and I think KL might have shown some negative personality traits to sour them.
I am sure they had a reason. But after this season the Giants are going to need to find a capable backup QB. They seemed to already have one. I don't get it. They seem to be making more problems.
Lauletta being around really wouldn't bring any benefit. I highly doubt going into 2020 the Giants would want to have two young QB's with barely any experience as QB1 and QB2. They are going to want to have someone who's been around to back up Jones. Lauletta screwed his chance up with the Giants last year, it was obvious the coaches didn't think much of him with where they buried him on the depth chart.
#2 they knew this switch was coming. I also believe as a result they don't want to play Eli anymore and would like to trade him. This means they need a backup to Jones, and they are right to want a vet rather than basically another rookie
they could just sign him off the Eagles practice squad. Again if he is as good as some suggest why haven't the Jags, Steelers, Jets, Saints, etc signed him when they are in need of a QB?
I'll bet your still disappointed that we got rid of Davis Webb too? Â

KL is still sitting on a practice squad, which means no other team in the NFL views him as a "capable backup QB" as of this moment.
There must have been something they didn't like about him Â
Why can’t Tanney be the backup to Jones next year?
I would prefer a better veteran backup like Case Keenum for next couple of years. After Jones is established they should look to add a cheaper backup through the draft preferably on day 3.
Remember last year, when a lot of people were begging Shurmur to give Lauletta a chance? He got his chance in Week 14, doing mop-up duty when he crushed Washington. And... he stunk. 0 for 5 with an interception. And after the game, Shurmur practically said, "That's why."
Fast forward to this year. It's Week 3, and Shurmur is going with Jones. That alone should show you the massive difference between the two quarterbacks and Shurmur's views on them.
Not commenting on how good Tanney is or whether we will need a better backup. I’m comparing Tanney as a backup to Lauletta. The thread started as questioning why Lauletta was cut.
and made comments that reflected poorly on the school. I mean team. The sooner you understand the Mara's run the team like they own a catholic high school the easier it will be to understand why they do what they do.
This question was asked and discussed when it happened.
NOTHING HAS CHANGED SINCE THEN.

The Jets are down 2 QBs and still don't think that highly of him...
Ditto Pittsburgh.

The powers-that-be didn't believe in him, I suppose. Same story as Davis Webb.
Unfortunate waste of a draft pick, especially for a team as desperate for talent infusion as the Giants. A big swing and a miss here.

+1
I hope not. DJ can have another veteran...a veteran who can actually play.
Tanney is bad

Realistically, his upside at that time was career backup. I believe that was pretty close to the general consensus. At best, a career backup QB.
So, with some possible (probable?) "personality issues", or work ethic issues, he's gone.
It really ought not be a surprise.
I hated the pick at the time. One of the few times I've been right!

- sign him after Jones goes down;
- not sign him ...
not necessarily in that order.
