This seems like a strange move, especially he's the fifth TE on the roster.

But, this is a strange move. We only have 2 RBs on the roster and already had 4 TEs, most of whom can't block. This TE can't block either and needs a lot of coaching for development, which is not a strength of this organization right now.

Yeah, the strange part isn't releasing Perkins, it's signing Smith.
Kaden Smith is an intriguing TE prospect, but projects as a player that will need added developmental time before any expectations should be placed on him. Smith is pretty lethargic at the top of his stems and won't inspire as a man beater in routes. Pretty specific skill set for immediate role, wins up seam vs. zone and as a sit-down target vs. soft zone. Smith has skills and promise but shouldn't be tasked to play a large percentage of snaps until he fleshes out his game. Link - ( New Window )

They probably will, but they may wait until we get one or two of our receivers back. They're probably planning to run lots of two te sets until then. Also, Dickerson has been out. After some of those guys return, we'll probably cut someone - maybe Smith.

I think you're mistaken (no offense). It's that players signed off of other teams' practice squads must be kept on the roster for at least 3 weeks. Tomlinson was signed as a FA. He can be cut anytime.

I don't think he has enough time for that to be the case, I believe you need at least 3 years in NFL.

Good. This is what you need to do if you want to find players- shift through lots of chaff. Our TE's suck outside of Engram who is more of a tweener than a TE.

I am just a fan but I think Perkins showed a lot more than Gallman. Then there is the fact that we’d have roster spots to keep him if not for our third QB.
I’m not a fan of Tomlinson at all. I hope he’s released today as I would rather promote CJ Conrad to the active roster than keep the one dimensional Tomlinson.
