Former Giants GM Ernie Accorsi, who traded for Eli Manning: "I've been through the passing of the torch before with Johnny Unitas. This is a very difficult time for me, although I knew sooner or later it would come." 1/2

Ernie Accorsi (2): "Eli Manning gave me the two greatest moments of my time in the National Football League. He will always be very special to me as will his two Super Bowl Championships."
LOL
Worked out to the tune of 2 championships.
Ernie doesn't work in the shadows with Bert Jones. He usually says the man's name directly. He's not Voldemort.

reference? Ernie's slipping.
LOL
Nate knows where he is but it's top secret information.
Big stones!
And 15 years later he gave us Dave Gettleman.
Do they cancel each other out? ;)
Ernie drafted Tuck, Osi, Snee, Diehl, Webster, Jacobs, Bradshaw etc. signed O'Hara, Seubert (UDFA) Plax, Mckenzie and Pierce etc. as FA's.
I'd rate GY slightly above him for the 80's but Ernie is one of the most important Giants ever.
Do you think Roethlisberger has been surrounded with better talent since 2012 than Eli? If they changed teams in 2012 do you think the Giants would have had the Steelers record and the Steelers the Giants record? I do not.
Eli got old. He lost his magic at least 2 maybe even more years ago. But the Giants as an organization badly failed him with the GM, coaching (and that includes late career Tom Coughlin who lost his fastball much more than Eli did in his last three Giants years) and most importantly the talent around him.
That's a lot of assumptions.

He could have drafted Roelisberger instead of drafting Rivers and then trading him along with the following year's 1st round pick for Manning. With Ben, I doubt the Giants have a sub .500 record and they would have had just as many SB appearances, if not more.
That's a lot of assumptions.
Compare the Giants/Eli record vs. Steelers/Ben record since 2004. No assumption needed, IMO.

You don't think that maybe - just maybe - the offensive talent has been different for the two of them?

Maybe Ernie has learned to be more subtle
Ben's also probably serving a life sentence on Rikers after he sexually assaulted Lord knows how many women if he's living in the NYC area.
For a long time he neglected the OL but then he splurged on Snee + McKenzie. Osi and Tuck were good picks. Kiwanuka too before he got hurt and yanked back and forth between LB/DE. OL and DL were key to the first SB obviously and they weren't just his players, but areas that came to define his philosophy.
