Saints' QB Drew Brees is expected to undergo thumb surgery as early as today that would be expected to sideline him approximately 6 weeks, per leagues sources.

And Eli is on his last legs.

The QB gods are culling the herd
If the Giants end up with a top 5 pick

They could be in a great position to trade down for a bounty. With Brees and Roethlisberger being out both those teams will suffer and will more than likely look to draft a QB in round 1 in 2020. If Chase Young was available at their pick I wouldn't trade down. It would also have to be a great package in order to pass on Jerry Jeudy, Andrew Thomas, and Grant Delpit.

The Dolphins are a lock for the first pick and Tua is the likely target. That leaves Fromm, Herbert, Eason, etc to the other QB needy teams. The Bengals and Raiders are more than likely to draft a QB also. It's also possible that the Titans, Falcons, Panthers, Bucs, Broncos, and Chargers will look to draft a QB also.
Something to watch for with Brees

there were whispers this offseason that he was starting to lose it a bit and age was finally getting to him. He's never had a super strong arm, but he was always able to put the ball where he wanted. This is not going to help in that regard.

There were rumors forever that Jerruh has not extended Garrett because he was waiting to see if Payton shakes loose. But if Dallas goes on to do a few things, and the Saints crash and burn...would the Giants considering bringing Payton back with Jones and Saquon....

I've felt that Shurmur was always like an executive that a failing organization brings in to steady the ship and keep the lights on as they sell off assets and is sent on his way once the business transformation is completed and hand off to a new leader.

Call Eli

because of one bad season where the QB gets hurt.
He is locked up through 2024.The only way he shakes loose is if he forces his own way out.

I was thinking about Payton yesterday until I saw that he just signed a 5 year extension with the Saints. At least it will keep him away from Dallas.

Well...shit.
A few coaches that I find intriguing for the Giants
Jay on the Island : 9/16/2019 11:16 am : link
Eric Bieniemy OC Chiefs
David HC Shaw Stanford
Lincoln Riley HC Oklahoma
Dan Campbell TE Coach Saints
Matt Eberflus DC Colts
Matt Rhule HC Baylor

If the Giants do fire Shurmur I expect the Giants to show a lot of interest in Rhule. They love to hire guys they know and Rhule once coached as an assistant with the Giants. I would target an offensive coach because of Daniel Jones.
Riley isn't going anywhere, but I'd sign up for Shaw or Rhule
Zeke's Alibi : 9/16/2019 11:22 am : link
in two seconds if they wanted it. Shaw probably not, heard he wants to stay west coast, but i think Rhule would jump at it.
Shaw and Riley are
Dankbeerman : 9/16/2019 11:26 am : link
longshots to ever come to the NFL. Would think they would pick a better situation to come into.

Not sure and Offensive genuis is needed with Barkley you can make any schemme work. Get a Good young former QB to run the offense and get me tough nasty old school defensive coach

Rhule was reportedly high on the Jets list. Not that that means anything but I think he would be ecstatic to receive the Giants job. He is a very promising young coach. I doubt Shaw leaves Stanford but I would at least try to gauge his interest.

I like Eric Bieniemy alot. Take a look at Andy Reid's previous two OC's Doug Pederson and Matt Nagy. Both of them are excellent HC's and I think Eric Bieniemy can be one also.

I would add Jim Harbaugh to the list but there is no way that ownership would ever consider him.

and the 12 Apostles as coordinators and it won't matter until the front office gets fixed, the scouts who are writing reports on these players are changed out, we get someone who can find a player past the second round and an UDFA, and Jawn and his relations get boots in their asses out of the front office and player personnel.

Dan Campbell once played for the Giants, so he has ties too.

Yeah, another brilliant post. Scouting is pretty good now that Reese and Ross are gone. DGs has picked some pretty damn good football players last two years even later in the draft.
