Okay but lets be fair. If the loses are all on Eli then all future loses are on DJ.

OK lets talk about that. Since he won the Super Bowl they have not been able to field a quality team.. Admit it.. He has had less and less time in the pocket and up until Saquon had zero help in the backfield. Still has not TE that can block and has no rcvrs that can go and get open. Im not saying it isn't on him it is, he should have been more vocal about the shitshow they created. Look at the stats on int tipped and dropped passes and time from snap to throw. its hard to go down field when he has no time. go watch the past years tapes of the putrid OL. he had less than half a second before someone was in his face. That's what Gettleman saw and over paid for the LT he needed too do it. He finally has an OL that can give him a little time and no one is getting open. He got them back in the game the D cant hold.. they cant get off the field same story for 3 plus years now -Cant Cover the middle of the fucking Field!! for 5 yrs TE running lose because Reach didn't want to draft a LBr haha but yeah Eli sux.. tried to run Coughlin out of town while he was rebuilding this team into a monster. They pulled the same shit with the rug. Ohh Accorsi blew it with his trade for ELi remember that? Meanwhile He and Coughlin did build it and then a dumbass WR who was very immature put a bullet into his leg! They got that ring back and went downhill after that -changing the makeup of the team along the way.

Now here we are. We have a GM that is pretty good evaluator of talent. Let him do his job. The whiner fans need to stfu and let the man do his work then bitch all you want but wait for now. You cant compare the Giants to Dallas or Philly they actually had successful drafts the last 6 yrs! Go look at their rosters. Buy low sell high

a mediocre pass that could have been caught but could have been thrown better. that is not what this is about.
defenses have been able to easily scheme for the giants because they dont go deep and arent a threat if you get the QB out of the pocket. they bullrush upfield which puts additional pressure on the O-line... for quite some time.
its about getting Jones reps but also about seeing if having someone who might be able to pressure the defense more allows them to have more chances to make plays and have a more dynamic offense.
this is what they wanted to see in the debacle of 2017 as well... but they didnt have a backup worth putting in.

Nailed it.
Lastly Gettleman was right
Gettledogman : 9/18/2019 9:09 am : link
about Norman -wasn't worth the money. Cam was not a championship QB but was good for the gate. He knew his LB needed to be replaced but the dumbass owner was besties.

Look now he was right about Saquaon, he looks like he was right about drafting DJ at 6 because teams were going to take him.. it was a tough choice I wanted the Lbr too. But he made a decision and stuck with it.. that's what he is paid for. Now give him time to rebuild the D and add depth in 2 yrs if we aren't kicking ass than we can bitch.

This. For fuck's sake, since 2017 people are stuck on 'everyone's blaming Eli for everything'.

It's not that. Anyone with two brain cells to rub together doesn't think this move is trying to blame Eli or to see if Jones can produce a spark to catapult the team into the playoffs. Eli's not capable of carrying this team anywhere, and Jones needs the experience. It's as simple as that.

Manning has been playing QB for Giants for 15 years. We are on the eve of putting in the heir apparent and hopefully determine if there is a decent future in sight.

And yet your still entrenching yourselves about whether ONE incomplete pass was Eli's fault or the receiver.

classic...
I don't single Eli out for blame, and I'm not a big Jones believer

and even I am fine with the switch. Whatever else you can say about Eli in 2019, one thing is crystal clear. He's not winning games for the Giants. This team is going nowhere. He's 37 years old. They took a QB with the sixth overall pick in the draft, and they didn't do it to have him sit for an extended period of time. They have got to find out as soon as possible whether or not Daniel Jones can be an effective NFL quarterback.

Ok fair enough. The Cowboys scored 3 consecutive TDs and the game was over. He played the Bills with scrubs as WR's. If Eli played against Tampa and looked bad and lost, I'd be ok to make move. But I think we would have won so that would have postponed the change further. That's all I'm saying. I think the kid could use more time to learn. I wish him well.

I'm not comparing him to Mahomes, they are. That's the point. It's a stupid comparison. More than half the current starters didn't play those years.
Baldinger should really be ashamed to have put that
Tesla : 9/18/2019 9:55 am : link
video together. It's on the level of Soviet style propaganda. Choosing a misleading angle off the first throw (you can't see how high he throw actually was from the overhead angle) and picking out a couple of plays where his teammates let him down. Eli's protection was pretty good most of the day, but of course Baldy highlights two plays where it broke down to make it seem like Eli had no chance all day. That's just plain bullshit propaganda.

You could just as easily put together a tape of showing 3 of Eli's worst plays to say he's done.

You could literally make this type of video for every QB in the league to say it's impossible for them to succeed....cause guess what, not ever play in the NFL goes perfectly according to plan.

I like Baldy's videos but he's always had a strong pro-Eli bias, I don't think he's once made a video showing that Eli played poorly. He really embarrassed himself by putting this one together though.

it was not a well thrown ball, but not catchable? Please, it hit him in the hands, it was catchable. Now Eli should have made it an easy catch, Engram was open and the lane was clear. Bad throw, but still catchable that an NFL player responsible for catching things should have caught.

The points about that throw is
a) Eli put it exactly where it needed to be and it hit Engrams hands --
b) it was a little high but Engram was not off the ground and his hands made contact with it.
c) It's a catch a player of Engram's caliber has to make. He has to go up and get it.
d) Eli knew it and he accepted responsibility for the throw - and it deflated him visibly -- this series and the next one started a downward spiral

Lastly -- in the videos showing the receivers not getting separation - I think Jones creates a new element in that scenario -- he's a threat to run and keep the coverage guessing. If he can get a bite from one of the backs -- even just a slight one it may open up more plays. No one is afraid of Eli running as an option - no one.

hit the guy signed after being cut and made it a one score game.

Buffalo moves out of kill clock mode and proceeds down field to score. Mental error allows it to be seven. Seen that movie many times before. No matter, Eli is out now so there is no excuse magnet or scapegoat.

Good luck Pat.

Eli doesn't win as QB1 for the Giants anymore and has not for a long time. Personally, I still don't put him high up on the reasons why, but that is the bottom line. Very curious to see how things go now.

Also, some on here have posted Eli has no arm anymore. That I don't agree with. The Fowler drop on this video was a perfect pass and with authority. He aired out some desperation bombs in this one too with plenty on mustard on them. Week one Shepard dropped a TD that was thrown only where he could get it and with great velocity. He can make throws.

What will annoy me is if Pat "I still use as an excuse that I inherited a 3 - 13 team" Shurmur gets Barkley 25 30 carries and features him in the passing game this week. He should have been doing this all along. He seems philosophically opposed to it. Which is odd since when Gettlemen came on-board he was talking about the o line and power running.

Still waiting for that.

I'm not keen on re-signing EE. He doesn't high point, he doesn't breakaway, he's a skinny possession TE with questionable hands. He said his blocking is improved I guess.

As always, from Baldy. He’ll do the same for Daniel Jones, but I don’t think it will be called propaganda then. Shurmur and Gettleman won’t have a scapegoat anymore. They better pray the team improves. Or they’ll be coaching and GMing somewhere else next season.
A few things I noticed reading this thread ...
BronxBob : 9/18/2019 12:37 pm : link
Some of these things have already been addressed in individual posts, thanks, but what struck me reading through it all is: It seems like a lot of people (from both sides of the argument, actually) point out that Baldinger was "selective" -- yet a lot of them lean their arguments in this thread on just one or two factors, without a reasonable perspective of the conditions Eli has been working under. Also, though not entirely missing, there is very little discussion of the current coaching staff in this thread; there's plenty about the GM, enough about McAdoo -- but not much about Shurmur and Shula ... and Bettcher. It's time to move forward with Jones? Okay. Because Eli's results aren't as good as they used to be? Okay. But if to get to that conclusion you lay what Eli's been capable of producing (lately and still) entirely and exclusively on him ... well, that just looks like a whole lot of agenda and not much perspective or analytical ability. I wonder: Do you care at all about the people on the team -- or only W vs. L numbers?

And once again I am driven nuts by the fact that everyone blames Eli for all of the offensive woes. It's actually sickening.

That said, this is clearly less about Eli and more about waving the white flag based on what they see on the roster as a whole for this year. They are passing the torch early enough to see what the kid has, doing it against weaker defenses than we have seen so far for better confidence, and starting to season him (if he actually has "it"). I'm probably the biggest Eli supporter here but it's tough to argue against starting Jones if you are raising the white flag and admitting we still have a lot of work to do on the roster.
and Allen was much better than advertised around here. Reminds me of a young Terrry Bradshaw.

and even I am fine with the switch. Whatever else you can say about Eli in 2019, one thing is crystal clear. He's not winning games for the Giants. This team is going nowhere. He's 37 years old. They took a QB with the sixth overall pick in the draft, and they didn't do it to have him sit for an extended period of time. They have got to find out as soon as possible whether or not Daniel Jones can be an effective NFL quarterback.
good post.
Eli was better when he was throwing more ints

He’s gun shy now. His lows last longer and his highs aren’t as frequent or prolific. Eli wasn’t going to survive another slow start to the season like last year. He might have gotten hot at some point, like last year, but it’s time for the kid to play.

Eli also seems to pick the wrong time to miss a wr or miss a play all together. His timing really has been terrible the last few years. Can’t deny it anymore. When we really really needed a play and a play could have been made, it didn’t happen. Its fair to say that Eli’s margin for error was smaller than most, maybe, but I’m real curious to see a new qb.

at every level.. Eli has a better OL, better RB.. Better TE.. heck may be even better WR over the first 2 games.. that Keenum has performed better than Eli so far this year..

Eli - Passer rating 78.7.. QBR - 30..
Keenum - Passer rating 111.2 ... QBR - 68.7..

Eli is near the bottom of the league.. He is worse than K Murray.. Brissett .. Gardner Minshew.. so yes his wr have missed some passes.. his OL has missed some blocks.. but remember this is the NFL and every body has WR that miss passes and OL that miss blocks..
Watch the video. Who do you see getting open? The Giants receivers are the worst in the League and it's not close.

When should I be on the look out for Baldinger's break down of all the good plays Manning made?

I watch that and see a back drop a pass, a TE miss a tough but catchable throw, and a WR cough up a ball where he got completely destroyed and came up gimpy. I see a handful of snaps where the QB was under pressure.

Is this really abnormal for a football game?
that tape exemplifies why I'd have waited a few more weeks

The WR's stink and I'd prefer if Jones has Tate and Shep available to him when he gets in there.

Side note- Halapio is a bum.
Baldy's right

I think the hope is that DJ may be more productive simply because he is an actual threat with his legs. He could occasionally get a first down and scramble in the pocket. Defense will have to keep an eye on him where with Eli, they don't bother.
Eli is still good/No he's not he stinks

on and on...

Who cares. Eli has been Mr. Irrelevant for 2 years now. The team was never going to be competitive this year, there was never enough talent for that to happen. They are still extremely unlikely to be an upper echelon team next year also. There was a time last year that I said that the Giants are worse off than an expansion team. Expansion teams may not have starter quality players, but they have decent depth. The Giants had neither. It takes time to accumulate good players. Eli was never going to be here by the time the process was complete enough for the Giants to be competitive. At this point, the sooner DJ is gotten ready the better. I am a bit surprised at making the move after 2 games, especially since the fault is really the defense. I have great respect for Eli, and love what he did to carry the team to 2 SBs, but the Giants are not a good team, and won't be for a while. There is no "winning" scenario for Eli anymore. He is Mr. Irrelevant.

I have many disagreements with how this team is managed, or rather mis-managed. I would not have drafted an RB at #2, I would not have drafted a QB just yet. I would not have signed Beckham and traded him. I would not have signed Tate or Bethea. There seems to be this weird mix in the Giant's FO of win now and rebuild at the same time. You know the old saying, try to please everybody and you end up pleasing nobody. By not just biting the bullet and focusing on the rebuild, they are making it take longer. This means that, although I would not have drafted SB and D, they are here now and this hybrid approach is potentially wasting their rookie contracts.
In short

Everybody is worrying about this or gleefully anticipating a turn around in the teams fortunes.

Both sides are over thinking it.

The Giants are still going to suck, and its time to get DJ ready to play so he is ready when the rest of the team doesn't suck. Any time wasted worrying about whether Eli is good/bad/or in the middle pointless.
I watched that Engram play again

Clear drop, it went through his hands.

That other angle in this video makes it clear. Big miss in the game. Engram has to step up as a money player.
