Mea Culpa's

Thegratefulhead : 9/23/2019 11:29 am
Thank you.

We have had some heated discussions. I took mental of everyone that owned up to it. Character, you have it. Makes it easier to accept heated discussion going further with you. I admire people willing to admit mistake.

Those of us that us told us we were stupid, that a QB change would do nothing. That Aaron Rodgers couldn't do anything if he was QB and took umbrage over the I told you so's. I see you too. That's really small character. The I told you so's are warranted with the certainty with which some of you spoke about things. Be a man and take your lumps.

Seems like the "a QB change would do nothing" was a thinly veiled

attempt to protect Manning at all costs.
It was always a thinly veiled excuse

As if the offense scoring 10 points a game and failing left and right on 3rd down was somehow excusable because the defense was so bad.

+1, some of the comments made after Jones didnt make a play or sacked were so stupid
Not going to pile on

But yeah.

What was their motivation?

Loyalty to a Giants hero.

Very acceptable.

Just own it is all I am saying.

Here's Another Thought...

Maybe YOU should be a man and not start another BS, "I told you so" thread.

It's in poor taste no matter who starts it or what camp you're in.
I couldn't be happier

to have been wrong on draft night. Still didn't agree with the Barkley pick at 2 (and never will philosophically believe in drafting a RB that high) but Gettleman deserves a huge amount of praise for drafting DJ at 6. He knew he was going to get crushed by the entire world for the pick but stuck to his belief and so far he seems to be the smartest man in the room.
How about name some names? Am I one that should be issuing

a mea culpa? Because I think the perception of what I've posted over the past year and the reality of what I've posted don't necessarily match.

I see you. When you tell people they are stupid and don't understand football for even suggesting we should try someone else, you need to be man enough to understand the people you spoke to in that manner are going to hold you accountable.
I don't think it's possible for anyone
Dnew15 : 9/23/2019 11:50 am : link
to be definitively right or wrong about DJ after one game.

As far as I'm concerned - no one owes anyone anything for expressing their opinion about how to run a football team.

It's the beauty of sport.

Nope. I think I have posted enough defending you against people that have twisted your words and positions.
No mea culpa from me

I've said DJ8 reminds me of Mo Rivera and he's a big brained mobile Tom Brady for a while XD
I appreciate that.

I'm not, and wasn't, nearly as dug in on Eli Manning as some people believe. I loved the Jones pick from day one.
Doesn't

The "one game theory" apply to this. Perhaps issuing a mea culpa is a bit premature.

We tend to come to conclusions that are still unfolding.
I said this on another thread right before Jones
jvm52106 : 9/23/2019 11:55 am : link
was named the new starter. This team is young, most of the guys don't ahve a feeling or sense of Manning's post season heroics and only know him as the QB of Giants team that hasn't won anything in a LONG time.

When you get the feeling you can't win, or that one mistake by you (defense wise) could mean the game is over because your offense probably won't be able to help, it wears you down.

The change alone adds a spark. The ability to move and pick up first downs and not see your offense hang its head because it just didn't do anything again, is a huge lift. This game has way more emotion attached to wins and losses than pretty much any other sport.

This is Jones's team now.

No you don't "see me". I never told anyone they were stupid, that they didn't know football or anything of the sort. And I've wanted Eli replaced for the last 2 years.

My post was directed at ALL BBIers who feel the need to start I told you so threads. To use your words... It shows "really small character".
It's amazing how many people missed this...

I've been preaching this message for awhile now.

It's like there's a bunch of people on here that have never played sports or been a part of a team.
Call me crazy but....
EricJ : 9/23/2019 11:59 am : link
I root for the Giants and for the team to win. I really do not care whose names are on the back of the jersey... as long as they deliver.

I really never understood how some people get so emotionally attached to specific players.
Loyalty and old age can play tricks
5BowlsSoon : 9/23/2019 12:01 pm : link
Some older fans who are loyal and appreciative for the two SBs just can’t admit when a guy has become obsolete. We all want old Rocky to get up and keep swinging hoping for another victory. I think many who didn’t want change were in that thinking, plus they were probably listening to all the talking heads tell us no one from Duke can be that good.
I get where your coming from
Dnew15 : 9/23/2019 12:01 pm : link
team first - it's the team that wins and loses, so on and so forth.

But it was easy to get attached to a guy like Eli that did the unthinkable multiple times and was such a class act in doing it.

It's the individuals that make the team and I can't help but get attached to certain ones...ones like Eli.
Are these "I told you so" back patting and

"mea culpa/I am wrong" threads going to become the norm for BBI?
Draft Day Hystrionics
Angus : 9/23/2019 12:03 pm : link
I was apoplectic on draft day. I was so sure that Haskins was the right pick. The way he hit receivers in stride, delivered the ball quickly from decision to catch,....

I was so worried that the reason the Giants did not pick him is that they did not want a black quarterback.

Mea Culpa. I am relieved and happy, Daniel Jones looks like he has a chance to be pretty good. I hope he stays healthy and continues to improve.

Hold me accountable. To this.

Daniel Jones is the real deal.

It isn't an accident that the regular season has matched the preseason. So not one game.

He was pressured on insane number snaps.

He under enormous situational pressure to perform based on who he was replacing, the team drafted him and criticisms surrounding the pick.

He threw with accuracy, touch and timing.

Please hold me accountable. Tell me I told you so if wrong.

Daniel will be Rookie of the year.

This is Peyton Manning with wheels.
So based on

one awesome game, all must now bend the knee and state that the Giants would have been a winning club if Eli was put out of his misery , what three, five, seven, seasons ago?

I don't know about that one.

Jones looks like a baller, but let's see what happens. Maybe he is the second coming and it will be all MVP' S, Lombardi's and lollipops from here on out. That would be great.

Keep in mind the Giants won week three after an 0 - 2 start last year two. On the road, with a strong offensive performance. How did that season work out?

Missed chip shot yesterday and it's another defensive failure, how many of those have we seen? The young QB does give hope and the possibility to get better. I don't know if it guarantees this team will get where it wants to be or that it indicts Eli for half a decade of play.

I'm not big on "I told you".

Your opinion above isn't unreasonable, and I'm certainI not trying convince you of mine.

It was a great debut, a great sign, in the nfl I like to take my time coming to conclusions, I don't consider it a competition like a race. If your opinion doesn't happen, oh well, if mine is totally incorrect, oh well, a great instance to learn. Not taking personal responsibility for my thoughts, opinions, and actions tends to stagnate my thinking.

I like to be accountable for what I say. If I call someone stupid for their opinion, I expect to hear about it if I am wrong. I admit it. To me, that is the essence of becoming a man. Being accountable for your words and actions. It is understandable that people that behave poorly, insult people, then don't want to called out for their bullshit. Children do this. You don't want to hear "I told you so", then don't make absolute statements about people's intelligence for having a different opinion than you. You are whining about being told you were wrong, suck it up or don't have opinions in a public space.
I could barely understand what the fuck
Beezer : 9/23/2019 3:01 pm : link
the original post's point was.

It took reading more of the thread to realize you're just being cunty.

I love Eli and wanted him to start this season until it was time. I felt this was the right time. Glad it is headed in a + direction. If we (the Giants) are fortunate, Jones will remain healthy and get to play out this season, and we go from there with a guy who has some experience. THEN it'll have a chance to get exciting.

it’s not in great form
hassan : 9/23/2019 3:14 pm : link
but given the vitriol some of the rabid eli crowd directed at those of us who wanted the change, firmly warranted especially given what a big part of the discourse it was here. let’s face it if Jones continues its major debunking of manynof the rationalizations over past few years here.
I'm going to simplify the OP.
Thegratefulhead : 9/23/2019 3:34 pm : link
I have been reminded that people of limited capacity post here.

I admire people with the courage to admit they are wrong.

I think the people that bitch about being reminded of their bullshit when they fail to take ownership of it are cunts.

I get that bitches don't like that I pointed that out. Too fucking bad.
Come on now
USAF NYG Fan : 9/23/2019 3:47 pm : link
There was heat on both sides of that discussion. For the record, calling people stupid because they want to move on from Eli is of small character. In turn, claiming "I told you so's are warranted", also of small character.

Eli Manning is going to the HoF and HoF players seem rar for Giants players. Even more rare is going from 1 great QB to the another great QB which is what we hope and believe the Giants have just pulled off. Let's all be thankful it appears as though we will not be going through another Brown, Graham, and Kanell era.

there was plenty of vitriol both ways
hassan : 9/23/2019 6:20 pm : link
but nowhere near the bashing personally the Eli skeptics faced (save maybe dep and britt). i think the point is people should be able to have a point of view and other people can differ with it without such condescension.
