seems like they "planned" on competing this year and haven't. As long as they spoke to Eli before the news broke, what more could have been done? It was the right move.
Would he have said if we had released him in the off-season? I actually think that would’ve been less embarrassing for Eli. I guess I should say I’m assuming he’s embarrassed maybe he is not—- I am sure assuming he is hurt as a competitor
to bench him after a game where he was missing a bunch of WRs while playing against one of the best pass defenses in the league, but i think we all expected this after week 3, or after week 4 at the latest, barring some miracle.
i question doing it now, but who knows what went into that calculation. just a few days ago in interview eli was talking like his career was in the past tense
just so i can explain to him how wrong he is because it was driving me crazy.
The giants brought back eli for 2 reasons.
1. They foolishly thought if they fix the OL that eli will play better and have a chance to compete for the playoffs this year.
2. They drafted a rookie and did not know if/when he will be ready this year so they wanted to make sure to have Eli as insurance policy in case he needed more time.
What has happened since the draft, is jones has surprised them through the OTAs, training camp, preseason and has shown he is ready to start now while i guess the light bulb finally went off at jints central simultaneously that Eli is a shell of himself and this is a bad football team anyway.
They did not bring back Eli thinking he was only going to start 2 games but the combination of Eli continuing to show his decline even with an improved OL and jones impressing them showing he is ready fast forwarded this move.

Benching Eli has more to do with Shurmur trying to save his job than it being the right decision. Eli should play till we are mathematically eliminated then bring th kid in.
I listened to a bit of his argument with Lagreca Â
He wasn't even arguing that the Giants owe him the starting job. He was saying they owe him the opportunity to latch on somewhere else by cutting him now. He even argues knowing this was a possibility this year they should have released him before the season, not for cap savings, but for him to go somewhere else with a shot to win and Giants sign some veteran. He came off sounding like a moron.

I LOVE Eli, but I disagree. This team has shown they are a bad team to the point there really isn't a realistic expectation of anything close to a competitive season. Under those circumstances, what purpose is served by playing Eli? If the D is going to suck and if he is not going to make the plays to carry the team on his back like 2011, then there is simply no reason to continue starting him.
Nah they talk about everything on his radio show, even hockey occasionally
Haha yup. Getting someone to start a thread about him = win.
Francesa figured this out over 20 years ago
this.
time to move on. nobodies gonna let the door hit eli on the way out. Poor talent evaluations and drafts mainl
They might as well be holding a script when they go on those rants.
Sports radio blows. (Pretty much all talk radio blows.)

LOL, right!
Like him or hate him, Francesa has provided a career for both Kay and Mushnik.
Exactly nobody should be surprised by the Giants benching Eli. Kay is trolling for attention.
To Get The Most Out Of Daniel Jones The Giants Should Release Eli Manning - ( New Window )

What's wrong with it? It's a fair position.

I heard that and laughed. Like seriously what kind of question is that?
I'll still take TMKS over the Hartford drive time abomination that is the Rob Dibble Show though
