With all the QBs getting hurt (Foles, Brees, Big Ben, etc), and gone for extended periods of time, might it be time for the Giants to try and get something of value for an Eli trade ? Assuming of course that Danny Dimes gets to start, looks good, and really seems to be the QB of the future.
What is the highest pick you think we could get for Eli ?
If we were to get anything in return for him, it would be a token gesture.
That doesn't mean SHIT if he agrees... If he has a shot at a SB- say a contender loses their QB for the year, you think he wouldn't consider it???
2. No trade value
Not saying it will happen. Just correcting the math. The acquiring team would only be liable for his remaining salary.
Quote:
cap room to absorb his 23M cap number. What contender is gonna be able to do that and remain a contender?
Not even close. The number is a little ove $10MM, and it drops by about $700K each week.

this is where I got the cap number - ( New Window )

Don’t think we could absorb the hit if trading or releasing him unless they can push it to next year but with taking all the hits this year dead cap wise to be rid of them that would be kinda stupid
I see no chance of him saying yes to a trade now. Back in April? Maybe, maybe not.

The cap hit is already factored into this year's cap. There is no future hit to absorb. BBB is correct that the new team only has to pay Eli's salary which is reduced by his weekly check of about $719K/wk. So far we have paid $1.4M, so there is $10.1M remaining. After TB, then $9.4M and so on. Each week that we pay is less that the other team pays. Heisenberg is wrong.

Not in a trade but if the Giants were to release Eli he could go to the Saints where he would have a great supporting cast. Their offense is built for a pocket passer anyway.
New Orleans has $2.6 Million in cap space. Eli's remaining cap hit is $10.14 Million. Why does this trade make sense to you? For a team whose QB will be back in six weeks and they invested in Bridgewater?
Teddy sucks. Did you watch yesterday? After this week, the salary remaining is $9.4M. A team can make room if it wants to.
Giants compensation will be seeing what they have in Jones

We get no cap savings if he is released. As a vested veteran, he can claim his salary as termination pay. We would take the full $23M cap hit. If he is traded even for a 7th, then we will save the remaining salary on our cap.
