behind keeping only 2 RB on the roster to start the season. Yes, the 3rd RB may be primarily a special teams player but at least competent as a RB. This is embarrassing.
is a RB/Fback who could have been considered an adequate 3rd RB at cutdown time. There were plenty of TEs who could slide over to fill his FB role.
The Giants and plenty of other teams carry 3 QBs. The breaks just fell the wrong way.
With an aging Eli and Dan's tendency to run headfirst for a 1st down it would not be inconceivable that the injury bug could hit the QBs instead of LBs and RBs.
Then one could say, why didn't we keep Tanney instead of a 3rd RB when Penny could easily take over as the 3rd runner.
I suggested that last week. It's been some years since he played RB, but he is an athlete first. I'm sure he would be just as productive with a limited number of plays to learn. At the very least, it would provide relief for Penny and add a wildcard for the defense to account for.
hasn't Orleans Darkwa been brought in? He was idle last year with an Achilles, but from all indications, he is healthy and waiting to be signed.
no one has signed him. What does that tell you?
That no other team is starting their 3rd string RB with a PS scrub backing them up? I think we are in a unique shitty situation. Darkwa was the leading rusher for the Giants in 2017 when we had a shittier oline. I think he would be able to manage to hit a few holes while SB was on the mend.
Regardless, it is a moot point as the window while SB was out is coming to a close. SB won't play this Thursday, but he will likely suit up against Arizona.
The only thing that matters the rest of this year is the development of Jones and the young defensive players.
If the coaching staff and front office feel that Tanney is helping Jones to develop into a better QB, and that not having Tanney would be a detriment to Jones' development, then I'm all for it.
It was pretty relevant to have a RB available on the practice squad who already was familiar with the playbook, who didn't come at the cost of a FA, and who can be a stopgap player for probably one game.
Once they were down to 2 healthy running backs, it was the easiest move to make.

Of course it was the easiest move to make, and given the short week, it was pretty obvious that they were going to do exactly that.
Judging by your registration date, I'll just assume you haven't been here long enough to realize that it's never a sure thing to assume that everyone around here knows that practice squad players have to actually be signed to the roster in order to play in a game.
really questioning Shurmur right now .

Barkley hasn't played in two weeks ..
RB needs to know where the hole is planned and wing it .

I thought it was silly before the benefit of hindsight.

In hindsight it seems silly we cut him

That is sadly true.

And unless they sign him to the active roster, that's pretty much irrelevant.
Pretty much where we are at. Ho-Lee-Chit.
What an incredible clusterfuck, Hilliman and Penny are our only RBs.

All signs are pointing to a complete disaster. Friigin Shemur and Tanny.

I guess the "unless" part wasn't clear?
