That team was horrendous. 1-15. I think Aikman got sacked 11 times by Philly in a game that year. I thought Aikman might get killed in that game.
Following that disaster:
1990: 7-9
1991: 11-5, made the playoffs
1992: 13-3, won the Superbowl
They also made the playoffs 6 of the subsequent 7 years winning 2 more Superbowls.
We have our "Aikman" sitting behind our version (granted with more past success) of Danny White.
The Giants played this all wrong for some reason. Why do we purge some attitude but keep VETs that have no longer place here. Eli alone should have been jettisoned, just to give Jones the reigns now. Our pickups (Tate for one obvious example) were designed around winning now which we are not going to do.
Honestly, stick meet dead horse, Jones has to start! NOthing is gained by playing Eli.
The team was atrocious, the veteran coach was "dead man walking", and the season ended with a 1-11 run in which the lone victory was a 9-6 sh!tshow against the Jets. But the Rams had some young talent on defense, along with their rookie "QB of the Future" and a young stud running back in his second season. Kinda like the 2019 Giants. So there's that.
On the other hand, most bad teams stay bad. There's no real silver lining to being as awful as the Giants have been since mid-2012.
People talk about Aikman-Smith-Irvin but that defense was pretty damn good too.
I was there on Monday night in 95, when the Giants looked like a cupcake team.
[/quote]At this point, more like our version of Steve Pelluer. Danny White was pretty good. Staubach was an impossible act to follow in any case, and Cowboy fans - being the spoiled little sh!ts that they are - mostly remember White for losing his last three playoff games. (He was 6-2 in the post-season before that, including a dramatic comeback against the Falcons in relief of RS.)
Also take a deep breath its only two games .
Guessing that it's more likely that we have a Steve Walsh than an Aikman, but that's just me.
We can hope
Maryland and Smith they would have drafted with their own picks.
Flowers was a 3rd rounder.
Jimmy Smith was great elsewhere. Harper was a 1st rounder.
etc...
Let's see what happens.
Err...Williams
