NFT: Circuit breaker tripping question

GMEN46 : 9/20/2019 2:47 pm
Let me start by saying I have absolutely no handy man skills so this may be a dumb question. Went into my bathroom this morning and turned on the light switch. The bulb blew out when I flicked the switch on. Figured I just needed to change the light bulb. I was in a rush so I forgot to switch the light bulb. Fast forward to later this morning my wife called not knowing the bulb was out and said the lights in the room next to bathroom were out and the bathroom light was out. She went and flicked the breaker back on. Is it normal for something like that to happen where a light blows out and it trips the circuit breaker or should I be concerned that there could be an underlying issue?
It can happen. But it

likely should not have happened. However, what was also on when the bulb burned out, other things working?(I presume by blew you mean it burned out.) What kind of bulb, was it? If there were other items on when the light blew, it could have momentarily caused the amperage to exceed the breaker's setting - I'm guessing 15 amps which is a standard household circuit.

In any event, if you replace the bulb and the breaker doesn't trip when you turn on the switch, it should be fine.

The breaker tripped because that line pulled over 15 amps. Breakers do degrade with usage and repeated trips. If it happens again, call an electrician.

common thing but it does happen, if it KEEPS happening it would warrant some investigation. Change the bulb, reset breaker and go from there. I would bet youll be fine.
Thanks

Refrigerator in the garage. Even happens in the middle of the night with nothing else on. Temporary solution is to plug the refrigerator into the second outlet of the overhead garage door opener. Ultimate solution is to call the electrician.

Something making contact in the box. If it doesn't trip again chalk it up to random malfunction. CB tripping is a good thing, it means it's doing its job.

As for the refrigerator in the gfc, fridge should never be plugged into a gfc circuit, and they can cause them to trip sometimes, but gfc outlets sometimes just go bad, and trip randomly because they become assholes. just replace it.

do go bad, find the bad one or the connection that is shorting.
