"The Giants are in the eighth year of their 20-year rebuilding program."

I laughed.
Things couldn't be worse everything points

to a blowout loss being undermanned is an understatement
hope for the best prepare for the worse . I expect this
defense to get gashed early and often and the game will
be over before halftime .
I would consider moving Peppers to FS and benching Bethea
Dalvin Tomlinson is not and edge rusher most over rated
player on the team . I would consider moving him and Jenkins
get what you can for them both before the deadline .
I think you're analysis is
RollBlue : 10/9/2019 1:56 pm : link
spot on for the most part. I still think the biggest issue is coaching. Until they get the right head coach, it will be hard to complete for championships. I do think that a good pass rusher will go a long ways to improving the defense. In regards to the OL, I thought in the pre-season many were overrating this group. However, I do think they can win with these guys if not ravaged by injury, and they field a slightly above average defense. The Colts didn't beat KC and SF hasn't looked great due to their O-Lines, it's been their defense.
In hindsight it's clear
Coach Red Beaulieu : 10/9/2019 2:06 pm : link
Herm would make a great college HC. Would make a great recruiter, comes across as sincere, unlike douchy Harbaugh.
ugh..
Dnew15 : 10/9/2019 2:07 pm : link
well that was depressing.
expansion team
Thegratefulhead : 10/9/2019 2:15 pm : link
Play like the Jim Zorn Seahawks. Half back passes, fake punts ect. Go crazy. Hopefully the weather will be sloppy. Send the house at Brady. He will pick them apart anyway, might as well hit him... A LOT.
I am not as doom and gloom
jvm52106 : 10/9/2019 2:33 pm : link
as that write up but, for this game it will most likely be ugly. The one thing I agree with is the whole have fun and do something different. You mask your short comings and attack the other team in a way they do not expect.

To me that would mean this:

1) Go to a 2 TE set with 1 TE being an extra Olinemen. Play Penny as the HB right out of the gate. The Giants should look to go jumbo football and try to push the Pats Defense back some.

2) Play action passes out of the jumbo set, with Slayton attacking deep. Get the Pats to have to consider the deep ball, even in jumbo formation.

3) Cody Core should get time at Wide Out and throw up some jump balls to him. He has really good size for WR and we might as well find out what we have with him.

4) In more obvious passing downs use Golden Tate in the backfield for quick swing passes. Yes, you lose the blocker aspect but if the line pinches in stopping the middle rush and the ball leaves Jones's hand quickly then the outside guys will not get there fast enough.

5) Defensively we allow our guys to man up in the secondary and bring heat on Brady when we can. Their Oline is the weakest it has been in a long time and we might was well take our chances there.

Overall the game on paper says blowout. Weather and injury can change the game complexion and the Giants have to play aggressively no matter what. If you are going to lose then lose by being aggressive. Just letting a team carve you up for 12, 17, 10, 8, 20, 11 yards a play just being "conservative" is stupid. That is basically giving up without waving the white flag.

Daniel Jones coming out of this healthy is the only real concern here. He cannot take all these shots game after game. David Carr did that and his rookie year looked so promising and within no time he was completely shell shocked and left as nothing more than a backup suited to MOp Up duties.
I’m just sick and tired
Steve L : 10/9/2019 2:42 pm : link
Of meaningless games in October. I don’t need a Super Bowl run, though it’d be nice, just be in contention. I’ve been a fan for 45 years and I’m truly disgusted with this team and ownership.
I think that the Vikes
Dnew15 : 10/9/2019 2:48 pm : link
have a better defense than the Pats.

I know the stats don't agree with me - but talent wise - I think the Vikes are better.
I could have saved Sy time

the previews.
Great
AcidTest : 10/9/2019 3:15 pm : link
preview. A victory for the Giants is Jones finishing the game healthy. That's about all we can hope to achieve. I'd play 3 WRs, 6 OL, and a RB (probably Penny) as a base formation to try and protect Jones. I'd also use some planned rollouts.

On defense, I'd play five or six DB as much as possible.

.

Except the Pats have let up nine points a game so far...
some of the competition hasn't been good, but still.
I expect a blowout against the Pats. And as u said Eric I hope Penny
Blue21 : 10/9/2019 3:40 pm : link
gets the bulk of the carries. If we could run the ball we could help keep the score down but against this defense I doubt that will happen. Pats Oline is banged up. If the Giants can't get a pass rush on these guys or limit the runs then this will really indicate how inept they are are defensively. Brady gets the ball off quick so that obviously makes it difficult but the D needs to show something positive. And most of all please please please don't let Daniel Jones get hurt.
So is Baker just having trouble with the scheme
Dinger : 10/9/2019 4:16 pm : link
is he a square peg in a round hole or is he a 1st round miss(I know, too early to judge but if anyone has seen improvement in his play or flashes of his potential please point it out)? I mean missing on one of 3 1st round picks happens. I was really hoping in the offseason that the attention paid to our secondary would offset ignoring of the pass rush.
It just sank in that the current 16.5 point spread is the largest
Dinger : 10/9/2019 4:35 pm : link
for a thursday night game and that as long as it remains above 15.5 it will be the largest. This is a sure indication that the Giants will lose by no more than 14 points. The Giants have upset 'history' almost everytime they've played the Patriots in recent memory. So there you go......
But can you imagine
Rocky T 71 : 10/9/2019 4:41 pm : link
The shock and disbelief within the sports world if somehow, some way, we are able to pull off an upset tomorrow night? Especially considering the history between these two teams, as we well know the Giants have been the Patriots krytonite.

Yeah, I know the chances of that happening are infinitesimal, more so considering our injuries, but it would be so awesome it's fun just to think about.

Ok, that was great, back to reality now. Let's just hope that no one gets hurt.
On any given Sunday . . .

The only way the Giants have a shot
Matt in SGS : 10/9/2019 5:08 pm : link
is if the Patriots turn the ball over 4 or 5 times, get a bunch of penalties and get out of rhythm. Keep the score closer and Giants take a shot to win late. Basically, if these teams played 100 times, the Giants might have a scenario that they can in 1, maybe 2 of them.

But anything less than one of the worst played games in the Belichick/Brady era, if not the worst one, this game is not going to be fun.
This is a great line

Nail on the head.

Be patient!

Kirk Cousins didn't turn the ball over against this defense. You think Tom Brady will?
This is another tremendous defense.
mittenedman : 10/9/2019 5:52 pm : link
After Thursday, the Giants will have played 3 of the best defenses in the league in DAL, MIN & NE.

Many Pats followers feel this is the best D they've had.
I don’t think team can/ should experiment.

Every game means something for this staff with concerns growing. Better to shoot for a moral victory. Something, anything you can build on.
with this weather - anything can happen
stoneman : 10/9/2019 7:14 pm : link
both offenses are going to be limited, very limited. It is really windy here and supposed to be worse tomorrow night. If we see alot of roll outs and QB runs, the Gs will at least be competitive throughout the night.

Weather forecast I saw this PM said 100% chance of rain and 20 mph winds tomorrow.

Taking the points and the Under might be good bets for those so inclined.

And the Bills, their defense is playing really well this season. (Not sure where they’re ranked.)
Maybe trade Jenkins and Tomlinson
mrvax : 10/10/2019 2:41 am : link
for the best edge rusher they can get. He won't be top level but maybe another young guy like Lo Cart.

I suppose I'll watch and assume the game is a loss. I'll look for guys where I can say, "Good- he stays for 2020".
This game will be much closer than people think
Tuckrule : 10/10/2019 6:08 am : link
Pats have not played a mobile qb this season which is always an X factor. Jones legs can keep this close. Also, our pass rush, for the all the crap they get have been productive. The interior of the pats line isn’t very strong especially right guard. A huge tell is the Vegas line. Too many people on the pats in this game makes me take the giants at +17.5. I think they keep this thing under 14.

Huh? Josh Allen is pretty mobile and wound up cleaning the cobwebs from his noggin.
Eric, you forgot one.....
ZogZerg : 10/10/2019 7:38 am : link
Bill Belichick in undefeated playing rookie QBs at home.
Like I’ve been saying
The_Boss : 10/10/2019 8:08 am : link
The NYG are the exception to the norm: they are a true 5 year rebuild in the NFL. Holes are prevalent all over the roster. Expecting this FO to address and fix it all by next season is wishful thinking at best. Finishing inside the top 10 again sucks, but this roster needs more high end talent. 2020, I’d be happy with 8-8. Maybe we think playoffs in 2021?
winds are currently 23 mph, gusting to 32 mph
stoneman : 10/10/2019 8:09 am : link
staying steady for tonight and gusting to 29 mph after 8pm. Not sure if the Gs can go toe to toe with their respective run games. Jones could be the X factor :)

Need to give him the ability to run when he sees light.
I doubt this team scores at all.
FStubbs : 10/10/2019 11:31 am : link
The Pats will play sloppy but their defense is the best Jones will see for quite awhile, and definitely better than Minnesota's. I don't see how we score at all.

If you trade Tomlinson, you open up another hole.
I'm not sure I have the stomach...

Tomlinson move the the primary backup interior DL to Lawrence and Hill.

Lawrence should be the 1, Hill the 3 and Tomlinson the backup. He is forcing the other 2 to play out of position. Get a true 5T. If you look at the type of player that's supposed to be playing the 5 - Calais Campbell is the prototype. The Giants currently have Hill there, who doesn't fit.

It is hard to believe they aren't using Lawrence at NT.
They pull their pants on one leg at a time
