Thoughts on this upcoming season?

I am pretty happy with the additions. I think the Canes have three good goalies going into this season with Mrazek, Ned and Reimer.

Even without Williams back (for now) the team seems to be going in the right direction. First time in a long time. A solid veteran core that are role players and some really good young talent. There is a lot of speed on this team.

The roster seems solid enough that if they do end up trading Faulk it will not be a huge blow to them and could be very good depending on what they can get back.

I am cautiously optimistic for the first time in years.

What say you?

Retirement leaves a huge leadership void. I suspect Slavin would be the best candidate to become the new captain. Hurricanes shored up their defense. I see no reason why they can’t once again have a legit shot at the cup.

I expect the Canes will have another very good season again

and at least make the playoffs because Rod Brind'Amour is the type of coach that will not let them get the least bit complacent from last years lofty achievements. As for naming the team captain, I don't know if Jacob Slavin has the personality (he certainly is the most skillful) yet to command the lockerroom or the team on the ice. However if Brind'Amour names him the captain, then apparently he has. It will be interesting to see which of the young players will stay with the team for the start of the season.

You may be right about Slavin, we’ll see. They may just go the multiple “A” route. I believe a couple years ago Jordan Staal and Justin Faulk were in the leadership group, but to me Jordan is also not vocal enough, and he’s at the age where he misses a lot of games. With Faulk likely traded before or during the trade deadline, I don’t really see many other candidates. As I said earlier, Williams is really going to be missed, on the ice and in the locker room.
Hurricanes may be a candidate as one of those teams that has a great regular season, then flops in the playoffs. Hope not.
Probably won’t get much well wishes from Habs fans

Aho
Gardner

But pj might not be too upset by the offseason Hab frustrations. After all, they didn’t pony up enough for Aho.

Yeah, so it seems.....I hate that you counted on them to do your negotiating. I wish Habs had ponies up a lot more and made your owner sweat a bit more.

The Habs really tried a dick move by front loading the contract offer thinking the Canes did not have the money
and wouldn't accept the offer.

Bergevin has proven time and time again that he really is nothing more than a mediocre GM at best. He got played by Aho's agent and fell for it.
