Taco Charlton asks for his release from Big D

DanMetroMan : 9/16/2019 2:55 pm
The team would still like to acquire some sort of value for Charlton, but an outright release is not out of the question. Doing so now would hit the salary cap for merely $450,000 in dead money -- an inconsequential number when considering they have nearly $24 million in cap space. Unfortunately for Charlton, escalating from a trade request to demanding his release doesn't give him any more power than he had in the first place, which is none.

He's under contract through the 2020 season and although his stint with the Cowboys likely won't last that long, it's up to the Joneses to determine when and how they'll cut him loose. Until then, all he can do is wait ...on the inactive list.

Charlton has four sacks in two seasons, with three of them coming in his rookie year.

Have you SEEN the Giants defense? He's probably a bust but the Giants should churn through EVERY "bust" recent high pick in what looks like a total disaster of a season.
They're one of the best teams in the NFL and have $24 million in cap

And we're one of the worst and have none.

Unfucking real. This team and this organization are one huge dumpster fire.

Yeah, that was my takeaway too, they currently have $24M in cap space!
He's been a bust

but if released the Giants should take a shot at him. The pass rush is a joke still and he was a recent 1st round pick. At this point they should taking chances anyway.

We play a 3-4. Just where does he play. I don't mean to sound like I've got all the answers but he seems like a bad fit. 6'6" 275. I guess teams have turned guys like him into OLBs but he seems like a guy who a 4-3 team would be interested in and visa versa.

It's called a 4th round quarterback still on his rookie contract. Their cap situation will change significantly once he gets a new contract. Same as it did with seattle
We only play a 3 - 4 on 1st down

On 2nd and long and 3rd we go to a 4 man front. He would be in the rotation! He is on the market because he has been a flop!

It's not just that - they're not pissing away money on garbage. A few million for Stewart and Omameh, $10M for Ogletree. Like the old saying goes, a million here and a million there, pretty soon you're talking about big money.
Oh come on.
Brown Recluse : 9/16/2019 3:58 pm : link
Omameh and Stewart aren't breaking the bank. FFS. Next offseason they're going to have at least $60m+.

Let's see how their cap situation is after they re-sign Dak Prescott for over 34 million a year and with Amari Cooper and Byron Jones becoming FA's at season's end.

Dallas limited the cap numbers this season for Zeke, La'El Collins, Jaylon Smith, and Demarcus Lawrence. Prescott only has a 2.12 million dollar cap hit this season as well. Next year those players cap numbers increase by the following:

Zeke $6.339 million to $10.9 million
Collins $4.224 million to $8.950 million
Jaylon Smith $2.69 million to $7.7 million
Lawrence $11.1 million to $21.9 million

That's a difference of over 25 million from this year. Dallas will have some tough decisions to make shortly but they have a great 2 year window to go for it. I think we will see the old Jerry surface starting next year where he will begin to mortgage the future to win now with multiple restructures.

They aren't, but the amount they spent on Kareem Martin, Stewart, Bethea and Omameh they could have brought in good quality talent.

We have been hearing this for years and guess what, Dallas has never been in cap hell. They resign who they want to resign.

No, but keep adding the dead weight that Gettleman brought in.

And that's excluding Eli, and not mentioning how he grossly overpaid for Solder. FFS, that's WHY this team is shit - because it overpays bad players, regardless of what the individual sums are.

Oh really? What talent?

Already made a determination on Bethea after two games? Why am I not surprised. Every GM has more than a few bad deals on their resume. There are plenty of things to complain about with this team, but picking at signings that really didn't hamstring their cap space is ridiculous, especially when the Giants cap space is about to open up next offseason.

Gettleman didnt pay Eli. He inherited that contract and is probably forbidden by Mara from trashing it.

Solder is overpaid but he's been playing just fine and what was the alternative?

The team isn't shit because they've been splurging on shitty players. Its shit because they're digging themselves out of a hole of shit players by the previous GM and their coaches are potentially shit at coaching.
But there is a very clear difference on this roster right now with youth and drafted (and undrafted) players contributing vs what was here before with overpriced veterans and lackluster talent from the draft.

I'm thinking that about 80% of the difference between the Giants' cap situation and the Cowboys' cap situation is that their QB is on a cheap rookie contract and our QB is an 18-year veteran making $20+ million a year. That and OBJ pretty much covers it. That doesn't mean the difference isn't real, but I don't think it's something to get worked up about.
We should sign him tomorrow
