Eli to the "Big Easy" ?? ...

Manny in CA : 9/17/2019 3:54 pm

Why not ?

* He has plenty left

* The Giants are presently a talentless, rebuilding train wreck.

* We can use the salary relief (and draft choices)

* He's from New Orleans

* Even before the injury, Brees (age 40) showed signs that his arm is gone

* The Saints are Super Bowl ready (just like the Broncos were when Peyton went there)

Eli is not an upgrade over Teddy B
Your first point
Josh in the City : 9/17/2019 3:56 pm : link
Is wrong.
Is Eli that much better than Bridgewater is now?
figgy2989 : 9/17/2019 3:57 pm : link
Plus, Brees is coming back in 6 weeks, they just need Teddy to keep the ship a float and stay in contention until he gets back.
Just my thoughts-
BigBlue2112 : 9/17/2019 3:58 pm : link
He has four kids ages 8 and under.

His home is in New Jersey.

He's 38 and already has two rings. Lots of reasons to stay in NJ and not chase a ring.
Geographically...
bw in dc : 9/17/2019 3:58 pm : link
that makes sense.

If anyone could call a game that would best fit Eli it would be that scum of the earth Payton.

That would be an interesting project for him...
Even if the Saints want him, they don't , Eli isn't waiving his NTC
Zeke's Alibi : 9/17/2019 4:00 pm : link
to just get sent back to the bench.

New Orleans can't wait for Brees

Teddy B is a decent back up option.

Steelers on the other hand...

But I agree he will stick around NJ and retire.

think of all teams the Jags make the most sense as of 9/17/2019
Pitt would be more likely
bradshaw44 : 9/17/2019 4:08 pm : link
or Jax. Pitt being that Ben is done for the YEAR. Brees is coming back and they just need a stop gap. Preferably one that doesn't cost 20 mil.

Pitt just made a move for Minka, they want to win now. I could see a phone call being made by them.
Bridgewater is and will always remain a JAG.
Manny in CA : 9/17/2019 4:08 pm : link

Brees is a little 40 year old man whose arm is gone and now has a busted thumb.

He's always been smart and fearless. I give him his due, but the Saints are poised to make the Ram Nightmare just a memory.

Jax OL sucks
bradshaw44 : 9/17/2019 4:08 pm : link
So I could see Eli saying hell to the no.
Nobody wants eli

Eli is
Giantophile : 9/17/2019 4:11 pm : link
going to finish the season as #2, mentor Jones to the best of his ability and retire a Giant at the end of the year.

Nobody is trading for Eli, he's here then he's retiring.
for whatever reason, and
japanhead : 9/17/2019 4:16 pm : link
god only knows why after this organization screwed up the last 7-8 years of his career, but eli has stated he only wants to ever play for the giants. who knows if that changes after today, but he's said it i believe multiple times. idk that his ego is big enough that he feels the need to prove his haters wrong.

Pittsburgh is too incestous with the Rooneys and Maras. I just don't see it.

Plus, they really like Rudolph and think he's ready.

If any BBIer honestly believes that Eli still has "plenty left" I'll be kind and suggest that you've been watching games with your heart and not with your head.

If this were any other QB (on a team you didn't care about one way or the other), my guess is that you'd come to a far more objective conclusion.

The Saints make the most sense
Jay on the Island : 9/17/2019 4:22 pm : link
They have a great offensive line, weapons, and RB. Eli can still play well with all that IMO.

I think Pitt makes the most sense since Ben is out for the year and they are now somewhat all in after getting Fitzpatrick. Jax would make sense too, but ultimately I think any trade is a long shot.

Go get a third SB someplace else and makes us contenders again. We will be happy.

So you think he would turn down an opportunity to start for NO so he could love the good life as a retiree in Hoboken ?
IF Eli agrees
JohnF : 9/17/2019 5:07 pm : link
Trade him and our 4th round pick to Pitt for their third. Odds are, our 4th is nearly a third at this point, so that's a trade that would work for both sides.

I agree. And the rest of the NFL has known he's finished for years.

It hurts to admit, but there is a reason everyone was mocking him around the league. DeMarcus Lawrence, OBJ - these guys are classless A-holes but there is something behind their words too.

All great QBs eventually can't physically do it anymore. A glaring sign the past few years is the 4th quarter comebacks drying up. Seems like the few times he had a chance to win on the final drive he came up short. Still remember the Colts game last year when he got the ball back near midfield with a minute left and failed to get into FG range.
The Saints no - but I would like to see him at JAX

How many of you at 38 years of age would reject a request for a six month transfer away from home.
(Especially if that transfer were to grandpa's home town.)

It is not beyond the realm of possibility that Eli had already planned to retire at the end of the season. This would be a good opportunity to "wind down" from football in a place where he may be appreciated; and certainly less uncomfortable for the team, Jones and himself to be sitting on the bench as backup to his successor.

Why not at retirement pick up the family and move "back home?

There is nothing to keep Eli in the N.Y. area. I would rather be in Louisiana or anywhere else than N.Y.-N.J.

Eli has a no trade clause. They need his permission to trade him. He does not "have" to agree to go.
The Giants are the only team
Rflairr : 9/17/2019 7:19 pm : link
that wants Eli. Not sure why some of you can't see that. They could have cut him in the offseason and re signed him for about 2 mill Thats about the best offer he would have got. Instead they stupidly paid him that big roster bonus. lol

That's exactly what he's saying. He would have to agree to go in order to be traded.
I think of all the teams

NO may be on the top of his list if not the only team on the list.. I am pretty sure Eli still has deep connections with NO.. and won't be surprised if he moves there once he is retired..

However I would hate for him to play for another team.. I still hate the fact that Ewing played for another team.. No need to discuss trade .. Just keep him here unless Eli forces the issue..

Did Peyton Manning go back or did he stay in Denver or Indy?
It's #1 pick Jones' team now ...
Manny in CA : 9/17/2019 11:53 pm : link

If he stumbles, they're not putting Eli back in; they'll just let Jones take his lumps and "be better for it".

So, Eli's relegated to be a dead tree stump in the yard. If they can't trade him, just pay him and release him.

$ 20M's a heck of a lot of money, but is it worth being humiliated on the bench after being a 2 time Super Bowl MVP ?

Ten Ton Hammer : 9/18/2019 12:35 am : link

Eli can end up in the “Big Easy” the same way I can.
Default : 9/18/2019 12:50 am : link
On vacation.
There is only one NFL team willing to pay Eli for his “services” at this point and he is on that team.
If Brees was not scheduled to be back this year
Matt M. : 9/18/2019 1:11 am : link
it would be intriguing and makes sense for him given his roots in NO. But, with Brees due back in the second half, it doesn't really make sense for NO or him.

First of all, how is it being humiliated? The team sucks and he is a lame duck QB at the end of his career. They have the heir apparent on their roster, so now is the time to play Jones. IF the team managed to win one of the two games , or maybe even looked at all competitive, he would still start. But, this team made it painfully clear they are going nowhere.

Second of all, you make it sound like Eli has a choice in sitting the bench. The only way he has a choice is if he chooses to retire during the season, which I don't see happening. He is a classy athlete and person. He will handle this properly and will actually avoid embarrassment. Will he be disappointed? Absolutely. But, embarrassed? I don't think so. He has every reason to hold his head high and I fully expect him to.

How many 4th quarter comebacks has he had over the lasts few years which did not end up as wins since the defense then also gave up a score? I believe there were several including Carolina kicking a 64 yard field goal and Dallas basically laughing at our defense. Another one off the top of my head was Green Bay with Aaron Rogers confidently marching down the field for a winning field goal. and I'm sure there were more.
