I realized today that football threads have a pattern.
The first 20 or so threads comment on the OP.
The next set of threads respond to comments made in
the first set.
The next set include an original new comment
The next set include some posters going back and forth with each other arguing the same points, with some name calling and bringing up comments made elsewhere
The final set is two posters name calling each other
I’m sure someone with a psychology background can say what this all means.
Yes - and I also forgot about when the thread becomes about an entirely different topic. For example, OP is about Daniel Jones and then discussion is about Giants D in the 90s.
I was thinking of Short Lease. Feel bad for him, but he has a tendency to show up late and the thread is alreday dead.
This occurs because the poster fails to read the entire thread. Much like a witness testifying about something in a document they admit they have not read, but should have.....
Maybe cap a thread after 25 posts? Keeps it focused. If someone wants to take it off the rails, they would have to start a new thread, and everyone else can avoid that tangent
i find myself mostly reading the first dozen comments of a thread.

this is a stupid idea. you're stupid.
(sorry, just testing what happens if someone jumps right to the name calling).
The thread remains in read-only mode.
This might be a nice feature for BBI.

BBI already has this feature, only mods can use it.
I wonder if they could make the reply function ONLY include the last post
