I'm going to look at this from a "glass half" full perspective when thinking about 2020
1) Jones gets almost a full season of experience, which should only benefit him for 2020. Same with the slew of young the other players (Baker, Lawrence, Hill, Carter Xman, Love etc..)
2) Assuming the following guys are traded or released before next year; Jenkins, Ogletree, Martin, Ellison and Bethea, we will have almost $100 million cap space to improve the defense and other holes in the roster
3) We will likely have a top 10 ish pick in the draft and hopefully land an impact player (WR or pass rusher)
I honestly feel that this should be the final year of the rebuild and we should have a much better team on the field in 2020. I like the direction the team is going and am excited to watch them grow.
1) QB heavy draft. if a new regime comes in, and Jones doesn't have it, well they may be staring Hebert in the face at pick #2.
2) Eli may have marginal value and interested in a trade , at least as a backup to another team especially 3 or 4 weeks form now.
3) It' allows them to leverage his mobility which should help the entire offense especially the running game on a team which doesn't have top line WRs
4) The entire organization and fan base is sick of losing. Eli is a joke around the league at this point. Jones gives hope to the organization and something to look forward to.
I don't necessarily agree that Jones has to prove it this season. But he could flop and play himself out of the job. Steve Walsh did in Dallas and the Cowboys moved on to Troy Aikman. It happens a lot, even to guys drafted early. But I think that's unlikely with Jones. The real issue comes when and if he's settled in and we see whether he's going to be just ok, good or better than good. If he turns out to have a low ceiling, then they'll have to think about moving on.
That said, I don't get that vibe from this kid. I think he is a competent QB at a minimum. He looked great in the preseason and I think he impressed the organization.
Can he be a franchise QB and win a championship?
We are going to find out. Fingers crossed.

Exactly this
Problem is he’s had more mistakes than successes so far

Not sure I agree. He's had a few (mainly O-line last year), but overall, I think he has built a good young roster with a lot of potential.
These posts are never going to end huh?
Unfortunately we have posters like you who post crap like this. No GMAN fan wants GMen to lose in the manner you speak. This type of nonsense makes you look petty. Grow up.
Agree with this. I think progress will be key the rest of the way which includes:
-Jones showing flashes/improving
-Barkley being a focal point of the offense
-Shepard & Engram making an impact on offense
-Improved defense (mainly the secondary)
-Some wins
I don’t think 3-13 will be acceptable to ownership. Shurmur needs to win some games. I do think Gettleman has a longer leash than Shurmur.
Ideally, Jones shows flashes & the 2020 FA/draft is an infusion of talent which FINALLY leads to a competitive team next year.
