‘The Giants’ offense will change dramatically' Manning and the offense averaged just 15.5 points per game and had converted only 5-of-23 third downs in the first two games. The Giants offense ranked No. 27 in the league in scoring. “I think it could change dramatically," Lande said. “This is a kid who has the ability to not just get rid of the football quickly, but get rid of it with real velocity and accuracy.” Over the past several seasons, Manning’s arm strength had diminished -- especially on throws outside the numbers. Conversely, Jones showed a propensity during the preseason to fit the ball into tight windows and had pinpoint accuracy on back-shoulder throws, particularly along the sideline. “I think it’s going to open up the whole field for them, both vertically and horizontally," Lande said. "They’re going to be able to hit those quick outs on the far side very easily, now. He’s going to be able to stretch things with quick intermediate throws, like the 7-to-15 yard dig-routes, those 18-yard curls, out-routes. He’s going to be able to hit those fast.” |

Shonka expects Jones’ ability to extend plays from the pocket and use his legs as a weapon will be the biggest improvement he brings to the GIants’ offense. “Eli was just a real smart pocket guy,” Shonka said. "Daniel’s a better athlete than Eli. His ability to put pressure outside the pocket on a defense, he can do that on bootlegs and waggles that Eli couldn’t really do. Nobody was ever afraid of Eli running, either. He can run for positive yardage.” When Shurmur was the head coach of the Vikings, quarterback Case Keenum excelled on run-pass options. Jones’s mobility and athleticism has the chance to add that element to a Giants offense that features a potent supporting cast around. “Once teams can see that Daniel can run, like really run,” the NFL scout said. “People are going to start worrying about that a little more. His mobility’s going to open up some stuff for Saquon (Barkley), for Evan Engram, and he’ll be able to play off that because he’s a very accurate quarterback." |
Like a great hitter who tries to do it all with one swing. Diminished production follows.

My guess is his summer outing was no fluke
Just hope he remains protected, healthy and keeps the running to a bare minimum. Not worth the risk
If you read the Walther football scouting report on Jones they said nothing about a lack of arm strength. They did say he was on of the best QB options and would likely go in the 1st round.
The arm strength rumor was hen cackling
Phil Simms used to drill the outlet pass at his WRs and RBs and the balls were somewhat un-catchable unless you were Houdini or that guy who catches live bullets in his teeth. Eli also drills the outlet pass. Neither Phil or Eli has the "touch" Jones has showed
We will see what he's got Sunday or at least have a more realistic opinion
TB has an excellent D
I think thats a legit critique
He should not be taking off like that in meaningless moments anyway
Smart QBs who can run only do so as a last resort
Maybe we can get Coughlin to do a Video call and teach him to hold it high and tight on his chest with both hands
worked with Tiki
No.
There were a number of analysts who before the draft he has average arm talent. It was either or above average from most guys. But never in the Lauletta territory.
Eli still makes a lot of mistakes that he did in his early years. Troy Aikman said it week 1. The difference is in the past, he was cold blooded assassin who gave zero fucks. He made great plays which made you overlook some of his errors

Finesse and Eli are not two words that go together. DJ8 has shown it so far.
yeah really, first Jones was boo'd as a joke of a reach. Four pre season games later it is like he has become the blue chippiest of blue chip prospects. Killer arm, great placement, mobility, poise, heart and brains.
We will see
is light years better if he has to run but he has
to learn how to take shots in the pocket and protect
himself and especially the ball .
He also has to know when to go down we didn't draft him
to run the ball but it will be an obvious improvement
over Eli . Tampa also has a very good defense
I still wish we took Hargreaves but whats done is done .
Jones spent most of his time throwing to TJ Jones, Bennie Fowler, Russell Shepard, and Darius Slayton when he was actually healthy. With all of the injuries to the WR position most of these guys will be getting snaps against TB. At least Jones is familiar with them. I expect a career day for TJ Jones.
