I know he has a no trade clause, but if he still thinks he can get it done, maybe he’s open to a new start?
Jacksonville? Reunited with Tom? Unlikely, considering Minshew has looked decent. That fan base would explode.
Jets? Just lost 2 QBs in a weeks time. Falk looked decent, but that would allow Eli to start and not leave the area, which he has been vocal about about being important.
Thoughts? Flame away
fuck that. We are paying him either way.
Let him impart all that knowledge on Jones and be around to come off the bench in the worst case scenario.
Also, I'm not convinced anybody would trade for him.
...zero IMO.
There's no demand.
they absolutely should not do this. if there are teams interested, they should work with Eli to get him to the one he'd most want to go to.
I believe at this point, his salary is fully guaranteed. If they trade him, they'll get relief for 14/16 of it and the acquiring team in a trade will pick up the remainder. I could be wrong about this, but if they can recoup ~$13-14M of cap that would roll into the future, they absolutely have to do it.
Team first.
HAHAHAHAHA
Makes no sense for the Giants to cut him because his salary for the rest of the year is guaranteed.
But there is a good chance Eli starts again for the Giants this year.
I fully expect that - get the start - get a few plays or a series and then have him removed mid-drive so he can get a standing ovation.
The Jets would seem to be the overwhelming favorite
They actually have a pretty good line-up. Just need an experienced QB
You mean like a ceremonial 1 snap type of start?
Not down the stretch he wasn't. He played great on their last drive.
I think they will if this is the case.

Has that ever happened in football before?

And when they lose he can retire with a losing record.
They did this right now to avoid that.
Release Tanney
I think they will if this is the case.
That depends on if they have offset language in his contract.
No offset language, no release.
Jets- very easily could see that. Darnold could be out for a bit. TS is out for the year most likely.
Jags- still possible as AFC South is up for grabs.
Pittsburgh- they could be in the market for a vet if anything happens to Rudolph.
Indianapolis- if Jacboy B were to get hurt they would be a big time possibility.
Minnesota- they are not thrilled with Cousins and have a ton of talent.
Maybe if he gets cut some desperate team might pick him up at a greatly reduced salary, but I think it's unlikely.
Barring a Jones injury or a farewell game 17 appearance (which Eli probably wouldn't want to do) I think the NFL has seen the last of Eli.
Even if he wants to play next year I think he'll put out some feelers, but when he realizes that he's not in demand at any price, I think he'll announce his retirement.
I can't see the organization openly shopping him or releasing him
If I am the Colts and feel ELI will be a security blanket for a team that has SB talent at WR, Oline, Rb and defense?
Jags- I am fine with GM as my QB???
If the Giants got a 6th rd pick for Eli that would be a fine deal for us and the other team gets a guy who can still play with superior talent around him..

Who walking the street has better ability?? LOL
But after watching those fluttering passes last week and the terrible rollout passes, I thought he was done.
Odds are he retires when the year is over.
Release Tanney
Especially now that he has done a deep dive into their play book
Good point. I thought about that after the Brees news we out. However, it wasn’t an option because Eli was still the starter. Forgot all about it now that’s jones has been given the ball.
That makes sense
...zero IMO.
There's no demand.
^This. There is no market for Eli. He's done. Nobody wants his contract. Nobody would even trade a seventh, even if he was willing to waive his no trade clause.

I doubt it. And I doubt Eli would want that to be honest.
Trade or release possibilities
Jets
Jacksonville
New Orleans
Denver
Pittsburg
New England (just because they are the ultimate Opportunists)
Miami
I don't think we can get much in a trade. Release is more likely.
I don't think the Giants will make any move unless Eli asks for his release
I was hoping he would have a decent year for his swan song and then retire at the end of the year. My prediction for the rest of the year is that unlike many other QBs that have said, "It's not my job to mentor xxxxxxx" (Big Ben, Favre, Flacco, etc), we will see Eli in Daniel's ear on the sideline for the rest of the year.
I really hope Eli sees the writing on the wall and calls it.
All class. 2 WELL DESERVED rings & SB MVPs!!! Hope to see him in the HoF as a retired NY Giant.

Not a Cap person but you are correct I would agree. I was just saying let him go as that would be most respectful and easiest solution.
But I HIGHLY doubt we'd trade him to the Jets.
But I HIGHLY doubt we'd trade him to the Jets.
I think if a team was actually interested and willing to give up something (anything) in return AND Eli wanted to go, we trade him. But again, I just don't think he has any value at this point.
If I'm say the Jax Jags and I do have interest in Eli, wouldn't I have to make room under the cap to take on his contract?
OR - can I trade for him and then redo his deal and he would have to agree to it so he would fit under the cap prior to the trade commencing?
I don't think the Giants have the option to "eat" the money like they do in baseball.
Am I correct on this?
What do you mean what do you do? You continue to lose games. This team isn't good.
correct
Are you suggesting he has no value b/c he can't play - or b/c no one wants him at what they are going to have to pay him?
That's kind of what my question was.
I am wondering where this is coming from, the idea that Eli is a good mentor. He's good guy but I am not sure if mentoring DJ is his schtick.
Eli won't want to go anywhere immediately, but if in a few games Jones is showing he's ready, and Eli can play somewhere else. Jones hasn't started a game. Very different circumstance, but when Gino started he got all of 1 game.
Also, that is what KC got for Alex Smith (people will forget about Kendall Fuller) so this saves face for both Giants and Eli. And by this i mean if you trade Eli for a 7th round pick, its kind of a slap in the face, isn't it?

knowledge.. Eli has NO trade value.. So there are guys walking the street with better ability and possibilities than Eli? So if I am the Jets I am better off signing a street FA?
If I am the Colts and feel ELI will be a security blanket for a team that has SB talent at WR, Oline, Rb and defense?
