Bears and Jags, to me, make sense more than the others. In PIT he'd just be a bridge to Ben coming back from injury, or an early draft pick. MIN would have to be totally throwing Cousins in the trash to bring in Eli. BUF doesn't make sense at all...he'd be in the same position as here.
But with Allen's playing style and the amount of hits he takes...they may want a stronger security blanket should Allen go down. Because the rest of that roster is REALLY good
Vikings would make the most sense. Bills I could see because their QB has struggled with injuries. Bears also with a great defense.
I would think any team would want him for one reason...they believe their team will be in the playoffs and why not have someone who is made some magic before.
They are in the playoff hunt
Their QB is very physical and has already sustained a concussion
Their defense is good enough to win without the QB needing to make plays.
The Carolina connection with McDermott/Gettleman
Minshew has played really well and the fans have gone nuts over him.
That is how you know its bullshit. This guy can't even make up a credible rumor. Foles is back in two weeks and Minshew has played well. What the hell do they need Eli for?

But the "beauty" of spreading a rumor like this is that even if the Giants denied it, some people would still think they had not choice BUT to deny it.
So this guy gets a ton of clicks and at least for the short term, nobody can prove him wrong.
not true, but the Bears make the most sense given their defense. The Bills are another possibility for the reasons Sy notes. Allen takes a lot of hits. I don't see the Steelers. They are not a playoff team, and just traded their first round pick next year.
My guess is that Eli would only even consider waving his no trade clause to go to a team that had a decent chance of making the playoffs.
Makes sense and if Eli truly wants to play then I think
he would accept a trade deal .If the Giants
could get like a 5th round pick maybe I have no idea
but we have Tanney and playoffs are out of the question
at this point . If a deal is to be had take it .

If you're not sold on the Ravens (I'm not yet), and the Steelers would have beat them last Sunday if not for a horrible roughing the passer call, the AFC North is a poor division right now. And aside from the Bengals, everyone still has a reasonable chance. So the Steelers are far from out of it...

The division is poor, especially after the Browns were taken to the woodshed by the 49ers on Monday night. But I still think Baltimore wins that division.
Cant say whether what he is saying has any legs or not...who knows...but I am familiar with Sileo. He is an ex-Miami Hurricane DL from back in the day. He used to host a morning radio show when I live in FL 10-15 years ago. Absolutely could not stand that guy. Havent missed him for a second, or even thought about him at all until seeing this topic. Not even sure where he is now. Basically my impression of him was a blowhard, throw shit against the wall type, yell louder than the next guy. Which, thinking about the current sports media landscape, means im sure he is doing quite well for himself somewhere...fits right in!
How does that affect our cap with regards to his salary - does a pro-rated portion of his base salary for the next eleven games come off our books right away?

The Ravens are a strange team this year. Who would have guessed their achilles heel is their D, which is in the bottom third for PPG allowed. Their secondary stinks right now...
I don’t see how the Jaguars would have any interest. Â
Minshew has thrown 9 TDS and 1INT with a 7.8 YPA and he’s five games into his pro career. Simply amazing for a low round rookie. If I were the Jags, I wouldn’t even reinsert Foles into the lineup. They may have their future QB right there.
And the guy is a social phenomenon. The team has really lucked out.

most of those teams make no sense. Maybe Bears and Steelers given injuries, but the rest? no way
My thoughts as well. They both make a lot of sense. I’d actually take Eli over a healthy Trubisky this year and that’s a win now team.
But it would take Eli a few weeks to learn the playbook and it’s just really hard to make that transition mid season. That’s even if he wanted to. I just don’t see it.
what team is better with Eli playing QB. Maybe the Steelers if Rudolph is missing significant time? I suppose if some team feels they need a better backup, but I don't see a lot to be gained trading for a 2nd string QB. Not to mention it revives the Eli QB controversy for the new team. He's just as useful as the backup on the Giants if god forbid Jones was injured.
But it is going to be hysterical when the Bears cost themselves even a shot at a title because of their QB situation. Chase Daniel is not the answer - he wasn't last year, either - and that 2018 game against the Giants where he failed to execute even the simplest of plays (catching snaps, handoffs, etc.) cost the Bears the 2 seed and a bye in the POs.
If I were the Bears, I'd get on the phone ASAP and see what they want for Eli.
in year 2, Trubisky made the pro bowl on one of the better teams in the NFC. I'm not sold on him, but he kept surprising me last year when I expected him to fail. I don't the Bears will give up on him so soon. If somehow Eli does get traded to the Bears, he'll be there to just until Trubisky is healthy unless he somehow has an amazing run
I get there are posters here that use any possible rumor of a trade for Eli, as an opportunity to degrade the guy.
But Eli on the Bears makes a ton of sense, and it is not ridiculous to prefer Eli on a contender, over Trubisky,
I wanted to move on from Eli, but some of his critics here are hard to take.
Serious question; is Trubisky being given up on already?
He looks awful, hasn’t improved at all, very inconsistent. If I was the Bears and I had the defense they had, I would seriously be looking at finding a solution to get through the playoffs knowing that team is built around the defense and they aren’t going to keep that unit at the top forever.
Has a different value of Eli's worth at this point in his career than the rest of the known world. He is not going anywhere to prove you were correct about him not being finished. Let him spend the rest of the year teaching Jones. I think that was the deal DG made with Eli. They had a talk, remember? I speculate that Eli was told they would likely draft a QB and that he would be the starter and would keep that job if he won. He didn't. He looks like he might even be enjoying his new role. To me, Eli is the type of person that get a lot of enjoyment in helping people that are receptive to advice. I think he is staying to help. He is Giant blue all the way through.
If there's any truth to the rumor it's teams putting out a feeler for down the road if:
a) the team is in the playoff hunt
b) the team's starting QB goes down
Like Gettleman putting out a feeler to Steve Keim in April just in case Jones was off the board before the Giants had a chance to select him.
Not to mention Eli isn't a fit for Nagys offense at all. Â
If Tom Brady had a season ending injury and the Giants got a call from Bill Belichick.
Picture this: Tomorrow night Tom Brady tears his ACL on their first possession. Stidham comes in but plays poorly (sacks, fumbles, pick six). He's just not ready. By the time they replace him with Kessler, the Giants already have a double digit lead and then to add injury to injury, Kessler gets concussed. The following day, Gettleman gets a call from Belichick. By Saturday Eli is packing up his things for the drive up to Foxborough.
Cut to: February 2020. Giants vs Patriots in the Super Bowl. Jones vs Eli!
Just accept that NYG got their value (and then some) but Eli's time in the league as a useful QB has long expired. That goes for NYG or any other team. The Eli chapter is complete.

Well, your "down the road" is only 20 days away. In 20 days, there are still lots of teams in the playoff hunt. After the trade deadline, the only way for Eli to join a new team this season would be for the Giants to release him. The problem with that scenario is that all players after the trade deadline have to pass through waivers. There is no guarantee that a team with playoff prospects is in line to put in a waiver claim. Also, if Eli goes unclaimed, then he can still be paid his full salary as termination pay so there is no cap savings for the Giants.
from google seems like he's a mix of sports talk and shock jock. Those guys almost never have any inside info like this.
Pretty sure he is a former Hurricane player. He was a radio personality in Miami or Orlando for a while, but has bounced around quite a bit. Never thought of him as a breaker of news.
no team in the NFL wants him. Eli might be one of the bottom tier back ups at this point
And I do not buy that Eli is such a huge influence on Jones. Not for 23 million dollars he is not
Such a smart idea. Let's cut him because....? We just want to ditch the most valuable backup we have right now, who is a vet that can help in the meeting room and in practice and on the sidelines, and can come in if needed and....
All so we can just create 13 million in dead cap? Essentially just burn that up in flames. Yeah, let's cut him.

That's a hot take. Giants would still be on the hook for full cap hit. Doesn't it make sense that if you are still having to account for his cap hit that the Giants at least get some benefit of his services?
$17M in 2019 cash earnings. The full cap hit is $23M. The only way for the Giants to lessen the cap hit besides extending him is to trade him where the remaining unpaid salary is credited on the Giants cap. If Eli was traded on Friday, he would be owed $7,187,500. Each week Eli is paid $718,750. If Eli is traded at the deadline, he would have $5,750,000 in unpaid salary which the Giants would receive a cap credit for.
Unless Eli is demanding a trade, I don't see Mara/DG willing to trade a franchise legend for what amounts to a $6M cap savings.
I'm thankful for all Eli did to help the Giants win 2 SB's. Its a shame the organization failed him with its mostly poor decisions on drafting/personnel after 2011. I think he's truly upset about being benched, more than we will ever know. But, I also think he truly has class and is trying to help Jones.
I don't know what to think about this rumor. I don't think the source is credible. So, I don't think there have been any real offers acceptable to the Giants and Eli, who has veto power over any trades, yet. Will it happen, I think its unlikely.
I don't think he has anything else to prove though. He should hang them up. have his number retired and await his induction into the HOF.
if it happens, that 11/24 game would get ratings equal to the super bowl

Eli is as good, if not better IMO, as even a healthy Trubiski.
He doesn't have to uproot his family. The Bears are locked and loaded for a run.
Just consider it a two-three month business trip. Retire a Giant at the end of the season either way, but get to play on his way out.
Agreed. Good OL and they could support an immobile, pocket QB...

Very good point. I've seen them in the bottom 20% of pass protection thus far in 2019. And just as low in the run-blocking department.
