been terrible, and there is absolutely no reason to give anyone in the organization the benefit of the doubt that they know what they’re doing.
Lawrence
GiantEgo : 9/16/2019 10:29 am : link
The atrocious secondary has allowed him to fly under the radar but the guy does not look good at all. He was being easily blocked by a single lineman the entire game and was frequently pushed backwards. He seems to have little in the way of motor and looked gassed by the late first quarter.
It makes for a fun madden franchise rebuild

(:
This is for all intents and purposes

An expansion team- a few vets past their prime, a bunch of rookies and udfa

Yes, the oline is better. Unfortunately, the receiving corp and the entire defense have been deconstructed and are far below league average. The team still stinks.

The OL so far has been better than anything we've put out there the last what 5 years?

He brought in a lot of high picks. They're young. Very young. Of course it's going to look bad. Age in parenthesis.

Baker (22), Ballantine (23), Lawrence (21), Ximines (22) & Connelly (23) are all 1st year players.

BJ Hill (24), Zo Carter (23), Grant Haley (23) & RJ McIntosh (23) are 2nd year players.

Jabrill (23) & Tomlinson (25) are 3rd year players.

Then you have Olsen Pierre, Antoine Bethea & Markus Golden are brand new to the team. Idk why anybody thought we'd be good this year. It's almost impossible when you are playing so many young/new players.

Agreed. Baker and Lawrence look putrid.

Has Tomlinson has been here long enough to say he’s basically a JAG?
You can’t judge the rookies

At this point on a bad team. The Giants in early 80s were bad until Carson then LT showed up. What if next years draft gives us the solid LB?

That’s a sad list to hang your hopes on.
OK
mdthedream : 9/16/2019 10:46 am : link
on the bright side we do have a lot of money to spend next year. I think the OLine is a lot better. I think if we would put Jones in the offense will be a lot better. Defense is where the Giants need to spend some money on. We need passrush a real Linebacker or two.
Summary
Fish : 9/16/2019 10:57 am : link
I love Gettlemen, start Jones, fire Betcher, OL is solid. Draft WR, DE or LB with first pick. Fix LB like you fixed OL. One receiver, two LB, two rushers and a cover corner and we are back in business.I like Jones
I had a similar thought yesterday

Haha
If the O-Line is so much better
RollBlue : 9/16/2019 11:59 am : link
why isn't Barkley rushing for 150 plus every game, how come Eli isn't tearing it up. I think the O-Line is improved, but not dramatically. You also need a good QB.
I think Eli

Is skittish from getting beat up years prior. He doesn’t trust the pocket anymore.
