More than I’d pay

Congrats Pittsburgh
That could be a top 10 pick
Rjanyg : 9/16/2019 10:12 pm : link
Crazy
What a stupid trade
Vanzetti : 9/16/2019 10:12 pm : link
With Ben out. They could easily be picking top ten
Terrible trade by Pittsburgh
illmatic : 9/16/2019 10:13 pm : link
That could be a fairly high pick. Wtf are they doing.
Wow..
darren in pdx : 9/16/2019 10:14 pm : link
weird trade to make with the timing, they must be confident in Ben coming back next year or like Rudolph that much.
really puzzling
bluepepper : 9/16/2019 10:14 pm : link
0-2. Ben down. And they trade their first rounder?
Questioning the Steelers on personal decision is rarely a wise move
Zeke's Alibi : 9/16/2019 10:15 pm : link
they generally churn out one of the more talented rosters in the NFL.
Wow.
justafan : 9/16/2019 10:15 pm : link
Miami is gonna be loaded with draft picks.
Strange
AcidTest : 9/16/2019 10:16 pm : link
move with Ben out, unless they really believe in Rudolph. As others have noted, that could easily be a top 10 pick.

Agree, awful trade. Though the Dolphins are doing everything humanly possible to cement their status as the worst, get the number 1 pick and more. Has their ever been a better tank job
Dolphins are hysterical
Jersey Heel : 9/16/2019 10:17 pm : link
I can see trading away older players who won’t be around for the rebuild, but Fitzpatrick and Tunsil are young players they could build around. They’re getting picks, but creating new holes to fill with those picks. They better hope they hit on every single one. Sheesh.
Miami doing a great rebuild IMO
NoGainDayne : 9/16/2019 10:17 pm : link
the way the cap works the absolute best thing you can do is have as much premium talent on a rookie deal as possible and supplement holes with FA
Incredibly dumb trade by the Steelers
Sean : 9/16/2019 10:17 pm : link
Wow!
horrible
Mr. Nickels : 9/16/2019 10:18 pm : link
pitt couldve landed a qb
Wow
ghost718 : 9/16/2019 10:19 pm : link
Type of move that could definitely get you fired, even in Pittsburgh
The Steelers must really believe in Rudolph
Zeke's Alibi : 9/16/2019 10:20 pm : link
I think he's looked good in the preseason. Maybe this is the last of Big Ben.

Fitzpatrick had been playing out of position and has not been happy...

I think you are onto something here. This could signal that they believe Rudolph is further along that many think and the Steelers will rally around him.

Kevin Colbert is absolutely no dummy.

I applaud their tenacity to suck and accumulate assets. If Minkah yields a top 10 pick, that works. Trading tunsil though, even though the return was great, still might not have been the right move as he was an LT on the rise and having for their next qb would be bital
Not a very smart trade,
prdave73 : 9/16/2019 10:24 pm : link
But give them respect for making a move.. man if the Giants don’t make a move for Ramsey and some other team acquires him... idk..

haha are you joking? nothing this current regime has done since they've gotten here would indicate a first round trade for a dbag corner
The
AcidTest : 9/16/2019 10:33 pm : link
problem I have with the trade from Pittsburgh's point of view is that even if they think Rudolph will succeed Ben, why trade what will likely be a top 10 pick? Even if you don't want a QB, you could trade that pick for a huge ransom to a team that does.

is Goodell next April after being roundly and deservedly booed while opening the draft:

"The 2020 Miami Dolphins, I mean, NFL draft, is now underway."

not as bad as everyone's making it out to be. Minkah is a stud and they got him for 4 years, their first rounder could bust
Ummmmmm...
shockeyisthebest8056 : 9/16/2019 10:41 pm : link
is this one of those NBA-type conditional 1st round pick trades (protected 1-10)? Otherwise, they might've screwed the pooch on this one.
What are the Steelers thinking?
bigbluehoya : 9/16/2019 10:43 pm : link
This is poor asset management.
Once again the Steelers have the opportunity to have ONE shitty year
Mendenhall64 : 9/16/2019 10:45 pm : link
and draft high in a QB rich draft and they give it away??? WOW.
The Steelers traded up to get Mason Rudolph
Ten Ton Hammer : 9/16/2019 10:47 pm : link
They like him a lot. And his preseason was excellent.
some of Miami's first round picks
Giantsfan79 : 9/16/2019 10:49 pm : link
will look really good when they have trade them to us to move up to #1 to get Tua.
How often are 3rd rounders
Mendenhall64 : 9/16/2019 10:49 pm : link
franchise QBs?

Now this would be something
Steelers have done a great job
bluepepper : 9/16/2019 10:52 pm : link
talent over the years but I don't recall them trading their first rounders away many times if at all. Remember they sat tight and got their franchise QB in 2004 while we traded quite a bit to get ours. That's been their style and it's worked for them. To give up a one for a safety when the season looks iffy is a wow move.
With Ben out
Payasdaddy : 9/16/2019 10:54 pm : link
It may be a top ten
Stupid
Now the trick is beat out Miami
eli4life : 9/16/2019 10:55 pm : link
For the top pick threaten to trade the pick so someone else can get tua and take all Miami’s first round picks next year
Steelers looking a little desperate
Jimmy Googs : 9/16/2019 10:58 pm : link
you all know the type...
Really weird trade for Pittsburgh
Anakim : 9/16/2019 11:33 pm : link
I guess they have a ton of faith in Rudolph

Phins loading up on assets...
KentGraham : 9/17/2019 12:00 am : link
Maybe the Giants get the #1 pick, Rosen disappoints, and the Phins fall in love with a QB prospect... send those picks over here!
You guys and your assumptions
HomerJones45 : 9/17/2019 12:17 am : link
teams that have made a mess of the draft over several years and gotten themselves in the position of being league doormats, uh like the Giants and Dolphins, are "smart" for unloading the few good players they have and taking back draft picks when they have demonstrated little to no acumen in using draft picks. Meanwhile, the Steelers who have a demonstrated acumen in personnel matters are stupid for using a draft pick to get a young, premier player for the secondary.

They are only "assets" if the team knows how to use them. Otherwise, they are nothing but opportunities to openly demonstrate their continued fecklessness.
Fitzpatrick is a very good player, if they kept him he would have
Zeke's Alibi : 9/17/2019 12:19 am : link
Mutinied. Other guys are playing for jobs, he isn't and he was asked to play Swiss army for them getting beat up. He didn't like it. This is about securing a tremendous cheap player for Ben's last two years.

Better than the Eagles trading for him.

It is a bonus if the Steelers give away a top 10 pick.
Terrible deal by Pittsburgh
jeff57 : 9/17/2019 5:36 am : link
I guess Jacksonville should ask for two No. 1s for Ramsey.

If I was a Miami fan I would just soak up those draft analysts. this year. The talent coming out in the top 10 has great QBs, an elite pass rusher, a great WR and some great tackles. Wow. Miami could fill a number of the most important positions in 1 draft and be a juggernat in 3 years.

They may lose every game this year and will definitely be picking top 3. They should easily get to 2 top 10 picks and if the steelers bomb out, they may even be able to wind up trading up the later 1st rder and getting 3 top 10 picks. Yikes.

Terrible? Fitzpatrick was drafted #11 in 2018 draft. If he turns out to be a pro bowl caliber player, which isn’t a stretch based on his skills, then why isn’t giving up a first round pick smart? Secondary help is a massive need for the Steelers.

I do agree that Ramsey should cost more in draft capital.
Doesn’t seem stupid to me
UConn4523 : 9/17/2019 7:45 am : link
they already have a talented roster and having a top D makes it easier for Rudolph. They must also think he can play. The 9th pick in the draft last year was 6-10 so unless they finish around there this pick has no shot of being top 10.
I have zero experience as a scout
Prude : 9/17/2019 7:45 am : link
But I am fairly confident that if I was hired as a GM I could take Miami to the playoffs by 2022 with the draft capital they are sitting on right now. It's absolutely insane.
Actually feels like a bad trade for both teams
AcesUp : 9/17/2019 8:13 am : link
It really depends on how the Steelers finish but right now they are an ugly 0-2, their franchise QB just went on IR and potentially played his last snap for their team. They might need what is potentially a Top 10 pick in a top heavy QB draft.

The value of a 1 for a promising 2nd year DB is great value but the way that team is trending it probably wasn't the right move.

Well, they're already 0-2 and now have a 2nd year QB starting the rest of the way. I don't know what their schedule is like, but going 6-8 the rest of the way with Rudolph seems like a win for them. I'd sign up for that with Jones in a second (granted our D is much worse).
