contested pass plays vs our offense...

NewBlue : 10/10/2019 11:33 pm
always we get no separation against virtually any team we play......when our secondary is on the field....why would any offense run the ball?

We play some kind of loose cheesy zone that inevitably is picked apart.

They find gaping holes in our zone, we have corners playing too far off the ball, we don't display ball skills.

Is this a talent issue or a coaching problem?

The bigger problem with this defense

is the inability to tackle. How many big plays by the Patriots were after a missed tackle? That 4th down miss by Peppers was the point where it started slipping away. That tackle has to be made.

When the Patriots got their arms on someone they got them to the ground. The Giants simply can’t get guys on the ground when they should.

I'd say its a talent issue. Slayton is talented, but he's a rookie and was matched up vs Gilmore. The Giants 3 biggest playmakers were out of this game. Latimer/Ellison do not create any seperation and Jon Hilliman is not causing any safeties to come down into the box.

Why are DB's covering our receivers like glue, but when Bettchers crew goes out there, so many throws are uncontested.....talent or coaching?
Lack of Pass Rush

Peppers is a joke

I don't care how great an athlete he is - he sucks at the basic fundamentals of playing defense.

Our receivers are definitely lacking talent, especially without our top 3 weapons on the field.

On defense, the pass rush is pedestrian and the LB's/Bethea are liabilities in coverage. Also, first few weeks there was way too much soft zone which made 0 sense considering Jenkins/Baker are guys whose strength is man to man.

In my opinion, out of every player in the secondary, Peppers is the last guy that I would criticize. The last 3 games he has been really good. Him, Golden, and Lawrence have easily been the 3 best players on defense this year (not including Connelly)
Peppers has been really good? At what?

He can't cover and he can't tackle. Other than that, he's great!

It's nice that he made a hustle play to force a fumble last week, but that's about the extent of his positive contributions.
Comparing the Giants to the Patriots is
St. Jimmy : 10/11/2019 12:14 am : link
like comparing a Yugo to a Ferrari. During the broadcast, they showed a Patriots receiver thrusting the ball up into the air after the catch to not allow the DB to knock the ball out of his hands. Something like that is being taught in every drill for every position. Do you think that is going on under Shurmur?
Hell, I doubt Coughlin was approaching that level of coaching and he was a good coach.
