If Shurmer were let go, who would you bring in?

JFIB : 9/17/2019 1:38 pm
This has nothing to do with DJ taking over or if it would happen, but a lot of BBI is talking about showing Shurmer the door. Let's just say the end of the season sees management uninspired with the coaching and wants to make a change. Who would you like to see brought in. I'm thinking Chuck Pagano would be the hottest candidate around. Three playoff years in Indy and he has that Chicago Defense absolutely humming!

Dan Campbell

Would be my pick. Appears to be a solid guy and good leader.
it's crazy how Mike Groh's built a solid coaching resume
Greg from LI : 9/17/2019 1:56 pm : link
He was such a disaster as his father's OC at UVA 15 years ago. Totally in over his head. Have to give him a ton of credit for having the humility to go from an OC to a graduate assistant in order to have the opportunity to learn from the dark master, Nick Saban.
the main changes need to happen

at the top. Many good coaches will not come here based on the incompetence of the almost decade of poor football decisions and play. Why move to NY for 2 years and have to leave?
Someone whose going to work..

Canít get it wrong. Iím intrigued by McDaniels & I wonder if Patricia was the first choice after 2017.

I like this too.
Chris, that may be true

But Al Golden did a pretty solid job at Temple, too, before falling flat on his face in Miami. Personally, I'd like to see a little more from a guy before giving him the big job.
and I continue to say hell fuck no to Josh McDaniels

I'm not down-voting Rhule, but that criteria needs to be eliminated.

There is a problem with the manner in which the major decisions in this franchise have been made. Clear as day.
McDaniels...

I had the name "Joe Girardi" all queued up but that was for another team I root for.

..I watched the latest "Do your job" video on YouTube about the Pats and have warmed up to him. I soured on him after the Colts thing. He;s likely Bill B's successor though.

Eric Bieniemy is another name I like
I'd interview Rod Marinelli

Well, they say that Belichick is driven by challenges more than any other coach is. Is there a bigger challenge than turning this franchise that he still loves around?

(That needs to be a part of the pitch, too.)

Is it just because he was a Coughlin assistant? The guy is 38-40 as a head coach.

I'm always wary of college coaches, but I would be OK with rolling the dice on Lincoln Riley.

With a young QB, I'd think they'd want to go with an offensive-minded guy, and Riley is one college guy I would take a shot at.
Doubt Lincoln Riley leaves Oklahoma
Oscar : 9/17/2019 2:22 pm : link
Money is as good or better in college now, frankly itís a better job than most NFL jobs, maybe than all NFL jobs. Once you have the recruit pipeline rolling itís not going to stop. A lot different than having to deal with the draft and free agents and the salary cap.

He can keep that job for 20 years if he wants.

Way too
mrvax : 9/17/2019 2:30 pm : link
early to consider that. It's important for PS to see what DJ does well and change his scheme to match that (if necessary).

My choice is still Bill Belichick.
Affirmation : 9/17/2019 2:36 pm : link
As already mentioned, do everything to entice him back here. He is motivated by challenges and turning this franchise around with a promising QB and an incredible RB specifically should be challenging enough. He doesn't seem to be wanting to retire anytime soon so give him a 3-5 year contract and give him control. That means firing both Pat Schurmur and Dave Gettleman and giving all the authority they had to Bill. It's still unlikely to happen at this point but there is still a chance for sure.
It would be John Fox.

I would trade our entire roster for Belichick. If Mara hasn't offered him $50M+ to come coach the Giants then he's done a poor job.

Forget it, not because it's a bad idea, but BB would want total control and no one is getting that without wrestling out of Jawn's cold, dead hand.

Tom Coughlin was an offensive assistant. So was Paul Brown, Tom Landry, Bill Walsh, Joe Gibbs, Mike Shanahan....

Tome Landry was a defensive coach

but they missed that opportunity. Not sure who I would want at this point but IMO it's not very likely that Shurmur is replaced after the season anyway.

Or he might want to use the top 5 pick we likely get on a QB he prefers to Jones.
