NE passes to RBs on 3rd down

Les in TO : 10/11/2019 8:38 am
The Giants D played a gritty hard game last night. One area where the Pats had success was death by a thousand cuts in short passes in perfect stride to RBs (13 times for 95 yards and seemingly countless first downs).it seems like over the years whether it was Faulk Vereen or White back there it has been a core piece of their third down game that stifles opponents.
A team has to be concerned

With deeper routes for those to work. Brady has always been extremely good at throwing the ball downfield regardless of his targets.
Given the state of the Giants LBers

I would have done the same thing.
It’s a matchup advantage

A RB who has near WR catching skill vs a LB who doesn’t have near CB defending skills. Barkley creates that same mismatch but not Hillman.
Why does it seem

that every team throws a screen pass for 20 or 30 yards against the Giants. When the Giants throw a screen pass it goes for 2 yards and a fumble.
^ another glaring example of how poorly

coached the Giants are on both sides of the ball.

seeing a lot of posts killing the giants tackling...it's fair to address it, but we should all recognize the Pats do this pretty much every week to every opponent. It's one of the key things they do better than everyone else that keeps them at the top of the league.
We

threw to Saquon a lot with success last year. It's all about matchups.

Ogletree, Mayo, and Stupar trying to cover a more elusive RB...not good for us. Add some shoddy tackling and it's easy pickings.

I'm more frustrated by how badly our D reacts to a screen. We have zero recognition. It seems to work every time. Maybe it's when you have to work so hard to get any pressure, you're more susceptible. Apparently last night we had 3 sacks, but on only 8 pressures.
