Sterling Shepard somehow getting a pass in his 4th year

Fyi13579 : 9/19/2019 11:01 am
It was his job to step up in Game 1 and prove he can lead the WR corps and be a #1 WR...he failed miserably. Nonexistent, can't get open at all.

Unavailable for Game 2, his frail self injured again.

When is Shepard going to show he is nothing more than a mediocre dime-a-dozen JAG? This guy is small, slow, can't separate, and makes no plays.

Not 1 Giants fan or person has called out Sterling Shepard for being a no-show in Year 4. Puzzling for a #40 overall pick drafted over Top 5 WR Michael Thomas.

Sheppard = JAG.
Sometimes better players are drafted later than others
regulator : 9/19/2019 11:08 am : link
it happens.

Corey Coleman, Will Fuller, Josh Doctson and Laquon Treadwell were drafted before Shepard. If the 2016 draft is re-done, do you think *any* of them come off the board before Shepard? Nope.

Concussion does not make someone injury prone.

premise that shep is average, and i was honestly surprised when they signed him to a long-term deal.
I don't disagree w the OP

SS is a good slot receiver, nothing more, nothing less, imo.

Just to start this thread.
I don't think he's a JAG, but Shep needs to step up too
V.I.G. : 9/19/2019 12:07 pm : link
Concussions are random, so no fault there.

Let's hope to see a difference maker when he returns.

Assuming he gets on the field. So you're blaming him for being frail for getting concussed? Are you stupid? 2 games and he's a bust? He only played in ONE. Are you stupid? Are you THAT stupid?

Very strong, at least upper body. Solid production but missing that something that Cruz and Smith had.
Troll aside...
Giant John : 9/19/2019 12:39 pm : link
Our wide receiver team is a weakness on this team. Shepard is JAG. I have a feeling next years draft will include a couple wide receivers and we will see what that brings.

Prefer they keep draft capital for D.
DavidinBMNY : 9/19/2019 1:03 pm : link
They still need talent at Edge and LB to be a competitive defense. The defense is unwatchable - it is that bad.

The last top 15 pick on Defense was Apple who is somehow hanging on with the Saints. I can't recall a really high impact drafted defensive player since JPP where teams had to plan to contain someone.

Giving Shepard an extension looks to be a monumental mistake. The guy isn't a very good receiver.
Shephard has value
Torrag : 9/19/2019 1:16 pm : link
His game has strengths(excellent blocker) and weaknesses(lacks big play ability). He's a high character guy. I think those are fair statements. I wouldn't have paid him as much as his new contract. There is an 'out' in the deal after 2021 where he would have earned $24M and carries a $4M dead cap hit.

Note to self

Your parents made a monumental mistake September.
Nobody but fans expected him to step in as the #1 role
Matt M. : 9/19/2019 2:30 pm : link
He is not a #1 WR. He is a solid #2/slot receiver. They signed Tate to be a stop-gap #1.

SS has been a mild disappointment, but hopes were too high.
Big Blue Blogger : 9/19/2019 2:50 pm : link
He’s the rare player who is exactly what the draftnik consensus said he would be. Hard to complain too much when a player comes precisely as advertised. Did anyone really expect him to be Antonio Brown, or even Hollywood Brown? Sure, he was drafted ahead of Thomas, but Thomas was a gamble who has performed at the high end of his low floor / high ceiling projection. Shepard was a safe, dull pick, and has played like one.
