we couldn't resign him. He was hurt and couldn't play at the end of preseason. If they kept him everyone would of screamed its a wasted roster spot. Perkins beat him out but was released when we had no WRs. Tanney is an important piece of the puzzle with the development of D. Jones. Everyone is saying he should just be made a coach but he still wants to play. If you cut him he will sign somewhere else. Lauletta wan't that much better. If hge was, he wouldn't be stuck on a practice squad. This year is about Jones's development and Tanney is a big part of that.

There is no way anyone signs Tanney if we cut him for a week or two.
I don't really care that much about Paul Perkins, but the handling of the RB depth with the roster really hasn't made sense. We shouldn't be in this position - we're getting caught with our tails between our legs here.
RE: I like Shurmur's demeanor but I'm starting to wonder if Â
he's the right head coach.
He has got to win more than a few games this season.
His offense is miles ahead of what we've had under McAdoo.
Even last year with Eli, they fielded a competent offense. Sure, having Saquon Barkley helped, but you can see the productivity in the passing game and in the scoring that the team produced at a higher level. The problem last year and this year is related to personnel, period. We have a rookie QB now, and some level of rookie mistakes are expected. But they have a chance now. The game on Sunday was lost on the run from the 2 yard line that resulted in a Vikings safety. And the pass catchers didn't catch the ball. This underlies the deficiency in offensive playmakers as well as adequate blocking. Solder has struggled, Remmers is an improvement but both of those positions need to be addressed in the next two offseasons.

Yeah, it was almost as if they believed Barkley would just not miss any time like he did last year

Very true. It's an indictment of the front office. And, as others have said, raises even more questions why we are carrying 3 QBs...

I mean come on...we're indicting the front office over the 3rd string RB?
locals believe they know more about the team make up than the team itself.
You do not keep extraneous players in case someone gets hurt. Kind of what the PS is for. How can you know who will get hurt? They just had a couple year period where DBs were dropping like flies.
Rod Smith did nothing extraordinary in camp. Perkins was a lesser Gallman clone.
Could any of you see Barkley being hurt and then Gallman getting dinged up the next week? The season is not foolproof.
Just because he is a good voice in the QB room. He won't be snatched up if he's cut. Let him go and when he clears waivers he can be a special assistant coach and then re-signed if one of our QB's get hurt. Easy peasy.

I can never recall a team keeping only two halfbacks to start the season. Can you?
He had 1 good preseason game and people are upset that we cut him. He was 3rd string at best. If you have to rely on a 3rd stringer at any position you are in trouble.
by the way, Perkins has 0 carries on the Lions so far.

For signing a [b]fifth[/i] TE!
For signing a fifth TE!
There, that looks nicer!

He's a good Offensive Coordinator.
