NFT: NY Rangers Preseason- the debuts of Kaapo Kakko and Breadman

Anakim : 9/18/2019 8:05 am
First game is tonight on MSG at 7:00 PM. We play New Jersey, but they decided not to play Jack Hughes because he's obviously terrified of Kakko embarrassing him. :)

We're going to be seeing the NHL debuts of Kakko, Kravtsov, Shesterkin, and Fox, and the Rangers debuts of Panarin and Trouba. So buckle up because it's going to be a fun ride!

Our projected lines for tonight's game:

PANARIN | ZIBANEJAD (A) | KAKKO
KREIDER (A) | ANDERSSON | KRAVTSOV
MCKEGG | O'REGAN | JONES
HALEY | NIEVES | ELMER

LD | RD
SKJEI | TROUBA
HAJEK | FOX
CRAWLEY | SMITH (A)

In Goal: Georgiev gets the start and Shesterkin is his backup and will see some time in net.

I'm excited and I hope you are too!
I'm going to try
Gman11 : 9/18/2019 8:29 am : link
to see if I can find a stream somewhere. I know it's just the first preseason game, but with the five big newcomers playing in this one (Kakko, Panarin, Fox, Trouba, Kravtsov) it's a must-see. I think when you subscribe to the Center Ice package preseason games should be included.
Wonder how that Fox/Hajek pair is going to look
figgy2989 : 9/18/2019 8:32 am : link
With Skjei and Trouba as the first pair, we don't have anyone over 25 in the top 4 Dmen.
Quinn also had a quote in Newsday today
figgy2989 : 9/18/2019 8:34 am : link
Not to get used to Kaako on that first line as the plan is still to have Buch there, but man, if Kaako is as advertised, how much fire power would that be on Line 1!

You have to think Z gets the C this year, right? Don't think they are going to give it to Staal. I guess if they do plan on locking Kreider up long term, he should also be considered.

arcarsenal : 9/18/2019 8:45 am : link
Mika definitely makes the most sense to don the "C" this year.

Looking forward to some Rangers hockey. Young, exciting team.
I like the Rangers moves and I'm looking forward, in particular, to

watching Kaapo after not watching the Rangers for a long time. I am wondering about our goaltenders. What do you guys think of them?
oh man, seeing the names on that first line is sexy

I don't think I've ever been this excited for a pre-season game. I'm not sure how good they will be this year, but they will be fun to watch
This game is being rebroadcast by the NHL Channel

at 11:30pm est tonite. Friday's rematch is being broadcast live by the NHL channel.

Call me crazy, but I think we have a great shot at the playoffs
I think they'll be in the hunt
Greg from LI : 9/18/2019 9:36 am : link
Might make it, might not, but they'll give us a lot of reasons to be hopeful for the future.
Quinn has the best attitude with the media

True
Anakim : 9/18/2019 10:15 am : link
We have more questions than answers as it pertains to this season. Can Lias,Chytil or Howden be the 2C we need? Can the Skjei-Trouba pairing be a legit. shut-down first-pair? Can Fox, Deangelo, Hajek play top-4 minutes? We know Staal can't.
Great stuff
Oskie : 9/18/2019 10:18 am : link
Can't wait for the season. I told my brother, who lives outside of Hartford that the best ticket in town is going to be the Wolfpack...go often, a lot of the Rangers future is going to be there.
Greg and Anakim
Ross : 9/18/2019 10:19 am : link
Agree that they should be in the hunt and wouldn't be surprised at all to see them towards the top of the division. But also wouldn't be surprised to see periods of struggling and have them fall short of the playoffs.

I'm hoping to see the kids develop so next year, the "next wave" can be integrated into the new core.
Well, the defense is still awfully shaky
Greg from LI : 9/18/2019 10:21 am : link
If they miss the playoffs, I would guess that's the biggest reason why.

Agreed. If we're in the hunt and Chytil, Lias and Howden don't step up, I could see us trading for a 2C
I saw somewhere that it is on ESPN+ of all places
DCOrange : 9/18/2019 11:33 am : link
And of course I canceled ESPN+ a week ago after never watching it.

If one finds a stream, can it be shared or does that go against the grain somehow, endangering the stream source?

First Row Sports is usually reliable
also google
ChaChing : 9/18/2019 6:45 pm : link
reddit nhl streams. im always a little worried about linking direct to a site for the reason you said...

NBA has been well aware of this for yrs, they are the first to shut it down :(

But still in many cases if you bookmark the homepage of the video pages once there, you can get to them regardless

Maybe. More than him, I only watched his first intro segment going into 1st intermission - thought Trautwig looked & sounded awful. I dunno if anything happened health-wise, hope not, but man oh man if not

Trautwig's teeth are downright scary

Al's teeth looked terrible, then he didn't exactly look good aside from that. I hope he's okay.
Meanwhile, Panarin tweaked his groin
Anakim : 9/18/2019 10:25 pm : link
Wouldn't surprise me if they sat him out all preseason
The teeth yeah, noticing that for at least a yr tho must be longer
ChaChing : 9/19/2019 12:38 am : link
but honestly this was like the first time you saw old guys on HD. But 1000x worse. And THEN he sounded like he was struggling w/ speech. Hopefully it's just a bad day if not preseason for him too
Hockey-wise half of NJ didn't play
ChaChing : 9/19/2019 12:44 am : link
but PP & extra man / no goalie looked real good. Not enough scores, but I think the first 3 alone they had 10-11 SOGs. Then near the end of the 2nd, a total of ~30. Iirc last yr they just couldn't / wouldn't get shots off

Now of course it seems a ton more talent on ice, be it obvious like Zibby, or new like Panarin or Trouba, or now a Kakko...that before any others show development or just are new / fringe guys that produce (was it McKegg today? Guy was everywhere when I was watching). Puck was moving, possession seemed improved even if the D still needs work, encouraging enough by eye test

If nothing else, fun enough game to watch for preseason, good that hockey is back here soon!
Yea it was entertaining especially for a pre-season game
Stu11 : 9/19/2019 10:05 am : link
As a Devs fan I loved what I saw out of Gusev. That guy is talented. Rangers top guys came as advertised. Kakko will be big time and we all know how talented Panarin is. Trouba looked real solid. Rangers pp looked very impressive though the Devs 3 best pk guys weren't there but the Rangers really showed great chemistry and puck movement. Schneider was really impressive and that's a huge factor for the Devs this year if they want to do anything.
The metro is just insane this year.
Mike in Long Beach : 9/19/2019 11:12 am : link
I think it's legitimately possible (though unlikely) the Penguins can finish in 7th place (with like 90 points).

Ya they talked up Gusev, and he didn't disappoint. Also NJD's 2nd or 3rd goal, forget the guy's name, but after an AWFUL NYR back pass he had that sick stick move and tucked it in just past the goalie's skate...pretty goal

ya in a real game I'd be pissed. Schneider was basically standing on his head there (big on NYR PPs too). End 2 NYR had ~30 SOG but not so many goals. Obviously yalls were missing half the team but for NYR that's nice to see...winning the SOG battle, solid puck movement, nice for PSG1

has signed and though I don’t have the terms, I’ve heard he took a bit of a haircut. This should round out the back line now.
If King was in net
Carl in CT : 9/20/2019 9:54 am : link
It was 3-1 Rangers easily. (And I’m down on the King). NJ at full strength (and it was their 3rd game) would have made it closer. Both teams look better.
I don't think any of NJ's
Jay in Toronto : 9/20/2019 10:25 am : link
goals were 'soft'.

Liked what I saw from Lias and look forward to seeing even more from Fil.

RFA Tony DeAngelo has agreed to terms with #NYR on a one-year deal worth $925,000 - same amount that Brendan Lemieux got last week.
This B team. Woof.
