What I want is a competitive team that fights and wins while getting their young players experience, hopefully changing the on field results which will improve the culture in the locker room.
I also would like for our team to select the best player available regardless of where we are drafting. The idea is to load up your team with good players at every position.

I think you should pick a much better example than the Browns. Sure, they drafted Baker and won (7) games last year, but before that they also drafted Myles Garrett, Denzel Ward, and with their trade downs was able to pick up a bunch of important pieces...five 1st round picks in in 2017 and 2018, and an extra 2nd in 2018, and so on, and allowed them to trade a first round pick for an elite talent in OBJ because they had assembled enough talent elsewhere and had their franchise QB in place.
The key is to get the most out of those picks. But if you look at what the Giants have objectively, they still need a lot of help. They don't have an elite pass rusher, Solder's play is league average and he's getting long in the tooth, and LT is a CRITICAL position. Remmers will likely need a successor soon, and the have a huge hole at WR.
This team isn't going to the playoffs this year, even if Jones is a star. The defense won't hold up, there are too many young players going through growing pains, and not enough playmakers on both sides of the ball.
I'd rather trade wins this year for sustained winner that is a perennial playoff contender by 2021.
