I felt he was useless as the 3rd QB when Eli was the starter - maybe protection from having to play Jones sooner than they wanted to, but even then it was a stretch to me.
So, now that Jones is starting, it's even more annoying that Tanney clogs up a roster spot.
It's irrational why it bothers me so much and I know that, but it doesn't change my opinion.
If nothing happens with Eli then there is no way it makes sense to me to have both on the roster.
Same story, same reaction. Rince and repeat.
He's not in their long term plans. He had his shot to earn it, he didn't.
That's not a serious post is it? I can't tell with all the sarcasm around here today.

Maybe he didn't in practice. And maybe there's some other intangible element that fans don't see that makes Tanney a better selection.
But in terms of their preseason efforts, Lauletta definitely earned it. And the Eagles weren't slow to act on it either.
I doubt the 2nd QB of 2020 is on the roster today. At least there will be another vet brought in to compete .

Yes, it's serious. I don't agree with it, but I think that is their plan.
Tanney is here to emulate opponents.
The Eagles let him go through waivers just like every other team, so they didn't exactly pounce like a hungry tiger. And they haven't locked him down with a roster spot either. Presumably they think more of him than the Giants do, and maybe they're right, but they obviously nonetheless view him as eminently disposable.
I really liked Lauletta but he really was not a great thrower. I'm not too surprised that nobody picked him up (at least to an active roster).

not because Lauletta's going to be any sort of world beater, but he looked a lot better than Tanney in what limited action they both got.

This isn't wrong - but again, he's not competing against prime John Elway. Whatever he was, he was better than Tanney.
he can't play. we know he can't play, he's inactive on game days and should be the rest of the way - as long as Eli is on the team.
he's 32 years old, the Giants are his 9th team, and he has thrown 14 passes in the NFL.
why cut players like Conrad, Perkins, etc. for a guy like Tanney.
The Giants aren't looking at this the way fans are. That's the diconnect

Given the Giants level of ineptitude these past few years, maybe crowdsourcing ideas from the Internet would actually benefit them.

Well that explains a fuck-ton. If Taney is the scout QB then our defense must be assuming the other QB will throw passes right in their bread baskets.

Sure, but that's not really the point. What possible value does a third QB have on this team? Unless people think Eli is a dick who isn't going to work with Jones, it's implausible that Tanney can somehow add value as a mentor above what Eli can do. And as unlikely as it seems to me that they want Tanney next year as the #2, if they do, does anyone really think he's going to be unavailable to sign this off-season? Or that five guys every bit as useful as him won't be available if he's not? Unless and until Eli's gone, any third QB, Tanney, Lauletta, the great Geno Smith, is just a wasted roster spot. Not that whatever street guy we'd replace him with is going to light the world on fire, but you only get so many spots, might as well use them as best you can.
Well done, idiots.
I was never quite sure where I fell on the keep Eli vs go with Jones from the jump debate. Both had merit.
I still think they shouldn't start Jones now until we get some WRs back.

A QB coach isn't involved on the field. A QB coach isn't running the second team. A QB coach isn't suited up and going through the things Jones is going through.
Whatever reason Shurmur cleary loves Tanney and feels he adds something to developing Jones. As long as Shurmur is the Giants coach you have to allow him the resources to develop Jones cause that is his legacy. Otherwise just fire Shurmur now and you won't have to worry about his guy Tanney.
Every QB that runs the scout team is a shell of the QBs that play on Sunday. I guess you were assuming NFL teams were running out staring level QBs on scout teams. Let me LOLOLOLOLOL. Thank for the laugh.
Well done, idiots.
It's impressive that they managed to do it twice. Total incompetence.
Want to be remembered as the son of a great owner who has run their respective franchise into the ground.
Should have just traded Eli. Bow tie time to pray Jones is the man and we suck enough to make sure we get Chase Young
I know you never want to wish people ill but can we hope the Mara’a, Steve
‘‘Tisch and Gettleman get sucked into a worm hole for a couple years and someone with a clue gets out in charge. They can come back like everyone did in the Avengers Endgame
Well done, idiots.
Yep
You may disagree, but that's what he is. Much like this career backup player who was here named Jason Garrett, you might remember him as the coach who led his team to kick our ass week 1 (granted, not a tough task).
Jason Garrett had much the same role Tanney does now back when he played. He actually started very few games just like Tanney, and he also bounced around a bit, but he was football smart and was considered a good guy to have in the QB room apparently.
It's very clear Tanney basically a player coach in the QB room, and runs the scout team. That's what they wanted him for, not to play. They know if Eli AND Jones are both out, whatever Tanney does won't matter to the season much because it's already over for all intents and purposes.
One could argue that with Eli certainly gone at the year's end, it's more important to have Tanney now to be the player coach for Jones than it was before for continuity.
You have to be better than somebody at something in order to be their mentor. He's probably just good at running the scout team.
no
Let it go. Who cares?
There are numerous players on this roster that don't belong on an NFL roster. We didn't cut anybody with any value to keep Tanney. The roster is dreadful. This pissing and moaning about Tanney is completely fucking pointless.
Lauletta isn't very good either. He's gone. Again, who cares?
This team needs a lot more talent. If that happens Tanney will be history. At that point they will pick up a serviceable back up.
The day they cut a good player to keep Tanney I will be here pissing with the rest of you, but that hasn't happened yet.
I'm honestly perplexed as to why people we are losing sleep over this. Much bigger fish to fry.

NO...you need to KNOW more than somebody and you need to establish a connection with them to be Their Mentor...all other arguments aside

I can't argue that.
You could argue, as I saw above, that Tanney should therefore be a coach and not take up a roster spot. That is a fair point, but it may be more about having Tanney be "one of the guys" in the locker room, which mat allow DJ to interact in a more symbiotic manner.
Players like Alonzo Russel, Carlock, Lauletta, may have warts, but also may be the types to get to crew feeling that team group thing.
Russel what's his name had the team fired up after that saved td
