I am obviously talking a very small part, he obviously wants to play but do you think there is a part of him that is happy it is over and relieved the pressure is finally off...
First time in 16 years he can finally just relax and have no pressure
locker yesterday. It sure as hell wasn't like last time. I compare it to when you get in trouble and the worst part is waiting for your punishment and than it happens and you realize the worst part was the anxiety of what would happen. He almost look relieved at his locker.
He's a competitor & it probably kills him he'll be holding the clipboard, even if he puts on a brave front.
Oh I agree with this once they are out there on the field it will kill him, but I do think a part of him is relieved that its over and he doesn't have to deal with all questions week in and week out.
he's happy at the fact he doesn't have to answer 1,000 questions each week about the shadow of DJ being behind him. His thoughts on being replaced. His job security constantly being on the line.
Now he gets to just sit back, maybe, and think "Okay, lets see if someone else can make chicken salad out of chicken shit".

My guess is that the circumstances are so different than last time, his reactions and emotions are different. Daniel Jones is no Geno Smith*
*if he is, DG should be fired immediately.
RE: To think this slow footed QB never got injured, Â
I understand your thought, but I don’t think he is relieved either. I kinda take his closest friends as a measuring stick, and O’Hara was disappointed and frustrated. I could see Eli sharing these emotions privately.
The part that gets about $800,000 a week injected into his bank account
The money thing and Eli (distinct from the cap questions) is huge with some people. To the point where it is certainly a smear. There's been no evidence whatsoever that Eli is driven by venality.
He could retire if he wanted to but plays because he wants to, so passing the torch is probably upsetting but at the same time he knew it was going to happen soon with Jones
These guys are sol highly, ULTRA competitive that they want to play until they go out toes-up.
From the fan POV, I hope I never have to see him wear another team's uniform, but sadly, I think it's more likely he'll probably play elsewhere next year.

I wasn't taking a shot a Eli I say good for him in fact. I just think worrying about his "happiness" is misguided.

I actually think he retires. He would probably only get a backup job at this stage of his career and I can’t see him sticking around just for thay
2 years ago, he had to be shocked that he was being benched for Geno Fucking Smith, but he saw it coming this time, he said as much yesterday. There is no scenario in which he is even the slightest bit relieved.
Hey, but it's an exciting time. We get to watch the start of a new, and hopefully long, era. I'm looking forward to it.
It's hard to admit you're not at your peak and can't get to it.
Watching the highlight videos really makes it obvious, he can't make those throws or even run anymore. He's a lot slower moving and processing. He's made some impossible throws and he's easily the best Giants QB. He also carried the team in the first run, but Father Time is undefeated.
by that definition, there are zero unhappy NFL players now or int he history of the sport.
I agree with this (despite my constant bemoaning poor cap allocation). And while I do tend to focus on cap hits and have mentioned more than a few dozen times over the years that Eli is the highest paid player in NFL history, I don't begrudge the man his money. I'd hire Tom Condon myself if I had reason to.
Eli is very fortunate because of the money he's earned. That's not the same as happy.
It would be a complete about face for him to be happy while losing his job. I'm sure he gets it, and knew this day would come. He knew it would happen at some point this season, and may have even expected it after the game on Sunday. But I can't imagine a single shred of him is happy.
He's a professional. He treats wins and losses the same.
I'm sure his healthy growing family makes him extremely happy. Football comes second.
Sure, but that's not in any way related. It's not like he's happy about his family because he lost his job. Do you think he's the type of person who lacks perspective?

Eli is an iron man

He almost certainly has had a few concussions.

Do hot dog eating competitions count?
