improve on the original or even make her own version fly has never been clear to me. Having her voice as Virgil Cain is completely unconvincing. There must be tons of other bad ones, but I can't think of them now.
It's one of my favorite songs from the Springsteen catalog, but it makes me ill when I hear Mann's version...
Funny. I consider that to be just about the best reworking of any song I ever heard. I'm a huge Bruce fan, but to me, Springsteen's original version sounds like a demo that he never figured out how to arrange (though I love the album - several songs of 'Greetings' have always hit me that way).
I will say the Mann version got played to death back in the day, but it's hooky as hell, sounded fantastic when it was fresh - unique use of the analog synths, I loved the creativity of the sections and how different they were from one another yet fit together beautifully - I always considered that to be a real masterpiece of production.
(who I am a fan of) covering LL Cool J Mama said Knock You Out. Just doesn't work.
They do a lot of covers.
I like their offspring cover (Gone Away) - could be a candidate for best cover. And they changed the meaning a little (still about loss, but I like the way 5FDP express it and the video is pretty poignant).
on so many levels....... BARF! Ataris - Boys of Summer - ( New Window )
Don Henley is a terrible person, but I do love the original version - it's unique, era-defining, sets a wonderful mood. Mike Campbell killed it with that one.
The cover to me sounds like someone trying to intentionally anger fans of the song.
Pat Boone's "In a Metal Mood: No More Mr. Nice Guy".

Entirely unnecessary cover made even more unnecessary by the fact they made what’s practically a bit for bit re-recording. Toto was schmaltzy when they were huge, but they were a tight band of studio pros. Their sins are forgiven but not Weezer’s.
+1
No flame needed. Terrible.
Now they’re version of Live and Let Die is another story....

I am a fan of both FFDP and the original LL Cool J version. Yup this cover was nothing less than terrible.
DANCIN IN THE STREET
These songs just didn't need to be re-made...plain & simple
Worst cover? Does singing the National Anthem count?
Roseanne
Fergie
Yuck. As a palette cleanser, watch this great version by a 7 year old:
Malea Emma
