Best case scenario:
1. Jones plays well and sparks the offense to 30+ points
2. Things start clicking for the young D: Baker, Ximenes, Carter, Peppers, Ballentine, Haley, Lawrence, Hill, etc
3. Giants grab a wild card spot in 2019
but at 0-2, I hope he plays well and they win. The season may be trending toward a complete dumpster-fire record wise, but I'm so starved to be excited about NYG games that I'll wait to root for the draft position until we're further in the rabbit hole.
Let's see DJ play well and the defense pull their head out of their ass against a Bucs passing attack that is equipped to light them up. A win and those two things happening is the best case.

I care much less about draft positioning now that we already drafted the QB.
The Giants need to start winning games. Enough of this bullshit.
We are 2 games into the season. Everyone should be hoping Jones provides a spark and that the defense starts playing better football. Everyone here should be rooting for NYG to win on Sunday.
and a win for the best case scenario. I know the D is a mess but Tampa is a winnable game which is probably why they chose to put DJ in now. Tampa and Washington are his best chance then we have 2 tough games against legit playoff teams.
I dont think anyone in the organization wants anything but a win with DJ playing well.
Is not yet rebuilt. And even with the young players recently drafted, there's no way the Giants have a championship caliber roster.
If the Giants are somehow drafting 2 or maybe 3, and a franchise QB is coveted at that spot, the Giants could get a haul for that pick that could help put this team over the top for years. The return would be, based on previous trades, at least two #1's, a 2nd rounder, possibly a little more. This team still needs a real threat at WR, OT help, and more than anything, a legitimate, feared defensive presence at pass rusher.
DG has done pretty well with the resources he has had up to this point, but with the holes still on the roster, there is still a ways to go to catch the Eagles and Cowboys, even if Daniel Jones pans out.
I don't think losing this year is a bad thing for the long-term interests of the franchise, provided they can leverage a losing season into a scenario like that described above (obviously not a given).

This captures the theory well.
The long term success of this team - any team - is tied to the competency of the QB. That's what we're trying to discern. And the sooner the better because if Jones is trending to "bust", we can pivot sooner.
Frankly, I've resigned myself to a poor year, largely driven by this swiss cheese D, so I'll take one side of the ball showing progress with a new QB being the reason...
Do you think the Browns cared about their draft pick for this year? Â
They had a history of losing and once they inserted Baker and they started winning games, they could give two shits where they finished in the draft order.
The Giants should feel the same way here. Jones develops and they win games, gives some sort of optimism for next year. Especially when they will have cap money to spend in Free Agency.
I know that’s essentially impossible and 2-14 is far more likely, but I can’t start focusing on the draft in Week 3. Will just hope it goes well for DJ.

You want them to progress and win games ... we have money for FA ... we don't need more low draft picks ... good players can be found all rounds if you scout well
I am done with hoping we draft high in each round Â
What I want is a competitive team that fights and wins while getting their young players experience, hopefully changing the on field results which will improve the culture in the locker room.
I also would like for our team to select the best player available regardless of where we are drafting. The idea is to load up your team with good players at every position.
Drafting top 10 every year is getting very shitty.

Is it in place?
I like Lawrence. But can anyone say Baker, Beal, Love Ballantine and Peppers are the core of s successful
Secondary. Jury is still out
Plus the Ol is mostly old guys. So I don’t see a young core st all

I think you should pick a much better example than the Browns. Sure, they drafted Baker and won (7) games last year, but before that they also drafted Myles Garrett, Denzel Ward, and with their trade downs was able to pick up a bunch of important pieces...five 1st round picks in in 2017 and 2018, and an extra 2nd in 2018, and so on, and allowed them to trade a first round pick for an elite talent in OBJ because they had assembled enough talent elsewhere and had their franchise QB in place.
The key is to get the most out of those picks. But if you look at what the Giants have objectively, they still need a lot of help. They don't have an elite pass rusher, Solder's play is league average and he's getting long in the tooth, and LT is a CRITICAL position. Remmers will likely need a successor soon, and the have a huge hole at WR.
This team isn't going to the playoffs this year, even if Jones is a star. The defense won't hold up, there are too many young players going through growing pains, and not enough playmakers on both sides of the ball.
I'd rather trade wins this year for sustained winner that is a perennial playoff contender by 2021.
At this point the team needs to get better and win Â
I’d more concerned with draft pick placement if the QB of the future wasn’t already in place. This also assumes Jones can actually fulfill the duties of the position
1. Jones plays well and sparks the offense to 30+ points
2. Things start clicking for the young D: Baker, Ximenes, Carter, Peppers, Ballentine, Haley, Lawrence, Hill, etc
3. Giants grab a wild card spot in 2019
I'm not saying that's the case....but it would be great for the Giants if it turns out to be the case.

Yup.
I didn't read it that way initially but the OPs weird post makes a lot more sense now.
It would really suck if Baker doesn't get any better. Moving up a couple slots on draft day wont make up for whiffing on one of last years 1s

Yep, lots of that around here
1. Jones plays well and sparks the offense to 30+ points
2. Things start clicking for the young D: Baker, Ximenes, Carter, Peppers, Ballentine, Haley, Lawrence, Hill, etc
3. Giants grab a wild card spot in 2019
Exactly

Hell, if Jones get us back in the race then they can put Eli back in for the playoffs and run that 2007/2011 magic...
Either they got it right or we reboot in 2 - 3 years ... the team is young they need time to develop
It almost seem impossible, but yet it is.
