This team have tons of injuries on offense and even though the defense has improved, there are still holes that need to be address. I am pretty sure our 2019 season is over and we will miss the playoffs. We will finish 3rd in our division, right ahead of the redskins. This team has been mediocre for 5 years and it take time to rebuild. I wanted to ask what is your opinion on the following questions:
What you think the final record will be this year?
Will James Bettcher be back as the defensive coordinator? Will Pat Shurmur be our head coach?
How far are we from being a superbowl contender? 1 to 2 year or longer?
Question 2: Will James Bettcher be back as the defensive coordinator? Will Pat Shurmur be our head coach? Abso-fucking-lutely on both counts. You don't fire your coaches mid-stream through a transitional year when there is obvious points of rapid improvement. This team is actually playing good football, with a good system, with a lot of young players making young player type of mistakes as well as just a roster that still has some talent deficiencies that is still a work in progress...and that's not even taken into consideration the last couple of games where the injuries have clearly played a part in the product on the field.
Question 3: How far are we from being a superbowl contender? 1 to 2 year or longer? Really can't answer that. If Daniel Jones is a savant, then we are 1 year away. If he progresses to a middle-tier franchise starter, then we are two years away if Gettleman continues to draft well. But there are a couple of obvious roster needs that can be addressed this offseason. If they do a great job of addressing those, and Daniel Jones improves from where he is at right now, then the Giants can contend in 2020. Realistically it will probably be 2021 before they really make noise.
Get the key guys back, defense is improving....
They have 4 very winnable games, so at minimum 6-10. Then 6 tough games, but not like last night tough.... splitting those would be great, so 9-7 is high mark, team feels like 8-8 right now.
If defense continues to improve....all coaches stay. No way, do they force Jones to start with new offense next year. Team plays hard for them....that is key factor to watch.
Super Bowl contenders means what exactly?
Making playoff? Next year. 3 players: FS, Stud MLB & Edge.
Being one of the best teams in conference? Depends on Jones development and 3 players: center, LT & RT.
Most feared team in NFL? 1986 good? Not sure these coaches ever get us there....no idea.
I think that with the cap money and another draft and more experience for our younger players, we make the playoffs next season.
The Giants are not going anywhere until they start consistently winning division games. DG is building a team to compete initially and hopefully out physical division teams.
I am not happy with the losing culture. We have four games left in the division. I think a win or at the very least a very competitive game with Dallas and at least a split with Philly should be the expectation. The staff is in two years and they have to show they can compete and win games here to be back imo.
Jones is a work in progress - if he continues on his early success, then the Giants have a shot. QB play is so important in this league that even a team with a QB and little else can get by.
God forbid Jones should regress and end up not amounting to much, the dumpster fire will continue unabated for a few more years.
Amazes me that someone can spend time on a Giants forum and say shit like this. The DL has been the bright spot on the entire team and really gives the entire defense something to work around for years to come. The DBs are growing up and the linebackers are very spotty but just about any 3-4 team in the league would swap for our DL right now
...not a fooking chance.
5 to 6 wins max, probably 5.
But it could go lower.
Bottom line 5-11.
ps Evan Engram = Aaron Hicks

Seven wins is not unrealistic. We have two wins. Next week vs. Cardinals ay home is a game we should win. Still have the Jets, Redskins and Dolphins on the schedule. I think we win more than 5. 8-8 is realistic. Nothing more.
I'm not as sold on Daniel Jones as others are on this site; I need to see a much larger body of work - and last night wasn't a good one for him, which isn't a surprise given the competition. But give him a true stud as a #1 WR, a new RT and Center, and now the offense will be in pretty good shape.
The defense has a loooooooong way to go though. I don't see that unit holding up throughout the 2019 season. Arizona, Miami, and Washington seem to be the only realistically winnable games for us this year.
Young team with a nice foundation. With that said, however, there’s still needs all over this roster.
Shurmur and Bettcher will be back IMO. Shurmur is good with developing QBs and Giants are not going to start over again next year with a new system. DJ needs at least another year of tutelage under Shurmur and Shurmur will be here. Bettcher, although I do not like how he calls the defense at times, will also be back to continue the growth of his defense in his system as well.
Really listening to this guy from draft night was like your drunk uncle at thanksgiving giving his football opinions
Shurmur definitely coming back. Bettcher is tougher to figure, but I wouldn't be opposed of a change here although not blaming him for bad players and young players...only confused players.
Superbowl contender...lets try and get a winning season first, ok?
