I think the Pats offense is vulnerable this week ...

Jim from Katonah : 10/9/2019 12:44 pm
Yes, I know, thatís probably crazy, considering how porous our defense looked last week. But the Pats have taken major injury hits to their core guys. FB Develin, C Andrews, LT Wynn, all to IR. Dorsett and Burkhead are likely out. Gordon is nursing a knee injury. They are starting Marshall frickiní Newhouse at LT and practice squadder Matt LaCosse at TE. [Note: there would be angry mobs with pitchforks outside DGís door if we were starting Newhouse this week].

The Pats are the best-coached team, have the great Brady at QB, and that madman Edelman running 500mph on crossing routes ... but am I delusional to think we SHOULD be able scheme something ó anything ó with our largely healthy defense to take advantage of their injury-riddled OL and a 42 year old QB that canít pressure a defense with his legs? Or at least get a few good hits on him?

(Iím only venting all this with you gentleman to spare my son a rant or two tomorrow night).
Yes, you are delusional (in my opinion)

our current LBs trying to cover the Pats quick passing game is an actual nightmare
People said the same thing about MN last week.

How'd that turn out? They're going to gash us.

Yeah, youíre prob right PP.
I don't think the game
ryanmkeane : 10/9/2019 12:48 pm : link
will be the blowout everyone is expecting, these Thursday night games are usually brutal. That being said, it will take a pretty amazing effort from Jones to win, and that's IF our defense can make a few stops. My guess is 31-23

Please be nice to your son tomorrow, its not his fault (its Bettchers), ha ha.
It's a shame their Defense won't be.

Marshall Newhouse???!!!!

Maybe track down Jay Alford, whenever he is, for at least one good, satisfying hit?

I feel like the crazy guy from Network at this point. ďMad as hell and not gonna take it anymoreĒ lol!!
I will add LaCosse to my fantasy team.

He will have a Gronk- type game.

I think this is the best point. These Thursday night games tend to bring out the mediocre in most teams. The turn around is just to quick for a team to prepare and look sharp.

I think are only chance on D is to press their receivers and go after Brady. We may get lucky and create some turnovers.

Who cares if we lose 48-3 or 27-20, let's go down swinging...

I've found Bettcher's defense goes very nicely with Woodford Reserve Bourbon. Its not bad, and I don't want to waste my good stuff on our D.
Well if what your OP states is true
Dinger : 10/9/2019 12:58 pm : link
Then this would be a good indication if Bettcher is a keeper or just a wanna be. I have a feeling its the later anyway, but we don't have the talent at LB even when fully healthy. I also think the Pats coaching staff will be able to out scheme their Offense to blow by our DBs. We have a decent front 3 whom the coaches havent messed up yet but I just don't think we can rely on them to stop the Pats. Too much talent and experience at QB and just better coached.

Lately Iíve been enjoying hot apple cider loaded with whiskey ... and a pinch of cayenne pepper. Try it, itís delicious.

Seriously, if Brady sits behind THIS line (Dante Scarnecchia or not), and we donít press and we donít collapse the pocket with Golden, Hill, DT, Dex, X, well ....

I donít even know how to finish the sentence.

That actually sounds great, the hot cider and whiskey with a pinch of cayenne. Might give that a go tomorrow, thanks!

There's a big difference between losing by 1 TD and 7. The 48-3 loss isn't considered "going down swinging". The Pats D has been off to a great start, say what you want to about the opponents but the Giants aren't putting up 20+ points on a short week
If the Pats offense is vulnerable
Nine-Tails : 10/9/2019 1:07 pm : link
Then our offense is completely fucked. And we have to go against an elite defense while the Pats I the other hand get our poor defense

One last thing before I pull out my Gerrit Cole voodoo doll and get to work.

Marshall. NEWHOUSE!!!!!!!!

Ok, much better.

Very true. Probably a sad commentary that at this point, Iíd settle for a few solid hits on Brady.

Bring it home Big Dex!

dlauster : 10/9/2019 1:16 pm : link
They can win by scoring 11 points. We could only muster 10 vs. Minnesota, and that was with Shep and Engram.
I think

they look at the Giants porous D (particularity over the middle), and they must be salivating.

Look at what dak, Allen & Winston did.

We are up shits creek without a paddle with Brady.
On the bright side
GiantEgo : 10/9/2019 2:22 pm : link
If they can hold them to around 300 yards total it would represent a huge improvement!

Now youíre picking on my hobbies?

Anyway, best of luck to all of us on Thursday night. Letís at least eat and drink like kings and hopefully watch TB work over the Astros.
It s hard to be competitive

When opposing offenses score on on 3,4 and sometimes 6 consecutive drives
Their defense
AcesUp : 10/9/2019 4:17 pm : link
has been doing the heavy lifting for about a year now. We're basically playing a better version of the team that just destroyed us. Just even more shorthanded, on the road and with shorter rest.
NE averages 279 passing yards/game (top 6)
BH28 : 10/9/2019 4:29 pm : link
Our D generously yields 279 passing yards/game (bottom 5).

It's a perfect match-up for nothing to change!
I think they are vulnerable too
santacruzom : 10/9/2019 4:47 pm : link
They'll probably have so many opportunities to sprint long distances that someone is bound to pull a hamstring.

Does this apply to you? It's a simple question, a simple answer will do.

Thanks for the answer. I would say that quote is intended for all people. As people we certainly exercise thinking, but is it in an honest way? Therefore I believe the phrase "I don't know" is undervalued and certainly underused.

I completely agree with you. That's why with regards to the Giants and their performance, it's good to refer back to the math that tells us how they are performing. The stories the numbers tell don't leave much room for interpretation, as they are very ugly.

Terps, certainly in regards to the giants the results have been ugly. As for the math, absolutely can be used as evidence to support our theories, although there is context within numbers that could be valuable, and worth considering.

I of course agree with the reasonable/doomsday outlook on this game. But, can anyone explain to me why we canít exploit Marshall Newhouse? Weíve spent a ton of resources ó Golden, Hill, Tomlinson, Dex, X ó on the DL ... is it that Brady unloads the ball so quickly? And if so, why canít we play tight, sell out press coverage to give our DL an extra beat?

I mean, the guy is a journeyman, six, seven teams ... are we completely unable to exploit that and get some shots in on Brady?

Iím getting myself exasperated again. Serenity now.

Brady seems to get rid of the ball in less than 2 seconds. Betcher will have our DBs 10 yards off to facilitate this
