If Jones were to come in and play well would that hurt Eli

NY-Fan : 9/17/2019 1:56 pm
Let’s say Jones comes in and the offense performs much better. How do you think that would add to how others view Eli. Would that and the fact Eli was a 500 QB make the case for HOF harder? I think he is a HOF QB for sure but I know many who vote will try to argue that.

Only if he lights it up which is unlikely.

It would look really bad if DJ goes out there and lights it up with this offense and Eli couldn't drum up any points with them.
Eli's HOF case was made in Feb 2011.

I wish there was more but the first half of his career should be enough.

some people it might. Most people understand that athletes degrade when they age and it's rare when an athlete's final year is as good as his earlier years.
I hope DJ comes in and does light it up...
BillKo : 9/17/2019 2:05 pm : link
...that would be awesome.

But Eli's legacy was made over his entire career, just not the last few years.

Anyone who says otherwise is clueless.

I'm not so sure Eli makes the HOF.
I love Eli, but i don't think he's a HOFer.
eclipz928 : 9/17/2019 2:12 pm : link
How many times during his career has he been a top 3 QB in the league? Top 5?

If he's ever going to be considered for HOF he's going to have to wait in a long line of QB's to get in.

And if he retired in 2015 he'd be an absolute lock to make it. His overall record makes it questionable now.
Here's a timely article....
Britt in VA : 9/17/2019 2:15 pm : link
Now I normally wouldn't post this because this is the same conversation played out all the time.

That said, I noticed something funny. All the NFL writers voted yes. One said he was undecided.

The ONLY two that said no were a fantasy football writer and a dude from PFF.

he moonwalks in...he's a manning, 2 Sb mvps, 7th all time for passing yds...no brainer.

I use the same argument for Bonds and Clemmons. Put an asterisk or a plaque, explain it but they are part of the history
How a player played at the end of his career
steve in ky : 9/17/2019 2:44 pm : link
is not a large factor with any HOF player. Did you see Namath and Unitas at the end?
There are only two qb's with multiple SB wins not in the HOF
HomerJones45 : 9/17/2019 2:49 pm : link
Jim Plunkett and Doug Williams. Good qb's who were treated unfairly starting their careers with awful teams. Neither has Manning's resume.
Manning has been over the hill
jeff57 : 9/17/2019 2:51 pm : link
For a couple of years now. Only the most die hard Eli fans knew that. So it wouldn't affect him one way or the other.

Plunkett should be in. I think it's a real injustice that he isn't.
Doug Williams had multiple SB wins?

DJ may have more success. No tape on him. He is more mobile, can run RPO. SO he may look better, does mean he is better? Let's see in 5-7 years.
Y'know, I like Eli, I appreciate Eli,
81_Great_Dane : 9/17/2019 2:58 pm : link
but I just can't muster any feelings about this kind of thing. His career is his career. He'll get in the HOF or he won't. It won't change anything. We still got to watch those two amazing Super Bowl wins, whether he goes to Canton or the world thinks he's dog crap.

Giant John : 9/17/2019 3:03 pm : link
Not the Eli Manning on our team. There is an end to most everything I can think of and if this is Eli’s he will want to go out knowing the position is in good hands.

It could, but I hope people wouldn't automatically conclude there's a huge difference in talent and Eli was just abysmal in comparison. It just depends on the circumstances, and I honestly believe the rest of the players might just change their mentality a bit... not because they hated Eli, but simply because of a sense of excitement.

Played against 2 of the tougher defenses in the league. We SHOULD score more points. If we don't, that's on the kid.

Agree 100 % just the fact that he has Two SB mvp's
and at the hands of the GOAT Tom Brady being only
five players in the history of the game have managed
two . I also think he had a chance for a third shot
at a Lombardi when Plax glocked himself .
I think after seeing
Photoguy : 9/17/2019 4:02 pm : link
and hearing and reading about what kind of guy Eli is, I think he'd be extremely happy for the kid, and the team.
Jim Plunkett should be in the HoF
markky : 9/17/2019 4:30 pm : link
so should Eli. The San Fran playoff game made up my mind.

that's my opinion.
