Thoughts on Eli and the Team

Pete44 : 9/16/2019 10:23 am
I don't really post much about the Giants, but I have been on this site for 20 years and I'm just truly frustrated with this team and the organization.

While, there is no doubt that Eli Manning's play has regressed for the last several years and he still makes rookie mistakes. (Aikman - made a great point in last week's game.) The issues with the team are not on him. It is on ownership.

When they fired Reese a few years ago, they needed to completely clean house and get a fresh view for this organization. Instead, they took the easy way out, with going with a familiar face and probably the only coach/GM combo willing to keep Eli as the starter.

While Gettleman, might have had a few good drafts since taking over, (this draft is still highly questionable, because we don't know about Jones yet) this team is probably 2nd least talented team in the league with the worst units in the league at multiple positions and that is on the those building the team.

It is almost sad to watch this team right now.

I know I will probably get killed by some on this site, but I just don't think the issues of this organization can be sugar coated any longer. They consistently take the easy way out on hires, when a clean/fresh view of this organization is needed from top to bottom.
Giants = Blackberry

Reese and McAdoo were right about Eli

two and a half years ago - they got fired for it. Sticking with Eli instead of moving on two years ago has cost this team time in the rebuilding process. Trading OBJ was a big mistake also.
Let's be serious here

Eli can not score from inside the 30. He is a 30 yard line to 30 yard line qb. That is it.

The Defense is young (and Bettchers blitzes absolutely suck) so the O needs to score.

Look at several Dallas possessions and 3 yesterday. The 3 yesterday, PR, he throws his 5th batted ball at the line, into an insane INT. But we all knew the second TJ jones was tackled, we were not scoring.

2 other possessions should have been points. The simple move here is we have a good OL. Play Jones and feed Barkley, ala Big Ben 2004. Eli for a farewell tour is just beyond stupid.

Eli knows this as well, he is now 116-116, he should have retired with a winning record. Now he'll go out after 0-4, 0-6, etc.

Gettleman is cleaning house. The problem is we want a fast turnaround and we are doing things the right way. Get out of Cap Hell, young talent. This is year 2. Won't see druits of labor until year 3
Pete, I completely agree!

You won't get killed by me.

I don't see the Giants beating anyone this year. To be completely toyed with by Dallas & Buffalo? Where are the wins coming from? Miami...Maybe....Tampa? Washington? Jets?

It is an embarrassment for a New York market team to continually have the fans leave the stadium early, not go at all and when they do go; Boo or just sit there in apathy.

The NY teams have some of the worst owners in sports!

he is cleaning house but put the kid in so we can see what we have. Him sitting on the bench is a waste of time.

The mistake that was made with Eli's benching was starting Geno Smith. Had they started Webb, even if he got completely annihilated, the backlash wouldn't have been like it was and we're probably not watching Eli this year, at least in a Giant's uniform

...please post more often. Your view is 100% dead-on.

My only quibble is with this statement of yours: "It is almost sad to watch this team right now."

It's not "almost." It's just plain "sad!"

Phewwww, glad to get that off my chest.
I think our performance is realistic

While I agree that Eli's best years are 3 seasons removed I think its unfair to give so much criticism to Coaching Staff and Gettleman. This team had to be burned down and rebuilt. There was just nothing there to work with. I also think that trading Beckham was a bad idea, actually terrible lol. Remember Shurmur wasn't his original pick, nobody wanted to come here!!I'm still not sold on Jones, time will tell. Hopefully we can get a couple of young FA next season and keep building within the draft. We are about another 2 - 3 years away from being contenders on Sunday. I think that's why Barkley isn't being worked to death! Just my thoughts anyways...

NO, trading OBJ was absolutely needed!
Eli is playing.....
Tom [Giants fan] : 9/16/2019 12:07 pm : link
without his top two receivers. The Bills did not take the threat of the passing game seriously and focused on shutting down Barkley. Tate and Sheppard's returns should make the offense more versatile. Trying to put Eli on the bench and sending DJ in right now may be more detrimental to his development.

I am more concerned that the defense had the Bills' offense pinned at their own 2 yard line, the crowd is chanting defense, and the whole defense is standing around with their hands on their hips showing no emotions.

This is basically where I stand.

I like what Gettleman is doing, but I'm doubtful about pretty much everyone else in this organization from Mara to Shurmur and Bettcher.

The Giants were, once again, down 21-7 in the first half so what is Eli with zero real receivers supposed to do with that? It never ceases to amaze me that people just want to crap on Eli when he's not even close to our main problem. Has he regressed? Sure. Will Jones make it better? NO.

This defense is hot garbage. It couldn't hold a lead last year, and it can't keep teams from moving long fields at will this season.
3+ years to build a team is too long
Rudy5757 : 9/16/2019 12:22 pm : link
this day and age. Gettleman better have this team playoff ready next season but until we start Jones and start to get him ready we are running in place. every game we waste on Eli is valuable game esperience we are losing.

the D needs a star to build around. I dont think that guy is on the team yet. it better be in FA or the draft next year. no one has to gameplan against us, its a team of average to below average on D.
How can you say this team hasn't cleaned house?
justafan : 9/16/2019 12:26 pm : link
The team is drastically different even from their last playoff appearance. Few of JRs free agents remain. There are only a few of his draft picks hanging around.

I don’t think anyone is asking for a fast turnaround. We’re asking for signs of progress. It’s year two and right now it’s look like they’ve gone backwards.
Please stop with the be has no receivers nonsense

Stop making excuses for bad play.

They just look worse than ever to me, especially defensively.
