Former players tweets

GiantsGorilla1980s : 9/17/2019 7:32 pm
O’Hara tweeted So incredibly Disappointed & Frustrated with the @Giants Right now. Defense gives up 63 Points in 2 Games & WR Group is depleted but let’s Change our QB??

Brandon London tweeted. Those who boo'd the pick aren't allowed to RT, comment or have an opinion!
Went from booing to jock riding. You know who you are.

Way to show support for Jones guys .listen I am greatly appreciated of Eli and the time he gave us and never missing a game but it is time to move on. I understand these guys played with Eli but for them to come out like this and act like they are benching Eli in his prime is ridiculous he is 8-26 since 2017 they are replacing him with a guy they drafted 6th overall this is not Geno Smith. Show some dam support for Jones. Any other former players tweet how upset they are about the benching of Eli?

I will take former Giant Player tweets no one cares about for $1000 Alex...

Guys are humans and friends/know Eli. They don’t know Jones from a hole in the wall. Other than finding it frustrating O’Hara can’t see this is about more than this season (why should he? He’s not a fan, he’s an ex-Giant and won with Eli). No real issue. Even the celebration over DJ is a “change” from draft day. That’s fine, that’s being a fan but it’s true.
Kerry Collins’ teammates bashed the Eli pick back in 2004.
bceagle05 : 9/17/2019 7:41 pm : link
Circle of life in the NFL. It’s a plus when QBs inspire loyalty from teammates. Hopefully Will Hernandez will have Jones’ back when he’s on the other side of it.
O'hara has no objectivity here
Giantfan21 : 9/17/2019 7:47 pm : link
It is a shame to make a statement like that criticizing the giants franchise when they are actually doing the right thing for once .

I understand he is very good friends with Eli, hell he said Eli is a better QB then Dak before the season started so he obviously is not thinking logically but emotionally.

But i wonder why he chose to omit that the offense put up a combined 24 points through the 1st two games of the season not counting the garbage time TD in Dallas. Just because the Defense stinks, doesn't mean the offense is even passable right now
If he watched some of those

passes Eli threw, he shouldn't say anything.

They are also former professional athletes and should be mature enough to not put this out on Social media.

fact that the defense is bad and the WR corps is depleted doesn't change the fact that Eli can't extend plays, or even move. He's completely immobile. He's done. As the OP said, he's 8-26 since 2017. Everyone agrees that Reese ruined the second half of his career with poor drafting, but he can't perform anymore as a starter. Jones is much more mobile, and was the #6 pick. We need to see what he has for the rest of the year.

O'Hara and Eli are close, and he has his back. At least this time the negative reaction has been much more tame from former players and fans than last time.

It’s not Eli’s fault.

But it is the right call for the future of the NY Giants.

Wait, you used mature and social media in the same sentence?
not an entirely irrational sentiment

defense, specifically pass rush and secondary who are the main problems so far.
Jones
rocco8112 : 9/17/2019 9:09 pm : link
needs to earn respect. Eli was disrespected his whole career except the morning after Super Bowls 42 and 46.

Jones needs the big boy pants now and this type of stuff is the least of his problems. Eli is not around to take all the blame anymore.
Both work in the Media

This was Eli’s last year here. Jones coming in is not management saying he is the problem. It is saying our team sucks, and that we aren’t competing based on what they have seen after 2 games. We have 60 million in cap room and presumably more high draft picks on the way. Get the kid out there and let him get some reps in so we may actually compete next year. This isn’t two years ago when they benched him for Geno Smith. It’s a completely different situation.
There was an interesting exchange between Ross Tucker and Kurt Warner

Espn has it on their site. Some of Warner’s responses are pretty ironic.

Eli was part of the problem
TD : 9/18/2019 6:48 am : link
He had a solid OL, best RB in the game and Engram. The Giants O couldn’t break 14 points.

In today’s NFL, that’s unacceptable. The QB has been a problem on this team for a few years now, at least. Just because QB was out-shadowed by the OL (17-18) and D (19), doesn’t mean QB was fine.

Eli was a great QB in his prime. He’s not that anymore. He’s not even good now. It was time to move on. Giving him $23M/17M to play this year was stupid. But it’s done. Let’s move on to DJ now. Hopefully, he’s good.

had Eli's hands on his ass for seven years. There is close emotional bond!

Parcells always talked about the kinship of winning a Super Bowl together. I would hope former teammates have Eli's back and see no issue with his tweet.
O’Hara kind of chucklehead statement
Jimmy Googs : 9/18/2019 6:58 am : link
He’s frustrated but he wants the status quo?

Hopefully in the next few weeks he’ll be breaking down video of Jones on NFLN and remarking how well he’s playing...
I love Eli and have defended him for years.......
Tom [Giants fan] : 9/18/2019 8:06 am : link
to other fan bases but even I can see it is time to move on. It is true it is not his fault alone the Giants are 0-2 but his throws are not what they used to be. And he is a sitting duck back there as it looks like he runs in slow motion. Of course, if DJ stinks it up for a couple of games, you know there is going to be a lot of fans calling for Eli to start again and DG to be fired!
For some of these guys it would never

In your effort to go down swinging, you just implied that the talking head ex-players on Twitter know more than actual NFL coaches, and framed it in a message that actually called someone else clueless.

I don't know how you do it, but you consistently amaze me. Good thing blinking and breathing are instinctive.

And, as was mentioned above, maybe NFL coaches know more than the people who played the game and now talk about it on Twitter. The jury is still out on Shurmur, but I don't see anyone beating down O'Hara's door to have him coach their team, either.

There's emotion here, and that's totally expected and justifiable. I'd be acting the exact same way if one of my closest friends lost his job or got demoted or whatever comparison is most apt. Most people probably would.
