This is like a golden parachute year for Eli. Despite all the hits, he is healthy, not concussed, and can cash those big blue checks.
Let’s say Jones has a perfectly solid year, we’ve seen what we want to see out of him.... but are totally out of playoff hunt.... I wouldn’t mind seeing Eli get the week 17 start. Could pull a Kobe and drop 5 TDs while beating the Eagles in a farewell home game.
I am eli, what is the point in playing somewhere else? He has more than enough money not only for his family, but for family generations to come. He has nothing left to prove in this league other than he is not “done.” He walked away without any major injuries. Why would you want to now spend a couple of months away from the family you’ve seen every day as a Giant?
When he retires and returns to the Giants fans, he is likely he given the loudest ovation any former Giant received. He can capitalize off his stardom in the league and in the biggest media market in the world if he chooses to. There’s nothing left for him to do in this league.

Winning. Some players are in it for the thrill of victory. And pride.
Don’t give Gettleman the oppty to ship him off to Siberia for a swap of 7th round picks ! Stay healthy , count his money and next year see if any viable opportunities at market rates appear. Otherwise retire with the dignity he has always had .

Winning and his legacy vs his peers. Maybe I’m wrong but there’s probably some internal competition with guys like Ben and Rivers.
There could be a decent market for all parties involved. Saints and Steelers get a chance to salvage their seasons with him. Same with the Jags. He goes to a winning ball club and resets his value in FA next year.
All depends on what his goals are. Maybe he’s fine riding off into the sunset with his resume as is. But if he wants to play a few more years he needs to waive the NTC or at least give the organization a list of clubs he’s willing to play with.
Jones is the goods and leads us to the playoffs. He gets hurt (nothing long term) in last game. Manning steps back in and leads us to Superbowl win. Manning retires.
Jones steps back in in 2020 and doesn't miss another game for next 15 years.

I am waiting for someone to say, "Well yeah that's OK, but who will the backup QB next year?"
It does seem pretty perfect that the same week Eli gets benched, we find out Roethlisberger is done for the season and Drew Brees is out for 6 weeks. Not to mention Darnold is out indefinitely with mono and Siemian broke his ankle last night. Oh and Nick Foles is also out for the season. ...
OK the Jets are not a contender this year, but the Jags and Steelers are in an 0-2 hole and were both supposed to be contenders this year. The Saints need to do their best to stay in the playoff hunt with Brees out. I'm not saying Eli has "it" anymore, but with teams around the league so thin at QB I would be surprised if not ONE team figures they might have a better shot with Eli than whoever their current backup is.
If we could trade him, to me it wouldn't be about the assets we get in the trade (maybe a team gives up a 6th rounder?), it's about the potential of cap savings. What would the cap savings be if we traded him right now?
I know, I know, Eli said he wouldn't waive the NTC... but if a team called him up I'm wondering if he could change his mind.

I do hate to think of Jones getting hurt being included in a "perfect" scenario, but I agree that would be pretty awesome. But really, if the injury is bad enough to keep him out for at least 5 weeks (4 postseason games + extra week before super bowl) it would have to be at least slightly "serious" if you think about it.

after this year. Yeah, I'm being selfish, but the thought of him in another uniform...ugh.
If Eli wants to play somewhere else next year, then all power to him. I have no problem seeing him with another team as long as it’s not in the division. Other all time great QBs played on other teams when they were at the end (Montana in KC, Unitas with the Chargers, Namath with the rams, Favre with the jets and Vikings, big bro Peyton with the Broncos, etc.)
would be an outright release. Eli can choose his landing spot whether that means on another team or his couch. While a trade is possible, it is complicated with draft pick compensation, waiving a NTC, and salary cap implications. A straight trade - and the new team picks up his salary while we receive a credit of unpaid salary. But a team like N.O./Jax may only need him for a short term to hold the fort until Brees/Foles returns. They may not want to commit to the remaining $10M. So then perhaps the Giants eat some salary in exchange for a higher pick to make the trade more amenable to the receiving team. It just gets too complicated.
I also feel his outright release is in the best interest of the team and Eli as mentioned here
Exactly this. I really hope he doesn’t play anywhere else. How brutal would it be to see him in that goofy Jaguar helmet?

I might be able to deal with the titans uniform. I’d root for him to win.

I think Eli is saying this because NO OTHER TEAM wants him.
The thought of Eli in any other jersey is weird. Hell, it was weird seeing Peyton in Orange.
