Please Remember Eli's First Game - Support your new QB

SteelGiant : 9/18/2019 8:17 am
Time to open a new chapter in Giants history. I ask the fans to not jump of the bridge at the first sign of adversity for Daniel Jones. It is time to support your new quarterback. In case you forgot what that could look like or do not remember Eli's first game, Here you go.

I really think most

Fans will be ok with the first game. It's when they lose their patience later when they feel the qb hasn't made the progress they think he should have made. That's the time where it's best to question our own thinking.
Good thread, but don't be too disappointed if fans continue to be

It took him a few years.
Unrealistic

We have clearly seen what a mirage pre-season turned out to be. Do we really think it will be different with DJ? Folks here seem to think he runs like Micheal Vick when in fact he's only moderately more athletic than a young Eli.

No. I obviously think people will uproar hence why I started the thread. I have trouble staying on game threads because of all the crazy over-reactions to every play.

Point was there is probably a generation of Giants who do not remember what it looks like when a rookie starts their favorite team. Even one who eventually wins 2 Super Bowls.
The thing that Jones has going for him
Matt in SGS : 9/18/2019 8:59 am : link
while he's replacing a legend at QB for the Giants, let's not pretend that Eli has been tearing it up for years and the Giants have been winning. I'd argue that Dave Brown had a tougher job replacing Simms than Jones will have replacing Eli. This organization has had a losing record 5 of the last 6 years and will do so again this year. While we all agree it's not Eli's fault that this happened and there were a million factors (bad OL, poor coaching, inconsistent defense, etc) Eli wasn't exactly lighting it up out there.

Simms finished 1993 as a Pro Bowler and on an 11 win team. Jones isn't following up that kind of production. This isn't a shot at Eli, it's reality. The Giants need new blood out there and really need to see what Jones has. I think the fans will be encouraging. The majority get what's going on here. And I also expect that Eli will be what he always is, a class act and a great teammate and he is going to help Jones get ready to play and will help as the game is being played.

pre-season wasn't a mirage. The starters didn't look good then either when playing against other starters.

Fuckit - I'm starting DJ in FF this week.

300 yds 3 TDs in the air and another 40 on the ground.

I never understood how people participate in those game threads. Maybe its just me because I like watching the game and not having any distractions. I just can't understand how you can post and watch the game at the same time. To each their own.

Lol, here goes nothing! Brandon London called me a jock sniffer or something so the battle lines have been drawn! Except he doesn't understand that I'm rooting to be wrong.
Interesting to watch.

Eli was alot more mobile then. The fact that he was always perceived as immobile may have desensitized us to his decline. Like we grew old with him and didn't notice the subtle changes....

I didn’t want the Giants to draft Jones...

and still have major doubts.

But let’s get this new era going and commit to Jones for the rest of the season. Which I wish Shurmur had done yesterday.

I’m ready for the ups and downs. Let’s get the Jones Watch underway so we can determine as quickly as possible if Jones is the solution.
I don't think anyone is rooting against Jones
mikeinbloomfield : 9/18/2019 9:17 am : link
I continue to believe the drafting Jones that high was a mistake because the stats he put up in college didn't justify it. I will be happy to be wrong. Jones is an important early piece of the rebuild, and if they got this wrong its back to the drawing board.

He may be a good QB, but his preseason is probably not the indicator of that. Go look up how great Blake Bortles looked his rookie year in preseason.

100%. He was considered more like Archie than Payton as far as mobility. That's the main difference, he was never a runner but he was elusive and could improvise. He lost that ability a few years ago.
He actually looked better than I remembered. More mobile
Blue21 : 9/18/2019 9:20 am : link
than I recalled too. Hope Jones looks this good.
He's going to get this year without any questions from
jcn56 : 9/18/2019 9:25 am : link
most people. I thought Jones was a huge reach, and I'm hoping to be proven wrong and that he extends the play he put out during the preseason.

This team is still awful all around him, so even a few stinkers won't look all that bad. When Eli took over from Warner they had managed a winning record and Warner was a SB winner. There were at least some expectations back then. Right now, the Giants have set the bar for lowest expectations outside of Miami.

Until the 2007 playoffs, Eli was widely considered a disappointment.

Going into and during the beginning of the Bills game in 2007 there was a lot of talk about moving on from Eli after the season. Trent Edwards and the Bills took a 14-0 or 17-0 lead in that game which only increased the noise.

The Giants came storming back to blow the Bills out and the rest is history.

This is BBI,
Big Blue '56 : 9/18/2019 9:34 am : link
there will be little patience. Expect in no order of importance, the following:

.”I can’t believe we spent a 6 on him.”

.”I said all along this guy’s average at best.”

.”They benched Eli for this guy?”

.”He stares down his receivers.”

.”The guy has no arm.”

There will be others, but this is an absolute on here, usually under the guise of, “I call it as I see it, I don’t drink the Kool-Aid. Sorry if that ruffles the feathers of the homers on here.”

You may read the above as early as this Sunday’s game thread.

First incompletion some here will be rewinding the play and yelling about Jones missing other WR's who were more open. Then they will starting yelling for Tua or Herbert.

Let's just root for the kid please

With all due respect, I believe it will come from the usual game thread trolls regardless of their leanings, but mostly from those who are still pissed we took SB over Darnold last year and had the gall to take DJ at 6.
And no,

I really don't think these types of posters exist. Perhaps a microscopic amount in comparison to the large number of posters.

If you don't think there will be quite a few brutal takes on Jones' performance by just the ones that are prone to complaining about everything to go a long with thinking they know more than they do then I would say you don't pay a lot of attention to the game threads which is a good thing for you.
