Shurmur is so reactionary and spineless to everything Mike says. Watch, they'll all be playing press this week. And Shurmur will point it out in the press conference like he made sure everyone knew Saquon got alot of touches, even with the score the way it was.
Rather than later. Listening to Shurmur makes me think Eli is going to the bench.
If in fact Eli is benched after a game in which he played without his top four receivers that would be a shame. Not saying its not time but Eli just seems to be dealt a shit hand at every turn.

Its not about Eli. Its about the future. Eli is not part of that. Time for Jones NOW.

C’mon with this. Dealt a shit hand? First, he could have retired. Second, he’s made a half a billion dollars playing in NY. Last year it’s the O-Line, then it’s the defense, now it’s without WRs. It’s not all Eli’s fault, but that doesn’t matter at this point. He also understands this business and I suspect doesn’t expect any pity for the hand he’s been dealt.

OMG give me a fucking break
Every time he does these interviews he comes off worse. Â
it's hard to believe. It very rare for it to be this easy against any team in the NFL. Most of you are probably too young to remember the 10/24/83 20-20 tie against the Cardinals. That's the worst football I've ever seen. I wonder if 12/15/19 against Miami will top it. Brian Daboll went 3-for-3 in attacking Giants' weaknesses - ( New Window )

But, that 83 team was coached by Parcells. I am not ready to throw in the towel on PS but he does need some help. Betcher is not that help!
When does the replay/on demand of this interview get posted? Â

Like Phil Simms said, "The NFL sh*ts on everyone no matter who you are".
There are very few players who go out on their own terms.
instead of prodding information about the biggest story in NY sports (the replacement of Eli Manning) he decided his time was better beating up Shurmur because his team stinks. That might be what his audience wants, which is fine, but I am not giving him credit for anything. It was a giant, no pun intended, waste of time.
Clearly the ownership is incompetent. They cited a target of 70% passing completiong AGAIN and hired another wco HC. Incompetent orgs and their metric based goals, someone in the org has Mara and/or Tisch's ear with the analaytics bullcrap.

Dude, he's not closing.
You need an GlenGary refresher.
And Eli needs to sit.

25 million to start two fucking games, i really hope - if hope is the right word- that the directive came from mara, and that gettleman knew better but went along to placate mara. right now it's preferable to believe that gettleman is reasonably competent at what he does, and that he's been held back by a sentimental, meddling owner in addition to walking into a grim situation (this is the worst i recall the team looking since i've been old enough to pay attention in the mid 80s).
i've read here from credible posters that shurmur was not their first choice as HC and that either others turned them down or mara intervened to push shurmur, since giants are known for this.
plenty of gettlemans personnel decisions have flopped so far (omameh, stewart, lauletta, kennard, etc), but theres been a talent infusion at OL and RB. unfortunately seemingly every other position on the team has gotten worse, and combined with a coach who was not the first choice, and it's no surprise things haven't started to turn around quicker.
should've pulled the plug on eli and blown it all up after 2017, but it is what it is at this point. sad that barkley's prime years will be wasted with shurmur.

If your scenario is correct, this would be perhaps the third 3rd time Gettleman made a decision to placate Mara.
At that point, I have to wonder if he is nothing more than a seat warmer who is just happy to be collecting a salary.
His comments on the defense are legit, the rest of the time should be about QB of the future. What the next 14 games look like for DJ if he's playing...what a successful year now that we're 0-2.
What do people expect him to say. I give him credit for keeping his composure in the face of those questions.
Not a Shumur fan at all, but these interviews are so stupid. Yeah, he is going to say "we stink, we are not getting better, don't show up anymore." If you are going to interview and try to probe the mindset and decision making then they can be interesting (depending on the coach), but if you just want to humiliate someone, it is rather easy to do to unsuccessful coaches. But, at the same time, it does not take great skills to do that other than a big mouth.
I'd bet my mortgage the Giants will never finish above .500 in any season during which Shurmur is the head coach.
Between him and Gettleman this team is fucking lost. Utterly and completely lost.
Good to see you back. I know you're on the record about your feelings on Shurmur but I'm surprised to hear you say that about Gettlemen. It seemed like you were a big fan of his bigger moves this offseason (letting Collins walk, drafting DJ, trading Beckham, etc.). What changed? Starting and keeping Eli?
is in desperate need of media training. Lots of clumsy answers to questions over the years. Holmgren was right about him, very smart but lacking a bit in how he projects himself in public
Shurmur is so reactionary and spineless to everything Mike says. Watch, they'll all be playing press this week. And Shurmur will point it out in the press conference like he made sure everyone knew Saquon got alot of touches, even with the score the way it was.
This is one of the major reasons I hate the guy as the coach. I said it to my brother during the game that Shurmur being the petty prick that he is will give Saquon the touches in this weeks game just so he can call out in the presser that he did what the media asked for last week and it got no results. Of course as we were leaving the game within the first freaking sentence of his presser he needs to point out that Saquon got his touches and they lost the game. I lost it with him and feeling like he had the right personality as a coach during last years post game presser when he basically shat all over Lauletta as a player killing any value of his just so he can throw it in the media's face that he knows better than them in keeping Lauletta inactive. A coach of his career record has no ground to stand on to be that petty.
25 million to start two fucking games, i really hope - if hope is the right word- that the directive came from mara, and that gettleman knew better but went along to placate mara.
I doubt this was the conversation:
DG: Line is fixed. Old Eli in 2019!
Mara: Are you sure? He looks done...
DG: Positive - Eli will be good as new. Clubhouse fixed.
Mara: O...K... If you're sure.
in your assessment of this interview. This was filled with Mike's self stroking and interrupting PS. I am not impressed with this interview at all.
How can you can you call this an interview?? This is mike not letting explanations happen, they are just let me put you on the spot and then bash a little more.
You can do exactly what Mike was doing by asking questions, not making YOUR opinion statements in a veiled question that you follow up with (while PS tries to answer) with more shots...
I didn't hear anything from Pat Shurmur that was negative or a sign he is incapable. These interviews, if any of you find them a sign of his coaching ability, is akin to Mara listening to the fans opinions before making decisions..
"You're not good at anything also amazing."
Also, its clear that he thinks DJ gives them better chance to win.
Let Pat answer the question you just asked!!!!

Should have never got the job

When you hear him communicate some of these answers and in general, you have to wonder how exactly he has gotten two head coaching jobs.

NFL legacy hire - his uncle was a long time DC and HC.

All we heard about how the offense was better without Odell and Eli would thrive being able to spread it around.

That was the worst part.
He was basically given an open question that said, "sell yourself."
He could not do it. How he could not was odd and it speaks to his own abilities to lead.
He will scapegoat his DC after this year. And when next year goes south, he will get his pink slip.
