Cam comes off as a dick in his press conferences but he’s done so much for that team, community and youth football in the area. Finebaum was way off base. Cam - ( New Window )
might help if he stopped dressing like a middle aged woman Â
It's almost like hes blindly trying to defend "the black quarterback".
Cam cant run the ball like he used to and he was never a great quarterback.
I dont get why he can throw Eli under the bus with no problem but gets mad when someone throws Cam under the bus, makes zero sense, Cam sucks right now and so does Eli, but one is a great teammate, leader and champion.

Your completely missing his point. Finebaum said Cam hasn’t cared about anyone but himself, has ruined the Panthers and doesn’t deserve any sympathy.
Cam gave his body for that team, took them to a Super Bowl and is great in the community. Just because he’s a dick to the media doesn’t mean he doesn’t deserve sympathy.
He’s absolutely right that if Cam has “ruined” the Panthers - 4 years away from a 15-1 Super Bowl appearance and two years away from an 11-5 season, than you have to hold Eli to that standard too.
Was cam a great QB? Debatable in the traditional sense, but he was a great football player.

Sympathy for Cam, yet you mock people sympathizing for Eli.
I don't when you should be sympathetic for a player, but I do find this interesting considering you see yourself as objective when it comes to Manning.
who despises the Giants for cutting him back in the day. His vendetta against the Giants and more specifically Eli is so transparent, it's comical. Playing along side Troy Polamalu made him into a serviceable safety. Otherwise he would have been out of the NFL a long time ago and not have a spot on ESPN spewing his bullshit.

I think the Panthers have to be very worried about Newton. He looked horrible last Thursday. His mechanics were as bad as ever and it looked at times as if he was throwing an anvil. So Finebaum has a point there.
I don't know about the selfish piece. I certainly get the impression that Newton may spend more time on his ensemble than the playbook. But who knows...
I'll say this - the league has done a horrible job protecting him. He's taken more shots in the pocket that didn't draw a roughing flag than probably any QB in the league. It's almost like the league has treated him like the NBA treated Shaquille O'Neal.

Cam is definitely done I think, and his contract hasn’t had guaranteed salary since 2017 so they’re only on the hook for $2 million if they want to move on and draft a QB.
Eli has been one of the better Giants (at least top 5?) during that whole time. Now, that's a problem as well because it means there was little else there but the "little else there" was the main problem, not Eli.
RE: might help if he stopped dressing like a middle aged woman Â
his bias is evident when discussing them. He was one of the harshest critics of the Daniel Jones pick. After Jones' preseason performance he had the nerve to claim that you can't judge a pick before he plays in a real game whether they play well or not yet he had no issue bashing Jones right after the draft before he played in a game.

He made it known that he was angered by the Giants telling him that they didn't think he could play CB in the NFL. They either told him he couldn't make it at CB or S I forget which position. They also released him.
Literally everything ever out his mouth is bashing the organization. Even what is totally unwarranted. I actually like him as an analyst except when it comes to the Giants. It is pretty clear if you watch him on ESPN.
is that he never learned how to play the passing part of the game. He depended so much on being an athletic mismatch as a QB that his passing game suffered.

Thanks, Jay. Like I mentioned to Zeke, I couldn't recall the specifics...

Mostly agree. I thought Turner's arrival would be the best thing that happened to Cam. Maybe it's the physical erosion, but it doesn't appear to be working.
RE: I'm just asking because I just don't recall... Â
I figured it may have something to do with his departure back in 2003. But wanted to hear specifics...
I don't know why he is so angry still. The Redskins moved him to safety and he went on to have a solid career there and in Pittsburgh. He obviously benefited greatly in Pittsburgh playing with Polamalu and with all their other talent.
is that he never learned how to play the passing part of the game. He depended so much on being an athletic mismatch as a QB that his passing game suffered.
This is a major problem of a lot of these athlete QB's and why you are seeing more and more of them becoming more passers in college and even high school. The development of a QB is years in the making. You can't just turn it on when you get to the pros.
RE: Clark may be a douche, but was he wrong about Â
Go rewatch that Niners 2012 NFC Championship game. You think Eli’s soft or refuses to take hits? And what was his point about Belichick/ making him make that throw to Manningham? Was that supposed to be an insult because that was one of the great throws of all time.
And how did Cam do in that super bowl? What did he do when the ball was loose on the ground? This guy is a clown.
because he makes himself that way. He likes being unique, and that doesn't play well when a team loses. But you need to separate on-the-field Cam with off-the-field Cam.
On-the-field, he is selfish, has had run in's with teammates, has given less than optimal effort, and is aloof in the locker room.
Off-the-field, he's done a lot for the youth football programs and doesn't get into trouble.
You can be both a good citizen and still be a pretty difficult player.

Well said, people have trouble separating otherwise good people can be unlikeable assholes, just like the flip side can be true (see Lawrence Taylor).

Completely agree with this take. Finebaum is an ass for making it personal - Cam didn't "ruin" the Panthers, he just got hurt and is not the player he used to be. Maybe it's his shoulder and it needs more time to heal, but the NFL is rough even for guys as big and strong as Cam.
Instead he needs to dress like a middle aged men from the 90s by sporting some hip jorts...haha.
C'mon Greg, you know you don't buy a quality pair of jorts, you Daisy Duke your own.
That take was pretty stupid.
