One of the lone bright spots was David Mayo. He's active, he can wrap up and finish a tackle and he has good sideline-to-sideline speed. He's probably nothing more than a stopgap, but I'll give the guy credit. He's no Stupar. This kid has game.
I was going to post something similar. At worst case, he’s above average depth.
Put it this way...I know that Mayo and Davis are different types of players, but I wouldn’t automatically assume that a healthy Tae Davis is an upgrade over Mayo.
Stupar just had one of the worst games I've seen from a Giants LB. He's looked pretty good. What the Giants really need to be doing this year is proactively trying to identify guys that can help them moving forward, even if it's just a potential role player and depth guy down the road. If Mayo can prove to be multiple year 3rd LB, with quality game experience that can be counted on in spot duty, that's a win from a roster construction standpoint.
...many plays where he was flying parallel to the line untouched.
THAT is why I wanted Lawrence at the 6 spot, it's why I loved Snacks, going back even Norman Hand - having dancing elephants in the middle of the line cures a multitude of ills on defense.
Somehow, Ogletree is playing worse than Mayo. Bummer - I was psyched when the Giants signed him. We got a lemon.

Carter does look great, BTW.
Ogletree will more than likely be released this offseason and he should be. He's been a big disappointment. The only ILB's I want to bring back for camp are Connelly, Mayo, and Tauaefa. The Giants need to add an ILB to start opposite Connelly. It's time to invest an early pick at the position.
Between injuries and other circumstances, Mayo hadn't really shown much more than special teams aptitude since DG drafted him. He looks like quality depth, which is pretty important in an attrition league.
Another Panther fifth-round pick to keep in mind is Corn Elder. I think he could trot onto the field today and cover the slot better than Grant Haley. Haley has made some nice plays around the line of scrimmage, though. I'm not sure Elder has that dimension to his game. Anyhow, the way Giant CBs go down, I expect to see Elder promoted before the year is out, even with Beal waiting in the wings.
has a knee injury we nee to hedge that bet .... Mayo did look good last night. But we need 2 more legit starter or players with TRUE starter potential not hopes and prayers...
But he also makes plays. Probably nothing more than a quality backup. But a good guy to have
12 tackles need to get the offense healthy ..
then maybe we can compete again .

And, he played very well.
Like some here, I'm SHOCKED that he didn't play a perfect game. After all, he was signed after the season started.
Wasn't it Stupar being blown up into the backfield on the punt block?
& yet he got blown up on the blocked punt that freaking hit him. Stupar blows. He shouldn't be on this damn team.
Agreed! Two young studs starting to come along
Was thinking the same thing. Our big body DL's are doing a pretty good job this year of clogging up the LOS.
Did the light bulb go off for Carter? Or was this just a game where both teams weren't at their best due to short rest and Carter had a surge?

He has nowhere else to go

Love his energy and very active against the run but a liability vs pass IMO
We're in Moses Regular territory here.
