So i'm not going to pretend that i'm not defeated by yet another poor start / lack of competitiveness, i'm tired of it. At least compete until November.
Here's my thing. Eli is just an absolutely horrible fit for this offense. Pat Shurmur absolutely needs a mobile quarterback to execute his system. This offense is completely neutered right now; can't run RPO's, read options between Saquon & Jones (picture the defense relenting to Saquon only for the 4.6 speed quarterback breaking off a 60 yard run in the 3rd quarter when the defensive end finally loses contain) We can't run effective bootlegs, rollouts etc. Now correct me if i'm wrong, these are big components of Pat Shurmur's offense. Its not even having Jones run a lot; its having the threat back there that is also going to help making defenses think. On 3rd and reasonable there is absolutely no threat of the quarterback taking off for a first down & Eli can't even push the ball downfield anymore.
One thing lost in this 0-2 start: the offensive line looks good! Not elite, but much improved.
My prediction? When Jones gets inserted into the lineup the offense will revive.The playbook will open up & Shurmur can get more creative.

I don't have tequila in front of me so lets hold off on talking about the defense.
Energy too... Think about this, we are super young and these guys know Eli from highlights and commentary mostly. Those highlights and commentaries have not been kind these last 2, 6 years... These kids hopefully are the future, as is Jones. Put Jones in and just feel the energy rise a bit. Eli's record over the last 6 years is awful. Not all his fault but nature of the position. It is time for Jones to play. You will see guys rally around him..
Only 9 of 46 passes were play action which is Eli's strength and 46 of 66 plays were in shotgun, which is an absolute joke and doesn't fit Eli or this offense. Shurmur is a fool.
Yeah you are overplaying this a bit. He is far from the worst QB in the league, he is skiddish as hell is what's the biggest problem... he is still making good throws.
It didn't help that we played two of the better defenses in the league without Tate and Shephard together on the field.
The main problem as I see it the first two games (aside from one of the worst defenses we have ever fielded) is the play calling is not helping Eli especially in short yardage and RZ, and we don't know if he can overcome being gun shy after years of shitty OL play. Jones is a better fit scheme wise just based on what we have seen Shurmur do with the other QBs he has coached.
Bullshit and absolutely wrong.. Your whole premise is wrong. They drafted a QB for that system... It is why Jones was a way better fit than Haskins! Stop making excuses for Eli. I am not saying Shurmur is a great coach but, his system and the fucking players we drafted, signed etc. are about fitting that system. You don't go against your plans just to appease the one guy who can't fucking do it! You get your guy, who you drafted for this, on the fucking field!
Listen, Eli is a great NY Giant but he is NOT a a great or even VERY good QB anymore. I don't want to hear a 37 year old QB talk about we just have to keep working and getting better.. Your time is done. All good things come to an end.. For every end there is someone else's beginning. Eli took over in 2004 and Jones needs to take over NOW in 2019!
